His wife, Jamie Elvidge, was featured in the 1996 documentary Biker Women (1996) (TV). She works as a motorcycle journalist. Both she and Perry are avid motorcyclists.

By way of his grandfather, literary editor Maxwell Perkins, he descends from Senator Wm. Evarts, Roger Sherman, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and through Roger Sherman's grandfather, Roger Wellington, he descends from Edward I, King of England.

Graduated from Yale University with a degree in theatre, and then attended Julliard School, where he studied acting with John Houseman.

A Mount Union College on-campus house is named after his grandfather who was a graduate and benefactor of Mount Union. Perry King (the actor) grew up in the house, but his father (Dr. Robert King) donated the house to the college with the understanding it would be named after his father.
