Another 'Tarzan' Movie Swinging Into Theaters

3 September 2008 4:30 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Hollywood is sucking the last remaining bits of dried blood of the bones of Tarzan, with Variety detailing the negotiations for a big screen update of the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs character. According to the report, Warner Bros., producer Jerry Weintraub, and director Stephen Sommers are teaming up, with Sommers banging out the screenplay with Stuart Beattie. The two just wrapped production on G.I. Joe.

The Tarzan movie is nothing new; Warner Bros. and Weintraub have been slowly developing the project for five years. At that time, John August was supposed to write the script, and then two years back, Guillermo del Toro was discussing the project with the studio.

Tarzan Returns to the Big Screen

3 September 2008 8:45 AM, PDT | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

Tarzan is returning to the Big Screen but not as an animated musical sequel from Disney but a played-for-straight adventure from Warner Bros, and director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy). Variety reports this morning that Sommers and Stuart Beattie will be co-writing the screenplay. The duo last worked together on 2009’s G.I. Joe film for Paramount, which recently completed lensing.

Producer Jerry Weintraub has been trying to mount a new live-action version of Tarzan since 2003, working from a screenplay by John August (Shazam!) and at one point Guillermo del Toro was in talks to direct the film.

Ever since Edgar Rice Burroughs first wrote about his man raised by the apes in 1912, it has been repeatedly interpreted for serials, movies, radio, television and comic books. Burroughs penned some 23 books featuring his character in addition to creating other fantastic realms and characters including John carter, Warlord of Mars and Pellucidar.  While

The Shazam Movie: A Few Answers Spark More Questions

29 June 2008 11:21 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

If you haven’t heard, Peter Segal, director of the upcoming Shazam movie, recently let it be known that a script for the film isn’t even done being written by scribes John August and William Goldman, largely due to the WGA strike.

Now, we could all sit around complaining about why Shazam isn’t moving ahead quickly enough, but I propose a more stimulating solution: what do You think Shazam should be?

I mean, this isn’t Superman we’re talking about here: most of the people who will pack into theaters however many summers from now to see this flick, will Still be thinking that they’re seeing a movie about a guy who’s just like Superman, only with red tights instead of blue, named Shazam. Fights in the audience will potentially break out because some popcorn-grubbing philistine fails to use the term “Capitan Marvel.”

However, the

Is Tim Burton Directing Johnny Depp's Dark Shadows?!

2 June 2008 6:29 PM, PDT | From iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news

Johnny Depp's film company Infinitum-Nihil along with Graham King's Gk Films and Warner Bros has been planning a new feature version of Dark Shadows based on the classic television series. Iesb.net recently spoke with Get Smart director Peter Segal who may have let slip who's involved in this new Dark Shadows incarnation. Segal is currently working with writer John August on Billy Batson And The Legend Of Shazam (based on the Dc comics superhero) and while talking about that project said, "August is jumping back and forth between Tim Burton's Dark Shadows and his Shazam script trying to work on both films at the same time due to a back log of work after the writers' strike earlier this year."

So, as of now, it seems that John August is writing the Dark Shadows script for Tim Burton to direct! Will Johnny Depp take the role of Barnabus Collins?
