It's the new film from author Neil "godlike genius" Gaiman and stop-motion direct Henry "godlike genius" Selick, so you just know we're excited about Coraline. Which means that we're doubly excited to bring you the brand-new international poster for the film, showcasing its quirky, spooky look. The story follows the titular Coraline, an ordinary girl who moves into a flat in a new house with her parents. Quirky strangers live in the other two flats of the house - retired actresses Miss Forcible and Miss Spark next door, and retired circus performer Mr Bobo upstairs. But it's in a fourth part, behind an apparently bricked up door, that Coraline finds a fantasy world inhabited by her Other Mother and Other Father, who initially seem better than the real thing, but are terribly anxious to convince her to stay with them instead of returning home. The film's voice cast includes Dakota Fanning as Coraline,

If you were to ask ten people who directed Nightmare Before Christmas, it’s almost a guarantee that nine of them will come back with “Tim Burton” and those nine people would all be wrong. The film was actually directed by Henry Selick, who’s other works include James and the Giant Peach and Monkeybone. In Laika Entertainment’s Coraline, Selick is stepping in both the shoes of Director and Screenwriter as he adapts Neil Gaiman’s creepy-but-heartfelt 2002 novella.
The film is still in it’s final stages of production, currently working on scoring and sound mixing for a February 2009 release, but Selick, alongside producer Bill Mechanic, lead animator Travis Knight and costar Ian McShane were in New York with footage of the film and a brief Q&A.
The story is of a young girl (Dakota Fanning) who unlocks a mysterious door in her new home, and enters into

You can just call her Mariah Carey the movie star, because that’s all she’s been doing lately! Mimi has just signed for yet another movie role, and this one sounds deep. Mariah will be play a dowdy social worker in the movie Push, alongside Dakota Fanning. She says, "I'm not going to be a pretty picture. The role's a supporting part - a little scene - but it's a very important scene. I don't want to reveal what happens, but my character is important because things are revealed through her." The movie is about a group...

Coraline is going to scare the crap out of your kids. Having seen two key scenes from Neil Gaiman's graphic novel, I can guarantee you that any child under the age of 10 will have nightmares after seeing this movie. Hell, I'm surprised I didn't have any nightmares. Henry Selick, who directed The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, has brought back his unique style of stop-motion animation for this story, with spooky themes that fit in well with his pseudo-gothic style. It's a great thing for adults who are fans of the artistry of animation, especially an old-fashioned style like stop motion, which accomplishes several moments that feel like magic in just the few short scenes that I saw. The scenes set up the basics of the story, introducing Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning) and her parents (Teri Hatcher and John Hodgman) as they move into

Coraline is a high-definition stop-motion animated feature – the first to be originally filmed in stereoscopic 3D – based on Neil Gaiman’s international best-selling book. A young girl (Dakota Fanning) walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when this wondrously off-kilter, fantastical adventure turns dangerous and her counterfeit parents (including Other Mother Teri Hatcher) try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home – and save her family.
This past Monday a select group of press and college students were invited to watch clips from this new fairy tale, sprung forth from the minds of Neil Gaiman and Henry Selick, and I couldn’t think of a more perfect pairing. Since this is adapted from Gaiman

Deborah Kampmeier’s Hounddog is unfortunately known as the movie where Dakota Fanning gets raped in, despite it only happening in the third act of the story. Because of the “child porn” controversy surrounding the scene, I started the film fully expecting it to be the central premise—a dark tale of a young girl facing the aftermath of a sexual abuse. While this did in fact occur, it’s not until the last throes of the film. Even more unfortunate, however, is that the film barely sustains itself without it. Before the rape, Hounddog lingers about without a real sense of purpose, especially if you know what’s coming; it’s just a matter of counting down. The film is also more spirited than I initially expected. Set in the late 50s, Dakota Fanning stars as cheery twelve-year-old Lewellen, growing up in rural Alabama with her protective grandmother (Piper Laurie,

We're only a few months away from the animated fantasy, Coraline, based on the book by Neil Gaiman. Gaiman, as you probably know, is starting to get more and more film work. He wrote the novel on which Stardust is based, and that film should've had more public support.
He also worked on Beowulf and apparently might have something to do with Marvel's Dr. Strange one day if IMDb is to be believed, but we're looking so far in the future that it's too early to know for sure.
Coraline is Gaiman's Hugo Award-winning 2002 best seller about a girl who finds a mysterious door in her family's new house and when she goes through it, she finds Narnia. Ok, not exactly. She finds a fantastical parallel universe, yes, but it mirrors her own life in a lot of ways, so much so that on the other side of the door,

Empire have a bunch of new pictures from the upcoming movie Push, starring Chris Evans, about a bunch of American ex-pats with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities on the run from a shady government agency. It basically looks like an episode of Heroes stretched into a feature and having swapped out the Petrelli guy who says everything like it's a secret and the hot cheerleader chick for Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning. I find regular length episodes of Heroes insufferable, so you can imagine how excited I am about this thing.

Secret doors, mermaids and stop-motion Dakota Fanning. Coraline, the newest eye candy from Henry Selnick, director of Nightmare Before Christmas, and based on Neil Gaiman’s best-selling book, is the story of a young girl who finds a secret door into a fantasy world. Our friend George over at Latino Review got a sneak peek at Coraline this week. Check out his article and let us know if you’re excited for this one. The well-endowed mermaid with the pasties freaks me out a little.

Expected to be stealing its way into theaters on November 26, "Fanboys" won't be greeting its fans until 2009. Recent reports have claimed that The Weinstein Company have moved back the adventure comedy's release date to February 6, 2009.
In this new schedule, it will have to face a stiff competition from Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning-starring thriller "Push", Steve Martin-starring comedy "The Pink Panther 2" and Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore-starring romantic comedy "He's Just Not That Into You".
Though many speculated that the delay may be caused by the possible poor financial health of the production company, Harvey Weinstein has reached out to La Times to clear up things. On the pushing back of "Fanboys", he reasoned that it has to be done so they "can do a major promotion with Comcast, who's arranging for a big advertising tie-in" for them on the film.
Coming from producer/actor Kevin Spacey,

Moviemaker Rowan Woods has denied branding child star Dakota Fanning difficult to work with - insisting the rumours are not true.
Woods directed the 14-year-old star in new film Winged Creatures and was recently reported to have called her a "disaster" onset over her diva-like behaviour.
But Woods is adamant that he never made the comments and has praised the teenager for her professionalism.
In a statement to Defamer.com, Woods writes, "I am very upset and disappointed on behalf of Dakota that such untruths have spun around the internet in regards to Dakota and Winged Creatures and that those opinions be attributed to me. They are not my opinions.
"Dakota Fanning is an incredible actor and a wonderful person. I am proud to be associated with Dakota's amazing performance."
