Mini Biography

John Harrison began his career directing rock videos and working as 1st Ass't Director for famed horror director, George A. Romero (Night Of The Living Dead/Creepshow). Harrison wrote and directed multiple episodes of Romero's classic TV series, Tales From The Darkside before helming Tales From The Darkside, The Movie for Paramount Pictures which won Harrison the Grand Prix du Festival at Avoriaz, France.

Harrison co-wrote the animated feature, Dinosaur, for Disney. And he just completed the adaptation of Clive Barker's fantasy novels, Abarat, also for Disney.

He co-wrote and is Executive Producer of Painkiller Jane, a the new NBC/Universal and Sci Fi Channel series.

He is currently writing the pilot for Blank Slate, a series he created with Producer Dean Devlin and will direct for TNT.

His 6 hour miniseries adaptation of Frank Herbert's monumental bestseller, Dune, which he directed, was an Emmy winning success in the U.S., then internationally both in its broadcast premieres and subsequently in home video. Harrison's screenplay for Children Of Dune, another 6 hour mini series encompassing the next two novels of Frank Herbert's mythic adventure series, was another Emmy winner for the Sci Fi Channel.

Harrison has written screenplays for Robert Zemeckis and Richard Donner among others, and his writing and directing have been honored with awards from the Writers Guild of America, Houston Int'l Film Festival as well as the Grand Prix at Avoriaz. He has written and directed episodes of Tales From The Crypt (HBO), Earth 2 (NBC) and Profiler (NBC). He has also written and directed world premier movies for the USA Network and Starz/Encore.
