Anna Faris, Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake are in negotiations to join the cast of Warner Bros.' live-action/CG animated "Yogi Bear."Donald De Line and Karen Rosenfelt are producing and Eric Brevig will direct from a script by Brad Copeland. According to Variety, shooting is expected to start in New Zealand next month.Faris is in negotiations to portray a documentary filmmaker. Aykroyd is in negotiations to voice Yogi and Timberlake is in talks to voice Boo-Boo, Yogi's sidekick.Yogi's character, inspired by Art Carney's portrayal of Ed Norton on "The Honeymooners," first appeared in Hanna-Barbera cartoons in 1958. »

1868 La Belle Otero Spanish actress, courtesan to royalty, La Folies Bergere dancer and star of a scandalous silent short performing the "Valse Brilliante". Where's her biopic? In order to inject life into that zombie-like genre (no brains, only forward motion) I really think filmmakers need to look at more obscure but still fascinating figures, further back in time. If they stop trying to win Oscars and just try to tell interesting stories, I bet they'll still win the Oscars. Try harder, Hollywood.

1913 Gig Young won the supporting actor Oscar for They Shoot Horses Don't They?, a totally brilliant and Oscar historical film. Emcee roles are sometimes gold for awards contention, right?

'Twilight Zone' Featured in Classic TV Stamp Set

I was in the post office the other day and saw one of the "coming soon" ads for stamp collections that were on the way. It was too distant for me to make out exactly what it was, but one of the upcoming collections was dedicated to the golden age of TV. And now Sci Fi Wire has better quality images and more information about those stamps.

The set includes Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance, the Lone Ranger, Burns and Allen, Ozzie and Harriet, original Tonight Show host Steve Allen, Jackie Gleason and Art Carney, Alfred Hitchcock, Raymond Burr as Perry Mason, Jack Webb from Dragnet, Lassie, Red Skelton, Uncle Miltie, Dinah Shore, Groucho Marx, Phil Silvers, from the world of puppets, Kukla, Fran, and Ollie as well as Howdy Doody, William "Hopalong Cassidy" Boyd, and Rod Serling. »

Obscure Pa film to find: 1979's The Ravagers starring Richard Harris

The Ravagers is another in a long line of Hollywood backed Pa films from the 70s that, despite sporting some pretty big names, just seems to have disappear off the face of the earth. That's right folks. No DVD. Nadda. There was a VHS copy released in England ages ago but other than that the film has become something of a Pa legend over the years and a real coveted item for collectors.

The quality of the film itself is up there with another of the era, Ultimate Warrior which, like The Ravagers, starred big names like Max Von Sydow and Yul Brenner. A little dated maybe, but still great fun. That film was recently releases on DVD as part of a double feature with Montgomery Tully's Battle Beneath the Earth so I still have hopes that we'll see The Ravagers hit home video one day.

TV Sets: Forever Funny fetches a brilliant collection of shows to tickle the funny bone as a sampling of the comedic programs CBS has put out over time. Any collection that features Taxi, Cheers, The Odd Couple and Frasier is doing something right of the comedy front – but that’s only half the issue. Along with choosing the funniest shows possible, the funniest episodes of the series ought be selected as well. Instead, in an obvious attempt to encourage folks to start at the beginning, CBS has chosen the pilot episodes of each series. Once again, like in the TV Sets: Action Packed DVD, pilots are great for hooking an audience when the show is brand new – but these are classic shows that your average television viewer has seen at least a few episodes of.

Review: 'The Odd Couple' on DVD

You know the music. You know the set-up and you’ve seen it played out in countless variations.  Still, there is nothing like the original.  Paramount’s Centennial Collection continues today with two more classic releases, including Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple.

Based on his box office smash play (which in turn was inspired by his brother’s life), Neil Simon took the story of two mismatched divorced men trying to live together and made a sad state of affairs hilarious.

On Broadway, the inimitable Walter Matthau was matched with Art Carney, fresh from his run with Jackie Gleason, but for the film, Paramount exec Robert Evans went for Jack Lemmon, who played previously with Matthau in The Fortune Cookie. On screen, the two had chemistry in spaces and it was necessary to make this work.  One is a sports writer slob, the other a high-strung metrosexual (long before the word existed) news writer. »

Batman: The Brief Return of Classic 1960s Villains on Brave and the Bold

In 1966, Batman was an overnight sensation. Starring Adam West and Burt Ward, the series ran for 120 episodes. Kids liked the action while parents enjoyed the campy satire.

While villains like Riddler (Frank Gorshin, John Astin), Joker (Cesar Romero), Catwoman (Julie Newmar, Earth Kitt), Penguin (Burgess Meredith), Egghead (Vincent Price), Mr. Freeze (George Sanders, Otto Preminger, Eli Wallach) and King Tut (Victor Buono) made multiple appearances, many only appeared once or twice.

Lesser-seen villains include Zelda the Great (Anne Baxter), Mad Hatter (David Wayne), Bookworm (Roddy McDowall), Ma Parker (Shelley Winters), Black Widow (Tallulah Bankhead), Shame (Cliff Robertson), Siren (Joan Collins), Louie the Lilac (Milton Berle), False Face (Malachi Throne), The Clock King (Walter Slezak), The Archer (Art Carney), and Marsha, Queen of Diamonds (Carolyn Jones). Most of these characters were created specifically for the show and haven't been seen since -- until the new Batman The Brave and the Bold series. »
