Battleship spoilers?
Warning: As the headline implies, there are potential and substantial spoilers below. When we first heard that Universal was making a movie based on the classic game Battleship, it led to some head-scratching. How did they figure out a way to transform random guesses and the insertion of plastic pegs into a compelling and family-friendly movie about naval combat? What was it that lured filmmaker Peter Berg (The Kingdom, The Rundown, Hancock), and made the studio confident enough to slot it... »

Paltrow's a Danish
Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman playing lovers, sounds intriguing right? Even better when Let The Right One In helmer Tomas Alfredson is behind it. Where it get possibly creepy though is having Kidman play a dude... Prosthetic-nose time again? It kinda Oscar-worked the last time... Gwyneth joins The Danish Girl, produced by Kidman herself through her Blossom Films shingle and based on the novel by David Ebershoff. The story concerns a relationship between the first post-operative... »

Cody Dictionary
There's a new phobic disorder rampaging Hollywood these last few years it seems, and the folks of Urban Dictionary got a name for it: Junophobia, an irrational fear of teenagers who incorporate more than 10% of Diablo Cody's slang into their lexicon. If you suffer from that condition, don't dunk your marmalade in the trash just yet - there Is help. Empire Online has taken upon themselves to assist those poor people with their handy guide to the slangy lexicon invented by stripper turned... »

Singing Spidey's back!
You know that musical Spiderman from Julie Taymor that was declared all but dead recently because of monetary problems? Well it ain't quite that dead. Yet. Variety says that with a new producer on board, meaning someone who found a new source of gullible cash cows, work has resumed And...they found a Spidey. A complete unknown with no reputation to lose in the first place. Music industry vet Michael Cohl joined Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark (title of the friggin decade!) as lead producer. He... »

Trailer for Jordan
I always like to find a trailer for a small indie film that completely captures my curiosity, as is the case here with Jordan, a film that I find hard to decipher what genre it'll actually turn out to be. From rookie director Stuart Hynson Culpepper, the film follows a cute young girl who, having been found by a small town cop after walking away from a car crash, claims that the woman who calls herself her mother is in fact a complete stranger. Which one is lying, and why? The synopsis... »

Eclipse teaser poster
6 November 2009 12:05 PM, PST
The suspense is over, the teaser poster for Eclipse is here. So, there wasn't much suspense for it, but those who are interested get a peek. I can't say that it does anything for me. It's exactly what you might assume a poster for Eclipse would look like, it's a picture of an eclipse. Then again, it is just a teaser poster. I prefer it to some of the other posters from the Twilight saga. Don't expect for the news about sparkly vampires to go away anytime soon. The movies are being... »

Cusack and Preacher?
6 November 2009 10:35 AM, PST
Is John Cusack fishing for a role in Preacher? Perhaps, at least he thinks that's what it is. The peeps over at io9 got an exclusive with Cusack where the topic of comic book movies came up. As you might already know, Sam Mendes will be directing with John August (Go, Charlies Angels) penning the screenplay. Cusack is down with doing a comic novel, but would rather do something more adult oriented because those comics have the better stories in his opinion. The site asked the actor... »

New Wolfman poster
6 November 2009 9:22 AM, PST
Instead of having a menacing picture of Benicio del Toro as The Wolfman, we've got his fair lady. The black and white poster shows Emily Blunt terrified, hiding behind a tree hoping the wolf doesn't find her. If you've seen the trailer, it's the scene that they end on. What I really like about this, is it almost looks like a sketch. It's also intriguing that they left off Benicio adding to the suspense. The bonus is staring at the gorgeous Emily. Wolfman will be out February 12, 2010.... »

MWF2 launch trailer
6 November 2009 5:41 AM, PST
I know, I Know, you guys are going to kill me. But it's a slow news Friday, and even though we've posted a bit about Call of Duty: MWF2 on the site before (read: a massive two other stories), this new launch trailer for the game is too epic not to put up today. I am Not on Infinity Ward’s payroll, I just think it’s worth watching as a badass cinematic experience. Also, to reinforce that I'm not an Xbox fanboy, I will remind you that the game is coming out for 360... »

Greene an Apparition
6 November 2009 3:41 AM, PST
Now this isn't Twilight news per se, so I don't think I need to let Niki take it, but it does have to do with someone from the series, Edward Cullen's sister, Ashley Greene (yes, the one with all the leaked naked pictures on the internet). She’s branching outside her vegan vampire role, and stepping into The Apparition, a supernatural thriller that chronicles a young couple haunted by something ghostly released during a college experiment. Oh, and it’s “inspired... »

High Fidelity reunion
6 November 2009 3:26 AM, PST
Director Stephen Frears and writer D.V. DeVincentis last worked together on the John Cusack classic, High Fidelity back in 2000, but now they’ve reteamed for a new project, titled Lay The Favorite, based on an upcoming memoir by Beth Raymer. Raymer's memoir is set amid a group of fiftyish math geeks who figure out how to work the sportsbook system in Las Vegas for their own profit. It centers on a woman in her early thirties who has made a series of bad choices but achieves a... »

Cohen gets in Accidentes
6 November 2009 1:54 AM, PST
After filming two back-to-back guerilla-style comedies, Sacha Baron Cohen is sticking to characters in scripted movies for the future and has set up a couple of projects in Hollywood. The first is a comedy set up at Universal titled Accidentes, which would star Cohen as "an ambulance-chasing personal injury attorney of Latin descent who becomes a hero of the working class." The film had previously been set up at Fox for Cohen to produce but once Fox Atomic closed, Cohen brought... »

Nakata directs Stone
6 November 2009 1:13 AM, PST
Earlier this decade, director Hideo Nakata had a lot of things going for him. The American remake of his Japanese horror flick The Ring was a huge hit and launched a new sub-genre in Hollywood. A number of his films were tabbed for remakes and some made it through development (Dark Water) and some didn't (Chaos). But the J-horror genre started to play itself out and by the time Nakata made his English-language debut on The Ring 2, the movie was widely panned and Nakata's buzz stateside had... »

New Derrick short
6 November 2009 1:02 AM, PST
If you haven't been watching NBC's "Community," you've been missing out on one of the funniest new comedies on TV (you can always catch up on Hulu). One of the breakout stars of the show has been Donald Glover who's been doing killer work on the series. Glover is a member of the Derrick Comedy ensemble who are out trying to get their first feature, Mystery Team, out in theaters. To help promote Mystery, Derrick has come out with their first short film in over two years titled... »

Review: The Fourth Kind
5 November 2009 11:56 PM, PST
Plot: Supposedly fact based (riiiiight), this film examines close encounters of the so-called "fourth kind"- involving alien abductions, and the unsettling experiences of a psychologist (Milla Jovovich), who, along with several of her patients- becomes a victim to this phenomena. Review: I really don't know what to make of The Fourth Kind. I think it's an extremely well crafted movie, with star Milla Jovovich, and director Olatunde Osunsanmi working hard to convince us that... »

Review: The Men Who Stare at Goats
5 November 2009 11:51 PM, PST
Plot: A reporter (Ewan McGregor), embedded in Iraq in 2003, teams up with a former special ops soldier, Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), who claims to be a highly trained psychic warrior, or "Jedi Knight". Cassady claims he's the product of a top secret training program founded by a new age Colonel (Jeff Bridges), which, among other things- gave him the ability to kill goats telepathically. Review: The Men Who Stare At Goats is the perfect way to kick off my stint at the Toronto... »

Isla the Desperado
5 November 2009 9:14 PM, PST
Can I just take a moment's pause, before reporting the story, to say Damn Isla Fisher is one pretty woman. Thank you. That being said, The actress is the potential star to what Uniserval hopes will be a hot-chicks version of The Hangover. The pitch is titled Desparados from rookie screenwriter Ellen Rapoport, mostly known for writing on "The Jamie Kennedy Experiment". Our deepest sympathies go to her for that. The story would have Fisher and her gal pals cross the country to find... »

Reno has 22 Bullets
5 November 2009 7:19 PM, PST
Been a while since we were treated to Jean Reno the badass, hasn't it? Not that Couples Retreat was bad, just not the kinda thing I like to see him in. And that Just Visiting U.S. remake, not the kinda thing I like to see period. But that's just me... Reno looks to be back in bloody glory with 22 Bullets, based on the French novel "L'Immortel". He'll be playing a retired mafia hitman who goes after the long-time rival who left him for dead and riddled with 22 bullets. Hence the... »
