Hollywood insiders are buzzing about "Twilight: New Moon" star Taylor Lautner being cast as "Max Steel" in a superhero movie about a teen recruited by a secret agency after (the usual story) an accident gifts him with super powers.
Many are wondering if the casting of 17-year-old Taylor signals the end of the old fart superhero and the reign of the hot teen heartthrob superhero.
Fact: the majority of superhero film fans who go to the theaters are young. Oh, sure, there are still some old superhero geeks like Kevin Smith (joke, Kev).
But most movie-goers are not baby boomers or even baby boomers' kids. They are teenagers and young twentysomethings who like to see actors their own age. Not their dads or grandpas.
And judging by the success of "Twilight's" squeaky-clean romance, these young-uns don't even want/need to see sex scenes.
And fact: Thanks to Taylor's addition of »

After years and years of making great film after great film, Steven Spielberg now seems to yet another director who just can't seem to make up his mind on what he wants to make. In a time when Steven Soderbergh and Woody Allen are releasing two, sometimes three films per year, Spielberg is taking his time. And for the most part, that has led to the on-again, off-again rhythm of developing films. He was developing a Lincoln biopic for Liam Neeson, and has since left that in limbo. He was also working on casting The Trial of the Chicago 7 while in post-production for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. That project has since been handed off to Ben Stiller. And now, according to Variety, Spielberg is leaving Harvey hanging in the wind. The pic was supposed to be an adaptation of Mary Chase's Pulitzer Prize-winning play about a about a man who befriends »

Robert Pattinson is starring in the number one movie right now, but sadly The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) will leave the theater and what will we have to look forward to? Luckily, there are two movies being released to a theater near you in 2010 and Rob is set to star in two others. First, in March of 2010 we will see Rob in Remember Me (2010). Then, in June of 2010, we will see Rob with his Cullen family when they return in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010). In a recent interview with MTV, Rob spoke about two movies that are in the works to be filmed hopefully in the winter/spring of 2010. In Remember Me (2010), Rob stars as Tyler who is dealing with a tragedy that has split his family and left his relationship with his father, played by Pierce Brosnan, strained. Tyler feels like no one understands him and what he is »

Twilight star Robert Pattinson is terrified about continuing his career after the vampire franchise - because movie studio bosses are pressuring him to draw in huge audiences and deliver moving performances.
The Brit has been bombarded with scripts ever since he shot to fame as vampire Edward Cullen in the hit 2008 film - but he's still adjusting to the idea of being able to reject a role after years of taking whatever parts came his way.
And Pattinson admits he's nervous about being cast in big-budget movies - because he's only starred in one other film, Remember Me, since the Twilight series changed his life.
He tells MTV.com, "It's definitely different. You get offered stuff that you would never dream of getting offered before, but that's also scary. You don't have to audition for anything. (But) I don't want to do a movie just so it gets made. You have to question yourself a lot more. Before Twilight, I did any movie that I got (offered), and you'd try and make the best of it afterwards. But now, you're expected to come into the movie and provide not only economic viability, but also a performance as well. You can't just mess around. People are like, 'We're employing you to be here, as a star and an actor.' It's difficult, and it's scary."
But the 23 year old can expect some good advice about the movie business from the high-profile actors he's set to work with, including Uma Thurman, Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman.
He adds, "I'm doing a movie (with Thurman) called Bel Ami in February, an adaption to a Guy de Maupassant novel. And I'm doing - I hope - a Western with Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman called Unbound Captives sometime around there as well. They've got to try and juggle things around until everybody's schedules work." »

Hold onto your seat cushion, Kanye West: It's on - again! Taylor Swift's amazing year continued at full speed as the teen sensation received eight Grammy nominations Wednesday - topped only by Beyoncé's 10. And with West not far behind, joining the Black Eyed Peas and Maxwell with six nods each from their music-industry peers, the stage is set for another awards show showdown. But can it top West's bizarre microphone grab during Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Awards? Naming the Grammy nominees was no quiet affair, either. Kicking off the big reveal was George Lopez , who »

Hugh Jackman and moviemaker James Cameron are set to swell the coffers of American children's charities by offering up money-can't-buy items for Variety's upcoming Power of Youth auction.
Jackman has offered up a walk-on role in X-Men and Lethal Weapon producers Laura and Richard Donner's next movie and a chance to spend time with him on set, while a private screening of Titanic director Cameron's much-anticipated new movie Avatar will also go under the hammer.
The winning bidder for the latter item will actually get to watch the sci-fi film with Cameron in his personal screening room.
Proceeds from the upcoming Los Angeles gala will benefit the Starlight Children's Foundation, among other charities. »

Most fans of established actors believe that one day their favorite will be nominated for an Oscar. In 2009 campaigns hopes are particularly high for Sandra Bullock, Alfred Molina, Colin Firth and Christopher Plummer. Fans of James McAvoy and Sam Rockwell still hold out longshot hope. But guess what? The odds are, generally speaking, against them on February 2nd (two months hence!) when the lucky 20 are called.
Most actors aren't ever nominated for the big prize. People seemed surprise to read in an old Oscar Mythbusting column I wrote years ago that the majority of nominated actors (approximately 67%) never receive a second nomination. But I did the research and it's true. Even less likely than a second nomination: a first one. Consider this...
The following (living) legends have still never been nominated despite rich bodies of work and several classic films or exuberantly praised performances: Mia Farrow, Isabelle Huppert, Christopher Plummer and Donald Sutherland. »

With the #1 movie in the world bearing his name above the title and Hollywood's hottest scripts lining his doorstep, it's a good time to be Robert Pattinson. Not that the 23-year-old star has had much chance to enjoy it, as he recently told us he only received "three days off" in 2009, and 2010 looks even busier.
Recently, MTV Radio caught up with the man beloved by millions as Edward Cullen to discuss his plans for the new year — from "Breaking Dawn" and beyond.
"I've only done one movie outside of the 'Twilight' series, 'Remember Me,' " Rob said of his first true post-fame project, a March 12 romantic drama opposite Emilie de Ravin whose »

So, fun fact I thought I'd spill to all you Broadway nerds: Despite what you may have heard about A Steady Rain being totally sold out, you've still got one chance to see Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman do their thing together (no, not that thing!) on the Great White Way. The two added one final performance to their turns as cops in Rain this Sunday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m.—and you're in luck because, yes, tickets are still available! And, it gets better because, what do you know? It's for a good cause. The absolute final performance will, at »

Recognition, a spot on tour and a paycheck are all a part of what it means to be in the So You Think You Can Dance top 10. Last week, Karen Hauer, an American Rhythm dancer from Fort Lee, N.J., and Victor Smalley, a contemporary wonder from Miami, barely missed the mark as the judges had their final say in who stays and who goes. There is another robot film coming out, but before you groan, it doesn’t have Michael Bay (Transformers), McG (Terminator) or Shawn Levy (Real Steel) attached. This one is called Panic Attack has a director you’ve most likely have never heard of attached, Fede Alvarez. That name might not make your ears perk up (yet) but this one will: Sam Raimi.
Raimi’s production company Ghost House Pictures (Drag Me to Hell, 30 Days of Night: Dark Days) has won a bidding war between a bunch of major studios to sign a seven-figure deal with Alvarez to have him direct a feature-length film based on a 4 minute short he released earlier this year.
Fede Alvarez is a commercial director from Uruguay (small country in South America just below Brazil), and until now no one outside of that country had heard of him. That is, until Kanye West posted a link »

I know what you’re thinking – “Hang on, isn’t that the guy from X-Men Origins: Wolverine? He’s a Marvel actor!” Yes, he’s the marvel superhero from both Wolverine and Blade Trinity, but now Reynolds is switching camps and heading over to DC to play the Green Lantern – seriously dude where have you been?
Talking to MTV earlier this week, Ryan Reynolds gave us an update on the (so far) troubled DC production and more importantly, the Green Lantern costume:
MTV: You have done everything from a publicity tour with Betty White to trying on the Green Lantern costumes. So, in looking back at the year, is there a moment that sums it up, that encapsulates what 2009 was about?
Reynolds: I think, seeing the prototypes for the Green Lantern costumes was a huge moment. It was a moment when I was like, “This is happening, and it’s happening in the right way. »

The 33 year old star of The Proposal sat down for an interview today with MTV to discuss the past year of his life, including the two big budget superhero movies he has signed on to star in: The Green Lantern and X-Men Origins: Wolverine spin-off Deadpool.
Speaking about The Green Lantern, which is the first of the two films to go into production, Reynolds said:
“I’ve known about “Green Lantern” my whole life, but I’ve never really followed it before. I fell in love with the character when I met with [director] Martin Campbell. When I sat down with him, I really got what it is that this guy is all about. When you have a guy like Martin Campbell, part of his charm is that he has ba–s of titanium, and the other part is that he’s slightly crazy, and you have to be to take »
