The upcoming Smurfs movie, which has been on the radar in the form of speculation and rumors for years, has officially signed on a director. Producer Jordan Kerner (Charlotte's Web) has announced that Raja Gosnell, who early in his career edited such classics as Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire before moving onto directing the uhh... slightly less classic Scoobie-Doo and Beverly Hills Chihuahua, will be tackling the upcoming live-action/animated hybrid Smurfs.

This latest developement brings the famed tiny blue cartoon characters one step closer to the big screen. Shooting is expected to begin in New York City this fall.
