Shades of Dark & Darker

16 July 2009 7:21 PM, PDT | From www.culturecatch.com | See recent CultureCatch news

The latest Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, continues the franchise’s progressive departure from fun. All the bright, festive colors that decorated the earlier films have vanished, leaving these young wizards to play out their drama within a spectrum ranging from black to dark blue. Though the film is still enjoyable, it lacks some of the imaginative fancy of its predecessors.

The acting is solid enough all around aside from the nagging suspicion that Daniel Radcliffe is starting to tire of playing Harry.

'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' Sets New Midnight Record

15 July 2009 10:49 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" has set a new record for all-time midnight openings. According to its distributor Warner Bros., the sixth installment of "Harry Potter" series has raked in $22.2 million from its midnight screenings in North America, which is $10 million more than what "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" earned from midnight shows which took place in the same Wednesday slot.

With such amount, "Half-Blood Prince" has taken the crown from previous record holders Warners' "The Dark Knight", which collected $18.5 from midnight shows last summer, as well as 20th Century Fox's "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" which grossed $17 million over its midnight opening. The latest movie from J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series also beat up this summer's biggest hit "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" which pulled in $16 million from its opening night back in June.

Rupert Grint On BBC Radio1 Harry Potter Special And Other Shows!

15 July 2009 5:22 PM, PDT | From Rupert-Grint.us/ | See recent Rupert Grint - Ice Cream Man news

Rupert Grint was among the actors who were interviewed today by Edith Bowman, as a part of BBC Radio 1's Harry Potter special! Edith and her sidekick James also talked to Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Felton, Jason Isaacs and others. Edith called Rupert a "comedic genius", and praised his performance in "Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince". As for the interview, it's very funny and revealing -- Rupert talks about nicknames he's been given after coming down swine flu, about his giggling fits, and many other things. After the interview, Edith and James also talked how nice and friendly Rupert was, so I've attached that segment to the audio clip as well. If you live in the UK, you can listen to the interview directly on BBC Radio 1 here by selecting "Listen to the latest show" (Rupert's segment begins around 22 minutes). For the rest of you, I have prepared a downloadable version,

Daniel Radcliffe Blazes A Trail, Officially Confirms 'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows' Title

15 July 2009 3:30 PM, PDT | From MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news

Daniel Radcliffe, star of this week's summer mega-hit "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," sat down with MTV's Josh Horowitz last week for a press junket. We've known for awhile now that "Deathly Hallows," the final book in the series, would be split up into two parts for its silver screen adaptation. So Josh is understandably curious to hear what the young actor has to say about potential titles being tossed around for the two-part finale.

I'm not going to spoil it; just watch the video.

Is Radcliffe Dating O'Toole?

15 July 2009 2:56 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Rupert Grint has cast doubt on his Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe's single status, hinting his pal is secretly dating Irish actress Laura O'Toole.

Radcliffe, 19, recently complained he was struggling to look for love while promoting the latest wizard movie.

He told reporters, "You know, I'm not really doing the dating thing. It's not a case of 'I don't have time for a girlfriend'. I do. It's just like everyone else who's single I suppose."

The actor was linked with O'Toole when the pair starred together in the London production of play Equus, and Grint insists romance is still in the air. When asked about the status of their relationship, Grint told Us Weekly, "They're good."

Harry Potter Casts Spell Over Record Number Of U.S. Cinema-Goers

15 July 2009 2:56 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince has smashed U.S. box office records by raking in $22.2 million (£14.8 million) in less than 24 hours on Wednesday to score the best midnight opening gross of all time.

The sixth movie in the boy wizard franchise easily topped The Dark Knight's midnight opening earnings of $18 million (£12 million) when it was released last summer, and the $17 million (£11.3 million) grossed by Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith in 2005.

The latest installment, which stars Daniel Radcliffe as Potter, even cast its spell over a record number of Potter fans - the new film drew more devotees in its first few hours on show than 2007's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which took $12 million (£8 million) in its first day of release.

Wednesday's box office haul means director David Yates' big screen adaptation holds the title for biggest midnight draw of the year so far - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen took $16 million (£10.7 million) upon its first screenings in June.

And experts are predicting the Half-Blood Prince will topple the Transformers action sequel as the world's most popular film of the year, if opening figures are anything to go by - Revenge of the Fallen's 12 day total stood at $600 million (£400 million).

Review: “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”

15 July 2009 1:15 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Seen on: July 15, 2009

The players: Director: David Yates, Writer: Steve Kloves, Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon, Helena Bonham Carter

Facts of interest: David Yates is also directing the two "Deathly Hallows" parts.

The plot: It's his sixth year at Hogwarts, and Harry Potter explores the past of Voldemort as dark forces descend upon Hogwarts.

Our thoughts: The world’s most famous wizard returns to the big screen for a sixth time in David Yates’ “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” a splendidly executed family adventure and yet another superb addition to an already marvelous series based on the novels by J.K. Rowling. You know what? I’m just going to say it right now: as far as I’m concerned, this is the best Potter yet!

Radcliffe's Secret Writing Career

15 July 2009 12:11 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has embarked on a secret career as a writer - the teenage actor has already published a book under a fake name.

The 19 year old has vowed to keep his identity secret from the public as he continues to test his talents at writing, but admits he's enjoyed some acclaim with his first venture.

He tells U.S. magazine Star, "I write verse. I'm not sure if it's any good. I don't write under my own name - that would be a bit scary - but I have had a private book published, and it's appeared in some magazines. I don't think that I could ever in a million years write a novel or a play, but a poem or a short story, they are... within my bounds."

'Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince' Cheat Sheet

15 July 2009 9:30 AM, PDT | From MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news

From MTV.Com: It's kind of amazing to look back over J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" book series.

The first book, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," arrived in the United States at the end of 1998. Three years later, director Chris Columbus' movie adaptation hit theaters. Perhaps more than anything else, fans delighted in seeing their favorite characters from the book series — then on its fourth entry, "Goblet of Fire" — brought to life by a group of perfectly cast actors, led by Daniel Radcliffe's Harry.

Pic Post! "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" premiere

Every new Potter film brings comments of, "my how Harry, Hermione and Ron have grown!" "Can you believe, they're practically adults now?" And so forth. But we've gotten so far down the road in this franchise that it may actually be time to start speculating on whether Rupert Grint has had hair plugs, or if Emma Watson overdid it with the botox.

What, too soon?

Anyhoo, the hotly anticipated (and well-reviewed) latest installment of the Harry Potter franchise opens in the United States today, and in honor of that we thought we'd post some great photos of the uber gay-friendly Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson et. al. from last week's star-studded London premiere.

Kurt Loder Reviews 'Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince'

15 July 2009 8:30 AM, PDT | From MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news

From MTV.Com: "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is one of the darkest of the Potter books, so it's no surprise that the movie version is the darkest of the films to date. What is surprising — and I say this as someone who loves the books and has loved the movies up to this point — is how sluggish the new picture is. It gets underway with a limp scene set in a train-station café — a trivial flirtation between Harry, now 16, and an admiring waitress — and proceeds in surges and sags for the next two and a half hours. There are some marvelous scenes, beautiful images, wonderful moments — it isn't a "bad" movie by any reckoning. But it isn't up to the sweeping dynamic level of some of the pictures that preceded it.

Every fan knows the story: Darkness is descending on Hogwarts and all of the wizarding world. Voldemort's
