Put It In The Rumor Pile:  Maggie Cheung Reportedly Appearing In Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards

17 November 2008 8:21 AM, PST | From TwitchFilm.net | See recent Twitch news

My thanks got out to long time regular Twitch reader Glenn for pointing out that Chinese website Crienglish is reporting that Hong Kong star Maggie Cheung - best known in these parts for her frequent collaborations with Wong Kar Wai - will have a minor role in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards.  Now, while I’ve generally been trying to stay clear of Bastards rumors and things - yes, there are a few set pictures of Brad Pitt and Daniel Bruehl out there if you go looking for them, no I’m not posting them - this is a pretty intriguing story.

Cheung is one of Hong Kong’s most respected actresses and has been out of the limelight for a good while.  I’m not sure where you would put her in to this sort of film but I’m sure if Tarantino thought he could get her - he’s an outspoken fan,

It stars Kate Winslet, Ralph Fiennes with upcoming German actor David Kross - who also starred alongside fellow German actor Daniel Brühl in Krabat (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0772181/). Krabat—Interview With Marco Kreuzpaintner and Daniel Brühl

18 October 2008 10:19 AM, PDT | From TwitchFilm.net | See recent Twitch news

Krabat, Marco Kreuzpaintner‘s film adaptation of Otfried Preußler‘s beloved bestselling novel Krabat (The Satanic Mill)—which sold over 2.1 million copies worldwide and has been translated into more than 30 languages—has come highly anticipated. Starring Daniel Brühl (Goodbye, Lenin!, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Edukators), Christian Redl (Downfall) and David Kross (Tough Enough, The Reader) in the lead role of Krabat, Kreuzpaintner’s film is a soul-stirring adventure for all ages that seizes the viewer with its atmospheric power, emotional truthfulness, and discreet SFX rather than CGI overload and arcane storylines. I had the good fortune of touching base with Kreuzpaintner and Brühl during the film’s international premiere at the 33rd Toronto International Film Festival. They startled me for arriving clean-cut to our scheduled interview without a trace of mud or grime. My thanks to Stephen Lan and Bavaria Film International (whose website provides a subtitled trailer) for arranging

First Look: Brad Pitt in 'Inglourious Basterds'

17 October 2008 10:37 AM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

Filed under: Fandom, Brad Pitt, Movie Marketing, Images

The first image of Brad Pitt from Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds has just arrived online (see below gallery and click to enlarge). In the film, Pitt plays Lt. Aldo Raine, who leads a group of Jewish-American soldiers during WWII called 'The Basterds'. For these men, their job is to track down and viciously murder Nazis in an attempt to provoke fear in the Third Reich. Basterds is currently in production in Germany, and stars Diane Kruger, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Daniel Brühl, Eli Roth, Samm Levine, B.J. Novak, Til Schweiger, Gedeon Burkhard, Paul Rust, Michael Bacall, Omar Doom, Sylvester Groth, Julie Dreyfus, Jacky Ido, August Diehl, Martin Wuttke, Richard Sammel, Christian Berkel, Sönke Möhring, Michael Fassbender, Mike Myers, Rod Taylor, Denis Menochet and Cloris Leachman.

Obviously they're wasting no time spreading hype for this flick (but will Tarantino have it done in time for Cannes,

Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds' Invades Germany

15 October 2008 4:22 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Quentin Tarantino has begun production on his exploitation/war epic Inglorious Bastards. Now, that's the last time I can use the correct spelling of those words in connection with this film, because Qt spells it Inglourious Basterds, an artistic decision (or editing omission) for which I find I have a very low tolerance.

Anyway, Basterds is currently filming, and enjoy this Love Boat-sized ensemble: Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Daniel Brühl, Eli Roth, Samm Levine, B.J. Novak, Til Schweiger, Gedeon Burkhard, Paul Rust, Michael Bacall, Omar Doom, Sylvester Groth, Julie Dreyfus, Jacky Ido, August Diehl, Martin Wuttke, Richard Sammel, Christian Berkel, Sönke Möhring, Michael Fassbender, Mike Myers, Rod Taylor, Denis Menochet and apparently, Cloris by God Leachman. I would so love it if Cloris Leachman has a cameo as Frau Blücher.

The last we heard, the hope is still to have this done in time for Cannes

Stuff and Things: October 14th, 2008

14 October 2008 7:02 PM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

Here's a round-up of some stuff (and things) currently causing waves online:

-- Word has it the first full length trailer for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek will debut in front of [insert popular film here] this November. TrekMovie claims it will be a "real trailer" with actual "footage from the film." Imagine that! If it does indeed premiere in November, the most likely place for it will be before Quantum of Solace on November 14th. In a related piece, Abrams has confirmed the running time to be about two hours.

-- Principal photography on Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds (new spelling) has begun in Germany (see initial poster to the right), and what appears to be the full, final cast has been announced (and it includes some familiar Tarantino regulars). Joining Brad Pitt will be Diane Kruger, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Daniel Brühl, Eli Roth, Samm Levine, B.J. Novak, Til Schweiger, Gedeon Burkhard,

Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds Starts Shooting in Germany

14 October 2008 6:09 PM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

The Weinstein Company announced today that Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds officially began principal photography last week in Germany. First things first, it looks like Tarantino will forever change the way we spell "bastards", because the misspelling in this is intentional and that's the official title of the film. Additionally, the full ensemble cast has been finalized and features over 26 big names, obviously headlined by Brad Pitt. A poster for the film has also been floating around for quite some time and it seems like a bit of fake, but we'll add it to the big update on Inglourious Basterds today anyway. We've included the full press release below, for those interested in reading all the fine print. Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds began principal photography last week on location in Germany. The ensemble cast of Inglourious Basterds includes Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Daniel Brühl, Eli Roth,

Tiff 08: Review of Krabat

10 September 2008 9:42 AM, PDT | From QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news

It is sometimes hard to review a movie that does everything very well but that just does not connect. The German fable Krabat is one such movie. David Kross is Krabat a young beggar who at the end of the 30 Years war in German answers a call from a dark sorcerer, played by Christian Redl. He is given a chance to be one of the 12 apprentices for the sorcerer. Krabat works hard and is accepted into the ranks and on the night of his initiation he is told by fellow apprentice Tonda, played by Daniel Brühl to leave as everything isn't as it seems. Also on this night he finds out that Tonda has fallen in love with one of the local village girl and he himself meets a girl and falls for her immediately. Tonda tells him to never let the sorcerer know the girls name as she will be killed by him.

Til Schweiger is a 'Bastard' too

2 September 2008 1:32 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

I don’t know how many articles I recently posted about the casting process of “Inglorious Bastards,” but it sure feels like quite a lot.

The latest to join the pack of Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming WWII drama is no other than German star actor-director Til Schweiger, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Schweiger is set to star as a member of a Nazi killer team. Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Mike Myers, Michael Fassbender and B.J. Novak co-star.

Now, the article also mentions Daniel Brühl, who’s apparently also on board. I have to admit I missed that one.

Although Schweiger is not exactly a Hollywood regular, he’s had his share of appearances in major blockbusters. Acting credits include “King Arthur,” “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” and “Driven.”

Shooting is scheduled to begin Oct. 13 in Germany. We’ll keep you posted.
