Zack and Miri's Money Shots - Webisode #2
10 October 2008 5:26 PM, PDT
Earlier this week we brought you the first introductory episode of "Money Shots", the behind-the-scenes series on the making of Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno. A few more episodes have been released since then, including this second one titled "Kevin & Seth". In this episode, Seth Rogen chats with director Kevin Smith on set and learns how to be more like Ben Affleck. As everyone hopefully knows, Kevin Smith worked with Ben Affleck on Chasing Amy, Jersey Girl and Dogma (among other cameo roles) before. Which is why this is a funny (and painful) conversation to watch. Check it out and enjoy! First Look: Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes
10 October 2008 3:55 PM, PDT
The paparazzi over at Just Jared have snapped the first few photos of Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes on the streets of London. Guy Ritchie and his crew are currently shooting in Central London, although we haven't seen any appearance of Jude Law as Watson just yet. We've documented more than enough times that this a fresh new take on the character that breaks the classical boundaries that he was imprisoned by beforehand and this is our first glimpse. He still looks stylish in these first few photos, which is enough to convince me that Guy Ritchie really knows what he's doing with this character. Downey Jr. responded to a question previously about what he's planning to do with a character that has been seen so many times before. "Clearly I'm going to do it better than it's ever been done. The more I read about it the more

Beautiful New German Day the Earth Stood Still Poster
10 October 2008 3:27 PM, PDT
An international poster for The Day the Earth Stood Still has been unearthed today over on IESB. I can't help myself, I'm a big sci-fi guy, and like the Defiance trailer before it, I'm even more excited by this than any normal person would be. The Day the Earth Stood Still is one of the few remaining films left this year that I'm genuinely very excited to see. And this poster, there's just something about Keanu Reeve's cold, alienating stare that gives me the chills. We won't ever see this up in any theaters in the Us, but it's a poster that I might pay good money to see on my own walls. Am I really the only one? From all the footage that we've seen, including that extended seven-minute trailer that showed in front of "Fringe", I've got to say that I still think this is going to be

Kevin's Review: Body of Lies - Probably the Best Thriller of Its Kind
10 October 2008 6:02 AM, PDT
Post-9/11 thrillers have come and gone over the years, but none have ever really gotten the recipe right. The Kingdom is too heavy on action; Traitor tries to be too smart; and there's just no redeeming Rendition. It's easy to say that Ridley Scott's Body of Lies is a bit tardy, but I'd prefer to describe the film's entrance into this growing genre as fashionably late. With Scott at the helm, and Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe as leads, Body of Lies is a blockbuster both on paper and in execution. The truth is, it's taken a visionary like Ridley Scott to combine the right ingredients in such a way as to create the only truly compelling film of its kind that, despite dealing with combustible topics, manages not to destroy itself. DiCaprio stars as cold, calculating CIA Operative Roger Ferris who maintains surprising capability and leadership in-country, despite

Must Watch: Phenomenal Trailer for Edward Zwick's Defiance
10 October 2008 5:28 AM, PDT
Looking for a World War II movie that looks better than Valkyrie? Here it is. Variety has debuted the second full trailer for Edward Zwick's Defiance, which stars Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, and Jamie Bell as three Polish brothers. I'm a big war movie guy, so these kinds of movies usually excite me more than normal, but I still think this looks absolutely phenomenal. This really looks like it could really compete with Bryan Singer's Valkyrie in terms of production and intensity, but remarkably Paramount is giving it a limited release. After the buzz that this trailer is certain to cause, I'm hoping they change their mind. I really mean it when I say this looks like a huge sleeper hit, maybe even the best movie of the year. It hasn't been shown to anyone yet, most likely because they've been finishing the effects, but it still has

New World Record: Watching 57 Movies in 123 Hours Non-Stop!
10 October 2008 5:00 AM, PDT
Suresh Joachim and Claudia Wavra emerged victorious earlier this week from the Netflix World Movie Watching Championships. These two watched a total of 57 movies continuously for 123 hours and 10 minutes, setting the new Guinness World Record for most consecutive hours spent watching movies. Think it's a fan's dream to be able to watch so many movies? Think again! To give you an idea of how insanely grueling this was, they spent five days straight in a plexi-glass box in the middle of Times Square in New York City watching movies non-stop. Joachim is actually an endurance world-champion who holds 32 other world records, including 100 straight hours of dancing. Damn impressive, I must say! I guess the reason why I wanted to mention this is because I thought I used to be one of those crazy endurance guys who could watch movies endlessly, but I'm nothing compared to these ...

So Clint Eastwood is a Racist (in Gran Torino) After All?
10 October 2008 3:14 AM, PDT
Who would've thought that the most secretive project in Hollywood would've been a Clint Eastwood movie? This isn't actually about Eastwood being a racist in real life, this is about his next film, Gran Torino. In about three months time we'll see two complete Clint Eastwood films hit theaters, including Changeling in the next month, and Gran Torino after that. This was first announced early in the year, but no one knew what it was actually about. As time went on, rumors popped up stating it was another Dirty Harry or just a movie about a grumpy old man, but now we have some solid information from Eastwood himself. Following the debut of Changeling at the Nyff, Eastwood talked about his character in Gran Torino, as reported by USA Today. The film apparently "slams both prejudice and political correctness" and his character, Walt Kowalski, is described as unflattering and potentially controversial.

Seth Rogen Picks Up Will Reiser's I'm With Cancer Project
10 October 2008 2:37 AM, PDT
Will Reiser's autobiographical comedy I'm With Cancer has been picked up by Mandate Pictures for Seth Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg to produce. The script is about Reiser's struggle to beat cancer, with a story centering on a 25-year-old who finds out he has the disease. Reiser was a producer for a few HBO and VH1 shows, including "Da Ali G Show". Rogen will have a supporting role in the film and I'm guessing Mandate will look for some big name actors and a director to turn this in a hit comedy. So although cancer really isn't funny, I'm expecting this to be a great comedy if Rogen took an interest in it. Rogen and Goldberg are writing and producing Jay and Seth vs the Apocalypse for Mandate as well. I'm With Cancer is being fast tracked and will go out to directors this month in hopes of

Must Watch: Awesome New Transporter 3 Full Trailer!
10 October 2008 1:27 AM, PDT
We've got some awesome late night delight today! A full trailer for Transporter 3 has popped up just in time for the release late next month. I guess the only trailers we saw before this were all just teasers. Let me just say that hot damn this looks fuckin' awesome! Why was I not a fan of the earlier Transporter movies? I don't know, but that's all going to change this November. Our resident badass actor Jason Statham takes on thugs left and right in his sleek new Audi in this trailer, which involves everything a perfect action movie should: hot women, car chases, fist fights, guns, and whatever else they've stuffed in this movie! The Orphanage's Juan Antonio Bayona Helming Hater Next
10 October 2008 1:11 AM, PDT
Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona has been tapped to direct the feature adaptation of David Moody's novel Hater. The project is being developed and produced by Guillermo del Toro for Universal and scripted by Glen Mazzara (of "The Shield" and the "Crash" TV series). The thriller is about an epidemic of random violence in which ordinary people strike lethally without warning or remorse. Bayona is making his English language debut with Hater after impressing the world (to a grand total of $76 million!) with his horror film The Orphanage. "I like the idea of a movie that talks about the state of fear we live in nowadays," Bayona told Variety. I love the concept and now they've chosen a great director. Universal originally wanted Guillermo del Toro himself to direct, but his journey on The Hobbit has prevented him from taking on smaller projects like this. Del Toro commented previously

Kevin Smith Explains Why He Really Wants to Make Red State
10 October 2008 1:00 AM, PDT
We're providing as much coverage of Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno as we possibly can, but considering I've already seen it, I'm also anxious for details on Kevin Smith's next movie - the horror film Red State. Just before I caught up with Kevin Smith myself (my interview will be up in a few weeks), Quint over at Ain't It Cool News spent some time chatting with Smith and at the end got a moment to talk with him about Red State. We've heard him mention before that the film is very bleak and very dark and will be a tough sell, but he gives some insight this time into why he's so passionate about still making it. In talking about Red State, Smith explains that, "Problem is, the flick is bleak. Beyond bleak, even. Remember how bleak Dark Knight was? This flick makes the

Creepy Fun Bedtime Stories Poster Unveiled
9 October 2008 5:48 PM, PDT
If it weren't for the entertaining story surrounding Bedtime Stories, this would be a much creepier poster than it is. But alas, we all know this is a fun little Disney movie about a hotel handyman whose fairy tale bedtime stories begin to come true. I'm sure everyone saw the short TV spot we debuted for this in September. We neglected to run the actual trailer but that's because it wasn't anything different than the TV spott. I'll definitely be seeing this come December, but I don't think it's going to be any Disney classic (like Enchanted was). I just think it looks like an amusing and fun little family comedy. Thanks to Yahoo for officially debuting this today. Since we didn't have much time to talk about this before, I'm wondering what people think about this movie? Does anyone think it looks truly amazing? Bedtime Stories is directed by

Another Full Trailer for Twilight Has Just Arrived
9 October 2008 5:32 PM, PDT
Ugh. I really don't want to watch this, but I guess I will, just to see what the hype is all about. And for those who are already crying tears of joy just thinking about watching this, here you go. Yet another full trailer for Twilight has just arrived and it looks as dark and thrilling as... I don't really know. I just know that teenage girls (and other Twilight fans) around the world are going to go crazy tonight over this trailer. And I don't think I need to provide any further introduction to this, except to say that I honestly think it looks terrible. This looks like it should be showing on The CW, not in theaters. But that's just my own impression. Great Poster for Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker
9 October 2008 3:07 PM, PDT
There is one movie I kept missing up in Toronto called The Hurt Locker, an Iraq War movie about an elite Army bomb squad. So why should you care about yet another Iraq movie? Well this one is supposedly one of the best movies set in that part of the world. Jeffrey Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere has got his hands on some sort of brand new poster for the film and I agree with him - it looks great. It's a simple visual marketing gimmick but it works. And maybe this kind of marketing will actually help this gain some buzz, because right now it has absolutely none, despite being one of the most praised movies in Toronto. "The Hurt Locker is like having your heart operated on by a construction worker wielding a power pneumatic nail-driver. And the high-voltage stuff, which happens often, is, no joke, on the level

Must Watch: David Goyer's The Unborn Trailer!
9 October 2008 2:17 PM, PDT
The Unborn, written and directed by Dark Knight-scribe David S. Goyer, has been given a damn impressive first trailer. If you recall, Goyer spoke at length about his "old school horror movie," which is, in part, based on a bit of Jewish folklore. The film surrounds a girl that must fight off a spirit that attempts to inhabit her body, lest that spirit be reborn causing the living girl to wander the netherworld in its place. The plot seems approachable enough, and with Gary Oldman involved as a spiritual advisor, I'm totally on board. Don't let Michael Bay's name scare you off as this might actually be a hit for Platinum Dunes - some of these scenes and effects look top-notch. Check out the trailer and let me know what you think! Jamie Foxx Joining Gerard Butler in Law Abiding Citizen
9 October 2008 1:54 PM, PDT
Director Frank Darabont's next project, Law Abiding Citizen, could have Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx going head-to-head. We learned earlier this year that Butler would play one of the leads - a successful D.A. targeted by a grief-stricken husband out for revenge following a plea deal that set one of the killers of his daughter and wife free. Foxx will play the vigilante husband. If you're a fan of "Law and Order" you know that going after the lawyer is rarely a smart (or effective) move. Being that Foxx's character is set to cross conventional vigilante lines, Law Abiding Citizen certainly has an air of intrigue. If I had to guess, the film will have all manner of murky shades of grey. Foxx will be motivated by emotion, while Butler will be motivated by his loyalty to the system, each knowing that what they're doing isn't exactly right

Rumor: Neveldine and Taylor's Jonah Hex is Josh Brolin?
9 October 2008 5:08 AM, PDT
There was a fun little incident a few months back regarding a proposed photo of Thomas Jane as gunslinging comic character Jonah Hex. He had himself made up for a photo shoot in order to convince directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor to cast him, but he didn't get the job. So if he wasn't the right choice for Jonah Hex, then who is? News comes today from Jeffrey Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere that apparently it's none other than ex-Goonies member Josh Brolin. Although at this time, I think it's more appropriate to call him George W. Bush. Although he's an incredible actor, I prefered Thomas Jane. Wells explains that Josh Brolin's rep kept claiming that he was not attached and that this rumor wasn't true, but Wells insists it is because he trusts his friend. Neveldine and Taylor are very vocal filmmakers and I'm sure they will confirm

One Last Look at Mark Wahlberg's Max Payne!
9 October 2008 4:08 AM, PDT
Max Payne finally hits theaters in about a week, which means we'll finally get to see whether or not this is one of the first video game movies to break out of the mold. Fox has released a final batch of photos from the film to boost some last minute interest and I've decided to feature a few of them. Instead of posting them all below like we've seen so many times before, I put together a bit of a montage that shows us just how good this movie could be. I'm not going to say it's a solid hit (I haven't even seen it yet), but at the very least, the visual style in it is brilliant. With that said, let's take one last look at Max Payne. It was only July when we saw the first trailer for this. Since then we've been treated to a few more

Worth Watching - Oct 9: Palme d'Or Winner The Class
9 October 2008 4:00 AM, PDT
This year's winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes is a French film titled The Class aka Entre les Murs. A trailer for the film has been discovered, courtesy of The Playlist, and is worth watching for those interested in seeing what this year's big Cannes winner is all about. Although it doesn't have subtitles (I wish I knew what they were saying!), you should be able to get through it anyway with this plot synopsis in mind: The Class is an evocation of contemporary society as seen through a year's worth of events in a Paris junior high school. Sound interesting? After watching this trailer, you should be more than interested!
