The anime is brought to life. However, the results are good but not as good as the anime that spawned it. It.s sad when a movie has so much potential but some terrible moves bring the whole thing down a bit. In 1970, Saya (Gianna Jun) is the new girl at a school on Yokota air force base. Appearances can be deceiving since Saya is a 400-year-old vampire. She can trace her origins back to feudal Japan where she was raised by Kato (Yasuaki Kurata). In modern times, she works for an ancient, secret organization called the Council that hunts demons and her handlers are Michael (Liam Cunningham) and Luke (J.J. Feild). She.s on assignment at the »

Here’s a list of some of the new movie and TV shows coming to DVD and Blu-ray this week that we’re looking forward to seeing. Also, there’s some classic, and not-so-classic, movies hitting Blu-ray for the first time this week as well.
Of all the new releases, we’re particularly interested in the Blu-ray versions of movies and TV shows such as Blood: The Last Vampire, Easy Rider and the first seasons of Hawaii Five-o and Vega$. Plus, I think some movie with lots of robots, explosions and Megan Fox also came out this week as well.
Check them out.

Chicago – Bill Kong can rightly be considered the producer King of the Modern Samarai Film. After cutting his teeth on the seminal “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” his latest release is a new spin on the genre with “Blood, The Last Vampire.”
Rating: 3.5/5.0 Saya (Gianna Jun) is a mysterious vampire slayer in 1970 Japan who works as part of a covert government agency that hunts and kills the bloodsucking demons. Her samarai and fighting skills were carefully taught, and she has a secret that motivates her insatiable drive to pursue and destroy the concealed monsters.
Enter Alice Mckee (Allison Miller), the daughter of a general who is directing bombing missions in Vietnam out of a Toyko air base. She encounters Saya when the warrior goes undercover in her high school. After Alice witnesses Saya’s slaughter of two demons who were in the school, she joins forces with the slayer to go after the ultimate vampire, »

Directed by Chris Nahon
Based on the story by Hiroyuki Kitakubo
Featuring Gianna, Allison Miller, Liam Cunningham, Jj Field, Yasuaki Kurata, and Koyuki
Something based on an anime movie about a female vampire hunter dressed up in a sailor girl’s suit just has to be awesome, doesn’t it? The answer is a very adamant, and disappointed, “no”. The live action version of the animated short, Blood: The Last Vampire (which I am sure sounds very poetic and makes sense in the Japanese language, just not in English) is a disjointed and weird movie about Saya (Gianna) and her weird adventures in 1970 Tokyo hunting the demoness Onegin (Koyuki)... Along for the ride is an annoying white chick (Allison Miller) who reminds me way too much of my college roommate Jennifer, and some awful CIA and army white-dude stereotypes that remind me that all Japanese people think Caucasians all look the same. »

From the UK to the Japan front, we been tracking the progress for the live action film adaptation of Blood: The Last Vampire and now the french has join in on the promotion. Allocine is hosting a new trailer with never before seen shots and six making-of videos, all in english dialogue. After watching all the videos, I gotta tip my hat to Jeon Ji-Hyun (english screen name: Gianna Jun) for the hard training she endured to play the lethal vampire hunter Saya. It must of been physically straining and painful on her (see third making-of video). A special mention also must be made on Koyuki. I had no idea she can speak english so fluently. And who’s the actor playing the old Japanese guy engaging in a sword duel against a gang of warriors? Its none other than veteran martial artist Yasuaki Kurata. I couldn’t tell before »
