We're ridiculously excited about Legion, wherein Paul Bettany plays the Archangel Michael, opening up a can of whoop-ass on the heavenly hosts in order to safeguard humanity from a vengeful God. And our excitement has only increased with these rather nice new character banners over on JoBlo.com.Here we get Paul Bettany as Michael and Kevin Durrand as bad guy (insofar as that's possible for an archangel) Gabriel. Also present and correct are the human also-rans: Dennis Quaid's Bob Hanson, Lucas Black's Jeep Hanson, Tyrese Gibson as Kyle Williams and Adrianne Palicki as Charlie, the pregnant waitress whose unborn child is the Second Coming and the only being that can save the world. Click the image above for the full gallery on JoBlo.com Legion is out on March 5, 2010, which by our count is not nearly soon enough. »

The title says it all really doesn’t it? The new posters premiered over at JoBlo, but of course being a huge Paul Bettany fan, and loving the idea of Legion, I had to post them for you dear reader.
Each character poster features a member of the cast – Paul Bettany, Dennis Quaid, Adrianne Palicki, Lucas Black, Tyrese and Kevin Durand, and for those eagle eyed readers out there – yes each poster makes up a biblical quote from Matthew 13:49 which reads:
So it will be at the end of the age the angels will come forth to take out the wicked and throw them into the furnace of fire.
Check them out below in our gallery and as always, click to enlarge!

In its promotion effort, "Legion" unleashes six new character banners through Joblo. Each of the posters highlights on some of the main characters, namely Dennis Quaid's Bob Hanson, Adrianne Palicki's Charlie, Paul Bettany's the archangel Michael, Lucas Black's Jeep Hanson, Tyrese Gibson's Kyle Williams and Kevin Durand's the archangel Gabriel.
While the fresh banners are separate pieces of art, each of them contains partial biblical quotation of Matthew 13:49. Hence, if combined together in the correct order, they will spell out, "So it will be at the end of the age the angels will come forth to take out the wicked and throw them into the furnace of fire."

Six new badass posters of some of the characters from Scott Stewart's upcoming angels vs. angels smackdown Legion showed up online today, and they also come with a message.
Arrow in the Head snagged the exclusive look at the posters, which, when viewed together, spell out the following ominous quote: "So it will be at the end of the age the angels will come forth to take out the wicked and throw them into the furnace of fire."
We've heard a lot already from two of the guys who are in the flick (Dennis Quaid and Paul Bettany) so I thought it appropriate to show off Adrianne Palicki ("Supernatural", "Friday Night Lights") in full-on warrior mode. There haven’t been a ton of trailers this year that have genuinely put a smile on my face. The red-band trailer for “Legion,” however, was one of them. I don’t know if everything I smiled at was the desired reaction, however I smiled and that means I’m going to see the film. Anyhow, some new banner images have just been revealed for “Legion,” and they look pretty decent. Amongst them Charles S. Dutton does not appear, and that doesn’t speak too well for the mortality of his character. Hit the jump to see them:
Here’s the synopsis:
The lord is unhappy with us, and he plans to end us by enforcing the Apocalypse. However, mankind has a savior, and it is the unborn child of an incredibly sexy waitress (Adrianne Palicki) from Podunk, Desert (not a real place, as of yet.). Lucky for us not »

Indie Roundup invites you to relive the last seven days and look forward to the near future in the ever-diverse indie film world.
Deals. A big buzz title at Toronto was the most notable deal of the week. Aaron Schneider's Get Low, starring Bill Murray, Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, and Lucas Black, sold to Sony Pictures Classics for distribution in North America, according to our friends at indieWIRE. Scott Weinberg called it "an excellent little dramatic piece that's awash in humanity, warmth, insight, and wit." Details on several other deals that were made, all related to the Toronto fest, can be found at indieWIRE.
Online / On-Demand Viewing. Even less-publicized fest films are getting out into circulation. Hailing from Chile, Scrambled Beer (Malta Con Huevo) premiered at SXSW in 2008, and is now available for free streaming exclusively at Babelgum. Sony Pictures Classics has picked up two films at the Toronto International Film Festival. The first is "Get Low" starring Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Bill Murray and Lucas Black. The project's based on the true story of Felix "Bush" Breazeale (Robert Duvall), a recluse in Tennessee who planned his own funeral in 1938 while he was still alive and could enjoy it. Bill Murray plays the undertaker who helps him pull it off. "Lebanon" won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and was a hit at Toronto. The film takes place almost entirely... »

I wasn't going to add Robert Duvall to my Oscar prediction tracking until a studio acquired his Toronto Film Festival favorite Get Low, but it seems Sony Pictures Classics has taken care of that for me as they have added Aaron Schneider's debut film to their upcoming slate making for their second big acquisition of the day following the earlier announcement of their pick-up of the Israeli feature Lebanon. I brought up all the acclaim surrounding Get Low in my most recent Oscar update as Toronto Festival press were eating up Duvall's performance as a Tennessee hermit named Felix Bush who decides to throw his own funeral party while he's still alive and also stars Bill Murray, Lucas Black and Sissy Spacek. There is chatter that both Murray and Spacek may have a shot at an Oscar bid along with Duvall who appears to really be a major contender based on talk. »

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American rights to Oscar-winning short-filmmaker Aaron Schneider’s debut feature, "Get Low," starring Robert Duvall.
The film, an offbeat comedy about a Southern hermit who plans a bash for his own funeral, stars Duvall, Bill Murray, Sissy Spacek and Lucas Black.
"Get Low" premiered at this month's Toronto International Film Festival as a Gala Presentation. Variety said the "tale of forgiveness and redemption manages the difficult feat of being at once understated and vigorous in its confident storytellin... »

- Making it two for two on this post-tiff Monday, Sony Pictures Classics have acquired the rights to Aaron Schneider’s feature debut - a picture that I had little affection for, but this backwoods 30's dramedy managed to find some strong critical support from Variety and Indiewire's Anne Thompson and even bud Alex Billington from Firstshowing was charmed. I did like the original premise of the "funeral before death" but didn't much care for the classical treatment of the period piece. Get Low takes no risks, unless you consider that Bill Murray was added to the line-up. Spc will be looking to grab a large segment of the movie going public if they can sell this as a heart-felt comedy with a funny old hermit - they'll probably pitch/promote this as Robert Duvall's perf as a worthy candidate for awards season...think 2011. Screen Gems' January 22, 2010 release Legion arrives with an army of furious angels, a director with an extensive FX background (Scott Stewart) and an ensemble cast that includes Paul Bettany, Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Doug Jones, Charles S. Dutton, Lucas Black and Adrianne Palicki. It's an apocalyptic frenzy over a decade in the making, believe it or not. The original script was penned in the '90s by Hollywood editor Peter Schink and, since then, it traded multiple hands before landing at Screen Gems. I reconnected with Peter recently to get the lowdown on Legion 's past. Oh, and in case you haven't heard about the film's plot, it concerns a group of people holed up in a diner defending themselves from gun-wielding angels who have been sent to Earth to wipe out mankind.... »

Reporting on an event like Tiff from the comfort of my own home is frustrating. There's the drive to learn as much about all the new films as possible, without learning too much and unavoidably pre-judging the films before actually seeing them. But some reviews just have to be read. I'd been curious about the Greek film Dogtooth since it debuted at Cannes, where it went on to win in the Un Certain Regard sidebar. And Get Low, which unites Robert Duvall, Bill Murray, Sissy Spacek and Lucas Black, just sounded like a great little flick. Now both movies are earning great notes out of Toronto. Dogtooth has a distribution deal and Robert Duvall's performance in Get Low is the one everybody seems to be talking about. Dogtooth, the second feature by Yorgos Lanthimos, got my attention in May based on a few Cannes reviews and a Nsfw trailer, »
