Rory Bremner has announced that he will not be taking over from Des O'Connor as the host of Countdown. The 47-year-old comedian had been named as the favourite to land the job after O'Connor announced that he was quitting in July. Bremner has now confirmed that he was pleased to be approached by producers of the Channel 4 game show, but will not be accepting their offer. "Countdown is a unique show with a very loyal audience and for that reason, I felt that they needed someone who was part of the Countdown family, like Jo Brand," Bremner told MediaGuardian.co.uk. "It was great to be asked, but I was worried I would fail the physical!" (more)

Comedian Rory Bremner is the favourite to succeed Des O'Connor as host of Countdown, according to reports. It has also been claimed that Carol Vorderman's future on the show is in doubt - despite bookies giving odds of 8-1 on the long-time co-host taking over the main presenter role.
