Milk Heads Down California Coast

14 November 2008 1:30 PM, PST | From Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news

The boys of Milk, James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Sean Penn, and Josh Brolin, stepped out to premiere their movie in La last night. They first walked the red carpet in Sf before the election, but Prop. 8 is still a hot topic. Earlier this week, James talked about the close ties between the film and the proposition, saying, "Things [since the '70s] have changed, but with Prop 8, it shows that we are not all the way there. And if Harvey Milk was alive today, there is no doubt he would be fighting Prop 8 as hard as he could. It just shows that this movie isn't just a history lesson. It's showing issues that are still very much alive today." It sounds like the guys brought a lot of passion to their latest project, and maybe their film will open a few eyes when it hits theaters. It's Rally Time in a New Clip from 'Milk'

5 November 2008 6:38 PM, PST | From Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Focus Features just sent over a new clip from the upcoming film Milk. Strangely enough this clip comes just after Barack Obama is the first ever elected African American and on the same day Proposition 8 passed in California, an anti-gay-marriage measure. Can you believe that? Where do people get off worrying about something that doesn't effect them whatsoever? Kris Tapley at In Contention wrote up an interesting article today asking if Milk, a film about the first openly gay man elected into major public office in America, had been released before the election would it be possible Prop 8 would not have passed? It's an interesting question and just goes to show that while America may have taken a step forward in electing Barack Obama, we have also taken a step back by now taking rights away. Appalling if you ask me. You can give the clip a watch just below

In Gus Van Sant's upcoming biopic Milk, powerful California Democrat Phil Burton shows Harvey Milk a flier the Democratic Party created in opposition to Prop 6, a 1978 statewide initiative that would have fired every gay teacher and anyone who supported them from their jobs, a law of dubious constitutionality that had nonetheless already been passed in other states. He says, "We want to send one of these to every home in California."

"Proposition Six is an affront to Human Rights," reads Harvey. "An invasion of the State into the private lives of California citizens." He points to the photos on the flier. "Does it even say the word 'gay' on this thing? Anywhere?"

"With the heat bearing down on your movement right now, we think it's best to dodge the 'gay' bullet," Burton replies. "Go for the human rights angle.

Actors Emile Hirsch, James Franco and Josh Brolin hope they'll entertain audiences of forthcoming film Milk beyond the big screen - by prompting more support for same-sex marriage in California.

The trio appear on screen together in the Harvey Milk biopic - which follows the life of the first openly gay man voted into public office in America.

And the castmates admit they hope to influence voters against California.s Proposition 8, which is attempting to outlaw same-sex marriage statewide.

Actor James Franco tells Access Hollywood at the film's U.S. premiere: "This is a really big night for San Francisco and it.s just great that this is happening right before Prop 8."

Echoing his sentiments, Hirsch adds: "This film premiere especially is going to generate a lot of attention for Prop 8. I think it.s going to be really helpful for (the fight against) Prop 8."

And their co-star, Josh Brolin, admits he too is hopeful the film will have a real impact.

He says: "If it does impact (election politics) I think that.s great. I feel very strongly about 'No' on Prop 8, and you just hope for the best."

Or are some of them already making similar patterns? - - - - - - Some Remarkable Career Paths: looking back at how some successful actors started out in acting. Blog: Terrifyingly Gnarly #2

20 October 2008 11:08 AM, PDT | From Fangoria.com | See recent Fangoria news

Hey! It’s Sam. Back here at the (now warmer) Fango offices.

Every couple of days, Tony will walk over to where I sit and ask me if I’d like to check out some stuff I haven’t seen. As rad as it is, it also reminds me of my super bad habit of letting movies I haven’t seen pile up on the desk in my room. So aside from me just ranting, this blog is also pushing me to actually get to these things instead of fall asleep watching True Blood, which I can’t figure out why I’m attempting to keep up with. I do the same thing with Entourage. They aren’t that good, but I watch it anyway; it’s so illogical, and slightly frustrating. Back to the point, the first DVD I popped in was called Midnight Movie, a (sorta) nice little slasher.
