Mary Tamm - former Time Lady Romana during the Tom Baker era of Doctor Who - has been busy this year, releasing her first autobiography and appearing in EastEnders in the late summer. Speaking to Digital Spy, Tamm - who played Romana during the 1978 Key to Time season - revealed she would like to be asked back to EastEnders, and continue the plot between her character Orlenda and affable Charlie Slater (Derek Martin). David Tennant has travelled through time to top a list of the U.K's most popular Doctor Who stars in the sci-fi show's 46 year history.
The Scottish actor has played the Time Lord in the cult BBC series since 2005, taking over from acclaimed star Christopher Ecclestone.
And his five-year run, which ends in 2010 when newcomer Matt Smith takes over, is the viewers' favourite - he won almost 26 per cent of votes from readers of Doctor Who magazine.
Tennant says, "I am so proud of this."
Other actors to have played the famous character include Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee. There have been 11 incarnations of the Doctor, including Smith, since the show first aired in 1963. »

When I heard that Tom Baker was recording a new series of Doctor Who CD releases for BBC Audiobooks, I almost fell over. I certainly had to sit down. With Paul Magrs writing the script, a cast that co-stars Richard Franklin (a replacement for the originally intended Nicholas Courtney) as former Unit captain Mike Yates and superb cover art (conceived by Anthony Dry and realised by Ben Wilsher), The Hornet’s Nest series of audio adventures for the Fourth Doctor represent the first time... »

If you're anywhere near a radio at 4pm today, tune in to Radio 4's Last Word, where you'll catch Tom Baker reading an obituary to the late Doctor Who producer Barry Letts, who died last week. Letts was responsible for the casting of the Fourth Doctor, one of his last major tasks as producer of the series, and also oversaw Tom Baker's first appearance, Robot before handing over the reins of the show after 5 years to Philip Hinchcliffe. The 28 minute broadcast is a regular weekly show which... »

The Caves of Androzani has been voted the top Doctor Who TV tale in a new poll.
The story gained the highest score in a poll in Doctor Who Magazine, in which 6,700 people took part.
It aired in four episodes in March 1984 and marked the last appearance of 5th Doctor Peter Davison and the first appearance of the 6th incarnation played by Colin Baker.
As the Doctor regenerated, he was asked by companion Peri Brown what was happening and replied: "Change, my dear, and it seems not a moment too soon..."
Davison told the magazine: "As I think David Tennant will be finding out now, it's a traumatic experience to leave Doctor Who, even if it's your own decision. So I didn't really watch Doctor Who after I left, until it came back, of course - and I always thought it would."
On the Androzani storyline he said: "It was »

Every once in a while, the British television show Doctor Who is revamped. This is usually done by replacing the lead actor and his supporting crew. However, it is also done by changing the logo of the series. As a result, certain logos are associated with certain eras. Yesterday, the BBC has revealed on their website the logo to be associated with the Matt Smith era of the show. They also have a video of the historical logos of the show.
I don't have a particular favorite logo, although I liked both the "diamond" logo of the 70's, most closely associated with Tom Baker's era, and the "neon" logo of the 80's, which spanned three Doctors (Tom Baker, Peter Davison and Colin Baker). The current one isn't bad either with the cylinder thing with pointy ends (what is that shape called?).

Truth be told, Dr. Who has been one of those shows that I should watch but never did . Filled with sci-fi whimsy and British-ness, the long-running BBC series has seen so many different Whos and reboots, I have no idea where to begin.
If you’re like me, the BBC isn’t going to help you since they’ve given Dr. Who a brand new cast and logo for their upcoming 2010 season. The new season is said to have a retro feel which would hearken back to the Tom Baker-era of Who minus the scarf…and hair…and funkay vibe.
The new production is currently being produced in Wales and the pictures show Matt Smith taking over the reigns of the 11th incarnation of The Doctor with the lovely Amy Pond playing his Scottish companion.
I know what you’re thinking and, yes, I like the outfit too.

Doctor Who has had many logo changes in the past and Tuesday sees the unveiling of a brand new look for the show! We've had the old 1960s swapping from monochrome sans serif to monochrome serif type; the boldness of the Pertwee era logo; the famous diamond logo that accompanied Tom Baker; the neon brassiness of the early 1980s; the CGI/Cbbc horror of the McCoy years and the long standing rebirth of the Pertwee logo with a shiny chrome look accompanying everything Doctor Who shaped between... »

"Their unswerving loyalty. Their good taste. Their Blind Love." Apparently, this is what makes Doctor Who fans different - so says Tom Baker, and who are we to argue? Speaking to the BBC about his comeback in the Hornet's Nest series, Tom - who originally played the Doctor from 1974-1981 also revealed why he said yes to the project after years of apparent refusals. Tom Baker has hailed the taste of Doctor Who fans and praised the formula of the show for its ongoing success. The actor made the comments to the BBC in an interview celebrating his return to the series in five-part audio adventure Doctor Who: Hornets' Nest. When asked what makes fans of the programme different, he replied: "Their unswerving loyalty. Their good taste. Their Blind Love. "The formula is so good. Benevolent alien, a being with secrets. A sonic screwdriver, but I'm sworn to secrecy by the BBC. They pay me 30 pieces of silver every month to be discreet." Regarding his return (more) »

In case you hadn't spotted the link in the lower left corner of the Kasterborous website, Doctor Who #4 Tom Baker himself recently took the time to answer some questions put to him by editor Christian Cawley and occasional Kasterborous contributor Gareth Kavanagh. This was of course a huge delight for us, and while it's little more than a short question and answer session with The Great Man, he gave us a fantastic set of answers to questions covering the internet, The Boy Who Kicked Pigs,... »

Now here's a gift for Kasterborous readers - the Fourth Doctor himself, Tom Baker, recently granted us a short Q&A session! As the invitation was something of a dream come true, and dribbling aimlessly with excitement, we threw some questions around until we came up with the following... There’s a lot of anticipation for Hornet’s Nest, how does it feel to centre of attention again? Do you feel the weight of expectation? Sure I do. But the story is good and I feel pretty... »

Author Thomas Wolfe told us you can’t go home again. That certainly hasn’t stopped a lot of folks from trying.
After an absence of nearly 30 years, Tom Baker finally returned to the role of the Doctor in the five-part, six-hour BBC full-cast Doctor Who audio play, Hornet’s Nest. The first part, The Stuff of Nightmares, was released in Britain earlier this month and is available from www.audible.com and www.emusic.com.
Of course, Doctor Who fans are so hard to please they make Star Trek fans look like they’ve had a Vulcan neck pinch. So how does the most long-lived and long-scarfed Doctor hold up after such a long layoff?
First, I should point out that the story, like Baker himself, is witty, charming, horrific, and over-the-top. If you don’t like that, you probably don’t like Baker. Here’s the high concept: »
