The director of Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Scooby Doo has been hired to call the shots on the Smurfs movie. Raja Gosnell will immediately begin work on the production to get it ready for a December 17, 2010 release.

The movie will blend computer generated Smurfs together with live-action actors. No cast members have been announced for the project so far. Not even a Smurf-sized nugget of information has leaked about what the film's story will be about.

Gosnell began his Hollywood career working as an editor on such films as Teen Wolf Too, D.O.A. and Home Alone. He made the leap to directing on 1997's Home Alone 3 and then followed it up with Never Been Kissed, Big Momma's House, the two Scooby-Doo movies and the remake of Yours, Mine and Ours. Sony Pictures is likely hoping that the worldwide fanbase for the Smurfs will translate into box office success like »
