Restraining Order Against Troyer Dropped

2 December 2009 2:06 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

A restraining order filed against Austin Powers star Verne Troyer by his ex-girlfriend has been dropped, after a judge ruled the pint-sized star is not a threat.

Yvette Monet, who briefly dated the actor after meeting him at a Playboy Mansion party a year ago, obtained a temporary order against Troyer last month, alleging he had bombarded her with abusive phone calls and left her fearing for her life.

Troyer filed a legal response to Monet's allegations, insisting, "At no time did I ever threaten Ms. Monet or even hint to her that I would harm her in any way."

Monet's bid to make her order permanent has been rejected by a Los Angeles judge, reports TMZ.com. »

Troyer Hits Back At Harassment Accusations

1 December 2009 2:06 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Verne Troyer has hit back at an ex-girlfriend who took out a restraining order against the actor, denying allegations he threatened to hurt her.

The pint-sized Austin Powers star briefly dated Yvette Monet after they met at a Playboy Mansion party in December. Last month, she claimed he had bombarded her with abusive phone calls that left her fearing for her life.

Troyer insists her accusations are false and has filed a legal response in Los Angeles.

Monet received a protection order last month after she told a judge she feared for her life because members of Troyer's entourage carry guns.

But Troyer maintains, "At no time did I ever threaten Ms. Monet or even hint to her that I would harm her in any way."

According to the Austin Powers star, the couple got into a fight after she asked to borrow money to pay her bills, but refused to show him the actual bills.

He eventually handed her a check for $2,000 (£1,250) but they broke up days later, reports TMZ.com.

Troyer denies sending Monet threatening messages, insisting he only found out about the restraining order when he read about it. »

What are the best TV ads of the noughties?

1 December 2009 3:53 AM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Let us know the TV commercials that have stood out for you over the past decade

Looking back at the TV adverts of the past decade, it's difficult not to be struck by the creativity on show. Rather than the movie-influenced blockbuster ads of the 90s, much of the industry turned to quirky conceptual ideas. Advertisers also exploited the growing power of the web – not only did successful campaigns make their mark on TV, they also went viral.

Some relied on special effects, some relied on exhaustive preparation by art teams – but some of the best were just a clever idea, simply executed. Who would have guessed that a man in a gorilla suit playing the drums would have been one of the most talked-about ads of the decade?

Below are some of our favourite ads of the noughties – let us know what you think we've missed out.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Review

22 November 2009 6:53 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is Terry Gilliam’s best film since Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or perhaps 12 Monkeys in 1995. In Parnassus, Gilliam proves that he retains the ability to pair his unique sensibilities with a beating heart of a character driven story. His visuals alone are noteworthy, but in this film they’re not the showcase.

The film centers around Christopher Plummer’s titular Dr. Parnassus, a bizarre Vaudeville-Wonka magician who is able to capture the souls of any passers-by who are willing to pay a pound to venture into their own imaginations. Parnassus is thousands of years old, due to a wager he has made with Mr. Nick (Tom Waits), who is ostensibly the Biblical Devil.

The unfortunate consequence of immortality, however, is that Parnassus continues to carry-on his show in a modern London that simply doesn’t care about his theatrics anymore — to see his »

Verne Troyer is best known for playing Mini-Me and acting alongside Mike Meyers in the comedic Austin Powers films. While his latest role occasionally offers comic relief, it's the serious tone of his portrayal he wants to talk about.

MakingOf recently sat down with Troyer to discuss his work in director Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus." During the interview the actor shared that he felt "very honored Gilliam gave me a chance to portray a dramatic character." Troyer also admitted that the director, who he worked with on "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", personally wrote this role for him and that their friendship influenced the characterization of Percy.

Troyer Denies Harassment Accusations

5 November 2009 11:21 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Verne Troyer has hit back at allegations he harassed his ex-girlfriend with abusive phone calls, after she was granted a temporary restraining order against the actor.

Yvette Monet told a judge that the Austin Powers star had been bombarding her with abusive phone calls, leaving her "awful messages" branding her a hooker.

In court documents, obtained by TMZ.com, Monet claims Troyer's entourage carry guns, adding, "His friend Jose is a cop and has guns as well. I'm afraid for my life."

However, the Mini-Me actor vehemently denies the allegations, and has vowed to fight the protection order in court.

His spokesperson tells blogger Perez Hilton, "Mr. Troyer is shocked and appalled to learn about the false and frivolous accusations that have been made by Ms. Monet. It is beyond comprehension that a Restraining Order could be obtained, with no notice to Mr. Troyer, and with no opportunity for him to defend himself, without any proof of any of the allegations. Mr. Troyer looks forward to responding to these allegations in court."

It is not the first time Troyer has had trouble with a former lover - in 2008, he sued his ex Ranae Shrider after she leaked a sex tape featuring the couple to the media. »

Troyer To Reveal All About Amish Upbringing In Memoirs

5 November 2009 4:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Pint-sized movie star Verne Troyer loved his Amish upbringing so much, he plans to dedicate a large chunk of his memoirs to his childhood years.

The Austin Powers star admits his youth was very simple, living with relatives in Michigan - but he has fond memories of his past hardships of living without luxury and electricity.

And he's hoping to give the Amish a public relations boost when he writes all about his childhood in an upcoming autobiography.

He tells WENN, "I used to be Amish, so I know how to drive a horse and buggy. Through growing up I always had to stay with my grandparents, aunts and uncles who are Amish, so when I go back to visit I still get into the culture.

"My parents make their own apple butter, which I'll be getting in time for Christmas. They don't use electricity or drive cars but, having been around it all the time, I don't think of it as strange.

"The way the Amish like to live is plain - it's very Little House on the Prairie. To not have the luxuries we all have and live life the way they think God intended is interesting. I do miss it because that's how I was raised. You get a whole other perspective on life and family because you don't have all these other distractions." »
