With Marcus Nispel officially announced as the director of "Conan," fans are simply waiting for that other shoe to drop — namely, a casting announcement for the titular Cimmerian warrior.
While nothing is official yet, the recent revelation of the film's many characters indicates that an announcement could be coming soon. Moviehole has posted casting breakdowns for "Conan," which reportedly begins filming in Bulgaria on February 15.
In addition to providing detailed information on Conan himself, the breakdowns also reveal many of the film's other character as well as some key plot information. [Spoiler Alert!]
According to the breakdowns, Conan is described as "a savage killer that has matured into the refinement his father tried to teach him when he was young. Conan is very smart, almost inhumanly strong, and very cunning. His entire life, from the moment of his birth, has been shaped by violence."
Additionally, the report notes that Conan is personally »

Halloween brings out the ghosts, ghouls and reissues of Haloween favorites and “favorites.” Universal, one of the great studios for catalog Blu-ray releases has put out two cult-classics, and one film that might strain to be some day. My reviews of An America Werewolf in London, Army of Darkness and Van Helsing after the jump.
John Landis has a great and awkward career, one that started with promise and mutated into saggy but somewhat enjoyable enterprises. It’s hard to say if the joy is gone because his first episode of Masters of Horror suggested that the man still has some game. An American Werewolf in London may not be his best movie (it’s hard to argue between it, Animal House and Trading Places), but it’s one of the great modern horror films.

As far as we know, a second 300 movie is currently being worked on by Frank Miller, the creator and artist of the original 300 graphic novel. After the amazing success of the rated-r film back in 2007, it’s no wonder they want to pump out another one. Miller is interested, producer Marc Canton is interested and most importantly, Director Zack Snyder is interested… But only if Miller makes a graphic novel for it first.
The major question surrounding the project however, is when it would take place and who would it be about. Well, Gerard Butler is certainly interested in returning if it happens…
Just over a year ago at a Warner Brothers presentation for Watchmen, Zack Snyder revealed that the next movie would take place “between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea,” the latter of which is where the first film ended off with Dilios, the one-eyed »

Stephen Sommers’ helmed “Van Helsing” is a lighthearted and over-the-top affair. Sommers is best known for similar work in “The Mummy,” “The Mummy Returns” and the recent “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.” Although this was fun to watch at the time, it is and will slowly take on spoof proportions as time goes on. It should not to be taken seriously and thrown into the horror genre by any means. Jackman takes the role of the title character, a man who’s busy at first site hunting down Mr. Hyde who has disposed of numerous male, female and child victims. He even has his own Q as Bond does in Carl (David Wenham of “Lord of the Rings” and “Australia”) who develops high-tech weapons 007 would love to get his paws on. Then we have Frankenstein refuses to cooperate with Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh) who wishes to naturally use him for his own dire needs, »

Jon Hamm, star of the acclaimed cable series Mad Men, has joined the cast of Zack Snyder’s action fantasy flick Sucker Punch, which Snyder describes as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns”. Hamm joins Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish and Carla Gugino in the 1950s-set tale of a girl (Browning) confined to a mental institution by her stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. She and her friends enter an alternate reality where they begin planning an escape. Although details for Hamm's character are being kept under lock and key, the name is known: High Roller. Hamm is currently shooting Season 3 of Mad Men, whose Sunday premiere attracted 2.8 million viewers, a series high. In September, he will head to Boston to shoot The Town, a crime thriller being directed by Ben Affleck. Snyder is currently in production on the animated film Guardians of Ga’Hoole, »

Carla Gugino is reuniting with Zack Snyder, landing a role in the filmmaker’s upcoming action flick Sucker Punch, which has been described as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns”. Gugino previously worked with Snyder on the big budget adaptation of Alan Moore’s graphic novel Watchmen, where she played Sally Jupiter aka Silk Spectre. Gugino joins Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, and Abbie Cornish in the 1950s-set tale of a girl (Browning) confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. She and her friends enter an alternate reality where they begin planning an escape. Gugino will play a nurse in the insane asylum who becomes a madam at a brothel in the film's alternate reality. Snyder penned the screenplay with up-and-coming scribe Steve Shibuya. Snyder is currently in production on the animated film Guardians of Ga'Hoole, »

Marc Canton, the producer of 300, had a conversation with MTV Splash Page’s Larry Carroll recently, where he confirmed speculation that a sequel to 300 is gaining momentum. Reiterating comments previously made by 300 director Zack Snyder, Canton confirmed that Frank Miller, the author behind the graphic novel upon which the movie was based, is currently working on a sequel graphic novel that will later be transposed into a screenplay.
Commenting on what must surely be a complicated process (bringing to fruition a film that has few remaining leading characters), Canton says that Snyder and Miller have already agreed upon the story’s setting. However, in previous public statements, Snyder has said that he will have no hand in the creation of the new story in novel form; that will be left entirely up to Miller.
One would think the situation is pretty straightforward: if most or all of the original leading characters from 300 were killed off, »

Gerard Butler could be brought back to star in the sequel to Spartan war epic 300, in which his character King Leonidas died.
That's what producer Mark Canton seems to be hinting in the latest update on the project.
Director Zack Snyder's 2007 film was based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller about the Battle of Thermopylae, in which Leonidas and his 300 Spartan soldiers fought to the death against millions of Persians led by Xerxes The Great in 480Bc.
Asked if the original cast were ruled out of the next film, Canton told MTV: "Never assume anything. It'll be what it'll be. But if we really do it, in this case, we have a visionary creator and a visionary filmmaker."
He added: "Things are always looking good with 300, it's a blessing and a gift. Zack's a genius, and no matter where you go it's the one movie that people around »

There is a slight possibility that Gerard Butler will return to reprise his King Leonidas role in "300" sequel. In a chat with MTV, producer Mark Canton hints that King Leonidas may well be brought back from the dead. "Never assume anything; never assume anything," he said when responding to the question if the original cast of "300" were gone for good.
Canton further explained, "It'll be what it'll be. But if we really do it, in this case, we have a visionary creator and a visionary filmmaker." Aside from addressing the casting possibility, the "Land of the Dead" producer also revealed that the sequel is moving forward well. "Things are always looking good with '300,' it's a blessing and a gift," he said.
"Zack's a genius, and no matter where you go it's the one movie that people around the world seem to somewhat identify with the most," Canton stated. »

All the elements for an Oscar-winning epic are present in Public Enemies. Oscar-nominated directed Michael Mann? Check. Prestigious cast led by Johnny Depp and Christian Bale? Check. Biopic with a flawlessly rendered historical setting? Check. However, Mann’s drama about notorious gangster John Dillinger fails to use all it has in its impressive arsenal to move beyond its B-movie roots and become a truly great, or even a very good, film.
Johnny Depp has played antiheroes before, most famously as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean and its sequels, but his has rarely shown the hard edge occasionally on display in Public Enemies. Dillinger was a charmer, a man seemingly as concerned with his image and celebrity as the take from his heists, but Depp doesn’t hesitate to show the gangster’s colder side that audiences witness from the first few moments of the film.

Chicago – Was John Dillinger an Adolf Hitler-level criminal mastermind or a modern-day Robin Hood superman? In the authentic reality portrayed by the god-like Johnny Depp in the Chicago-filmed “Public Enemies,” he’s a little bit of both for blockbuster filmmaker Michael Mann.
Unfortunately, Depp’s nemesis – special agent Melvin Purvis as played by “The Dark Knight” mainstay Christian Bale – falls flat. Bale rolls through the motions with a monotone and monotonous role that needed the tension of a World War conflict rather than a rubber band.
Rating: 4.0/5.0 The French actress Marion Cotillard, on the other hand, delivers yet another intoxicating performance as Billie Frechette this time in a supporting role. We’re reminded why she ever-so-definitely deserved her 2008 Oscar for so absolutely embodying Edith Piaf in 2007’s “La Vie en Rose”.
Leelee Sobieski is thrown in toward the end as the downplayed character Polly Hamilton in a relatively wasted and unnecessary cameo. »

The players: Director: Michael Mann, Writers: Michael Mann, Ronan Bennett, Ann Biderman, Cast: Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Channing Tatum, David Wenham, Billy Crudup
Facts of interest: Based on the book by Bryan Burrough.
The plot: The film tells the story of American bank robber John Dillinger (Johnny Depp), who kept the FBI pretty busy during the Great Depression.
Our thoughts: Michael Mann’s latest gangster drama “Public Enemies” is both intriguing and dull. The film works just fine as a big-budget production highlighting John Dillinger’s spectacular escapes, wild shoot-outs with the FBI and fast-paced robberies, but as an examination of the man’s character and the key players around him, it clearly fails. »

The perfect sequel contains new and old tricks that blend to make a new movie with characters and stories that genuinely deserved closure or extension. Zack Snyer, the man with the vision behind Watchmen and 300 understands this, and has the foresight to see when a sequel could strike gold, or when it will just strike bottom.
At a screening prior to the release of Watchmen: The Director’s Cut Blu-ray, Coming Soon reports, Snyder knew of no plans to make a sequel to Watchmen, and if a sequel were to manifest, he would not be a part of it. However, in regards to whether his previous film, 300, would be given a second installment, Snyder had good news to share with fans.
When released in 2007, 300 was the third biggest opening for an R-rated film ever. In the hopes of reproducing that success, Snyder is currently in talks with 300 creator Frank Miller »

Nothing has been set in stone just yet for "300" sequel, but director Zack Snyder has indicated that he will use the same setting and technology to bring it to the big screen. "I think we would use the same technology... I don't want it to look too Star Wars-ian... Just from what [Miller] told me, it would be bigger as far as landscape and terrain," the 43-year-old told Coming Soon.
"We're going to see Athens and the Aegean and other places," Snyder further shared before adding that the sequel is likely to be made in a grander scale. "There would be an opportunity for bigger visions, though I'd hope for the same aesthetic. The tech we used for '300' was not a revolution. It's basically what the weatherman has. Look, instead of Accuweather it's Sparta... It's going to be the same way, but on crazier steroids."
As for how far the project from materialization, »

Over the past few days the marketing for Michael Mann's Public Enemies has ramped up a bit and I felt I may as well share the assets since I am sure, like me, many of you are looking forward to this one. Public Enemies stars Johnny Depp as the legendary Depression-era outlaw John Dillinger, the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover's fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public. Along with Depp and Bale the film stars Marion Cotillard, Giovanni Ribisi, Billy Crudup, Stephen Dorff, Rory Cochrane, Stephen Lang, David Wenham, Stephen Graham, Channing Tatum and Jason Clarke with a release date of July 1 in the not-so-distant future. “Public Enemies” is a 1930’s gangster movie based on the true story of Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger (Depp), who became the first ever Public Enemy Number One in America, and was instrumental in leading J. Edgar Hoover to overhaul the F.B.I and send his leading Agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale) to capture him by almost any means necessary including elaborate betrayals, plots and the hiring of western gunslingers and fighters to combat Dillinger’s gang members in the streets of Chicago.
Based on Bryan Burrough’s book “Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34″, Michael Mann directed the film and co-wrote it’s screenplay. Mann assembled an all-star cast including: Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Billy Crudup, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff, Channing Tatum, Emilie de Ravin, Lili Taylor, Leelee Sobieski, Rory Cochrane and David Wenham.

How do you know you’ve hit the big time in Hollywood? When your name comes before the title of your latest movie, even if it’s a series of character posters where you’re nowhere to be seen in most of them. Yup, such is the life of being Johnny Depp. It’s a wonder the guy doesn’t go around shooting people in the face thinking he could get away with it. Because, you know, he probably could, as popular as he is now. Anyways, three new character posters for Michael Mann (and Johnny Depp’s, of course) “Public Enemies” have surfaced online. The Feds try to take down notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s. Starring Christian Bale, Johnny Depp, Channing Tatum, Billy Crudup, Leelee Sobieski, Emilie de Ravin, Marion Cotillard, Giovanni Ribisi, and David Wenham. »
