George Clooney Lends Star Power to Earthquake-Damaged City

George Clooney's next project will allow him to be an actor and humanitarian at the same time. On Thursday, the Oscar-winning star visited L'Aquila, Italy - a city hit by an earthquake in April that killed more than 300 people - and told reporters he plans to help boost the region's economy by shooting a movie there and "draw[ing] attention to this tragedy." "We'll shoot a film here at the end of September, in which I will act," he said, though he didn't name the film. "I think this is the best way to lend a hand and boost the economy.

George Clooney is in a rebuilding period. While touring L'Aquila, capital of the central Italian region of Abruzzo, where a 6.3-magnitude earthquake on April 6 killed nearly 300 people and left upwards of 65,000 homeless, the Oscar winner announced that he plans to come back soon to shoot part of his next movie in hopes of boosting the economy in the medieval fortress town. "We'll shoot a film here at the end of September, in which I will act," he told reporters Thursday. "We're here to draw attention to this tragedy." Pelosi On Proposed Measure: Beat It!

House Speaker says it would open up "contrary views" about singer's life.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday shot down a resolution to honor Michael Jackson, saying that the proposed measure could raise supposed "contrary views" about the King of Pop's life and legacy.
Lawmakers still have the freedom, however, to use House speeches "to express their sympathy or their praise any time that they wish," Pelosi said.
"A resolution, I think, would open up contrary views...that are not necessary at this time to be expressed," Pelosi said at a Capitol Hill news conference Thursday.
