L.A. Law: Was Blair Underwood's Character Based on Barack Obama?

5 November 2008 4:02 PM, PST | From TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news

Now that the presidential election is over, it's time to put to rest one of the campaign's stranger urban legends. Was Blair Underwood's L.A. Law character based on a young Barack Obama?

L.A. Law debuted on September 15, 1986. The NBC series was created by prolific Steven Bochco (Hill Street Blues) and gave a big break to David E. Kelley, the talented writer who later created legal shows like Ally McBeal, The Practice, and Boston Legal. In its day, L.A. Law was a cornerstone of NBC's mega-successful Thursday night line-up. Following a group of lawyers at a Los Angeles law firm, the series showcases actors like Corbin Bernsen, Jill Eikenberry, Alan Rachins, Michael Tucker, Richard Dysart, Larry Drake, Susan Ruttan, Susan Dey, Jimmy Smits, Harry Hamlin, Michele Greene, John Spencer, Sheila Kelley, and Amanda Donohoe.

Blair Underwood joined the show's cast in season two as a young hotshot black attorney named Jonathan Rollins.

Underwood's Family Movies

29 September 2008 5:15 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor Blair Underwood is so hooked on showbusiness, he spends family vacations shooting home movies with his kids.

The Dirty Sexy Money star steps behind the camera to direct his wife Desiree, sons Paris, 11, and Blake, seven, and nine-year-old daughter Brielle, as they travel around the globe.

He reveals to Ok! magazine, "We shoot movies 'on location'. The kids write and star in them, and I direct them. We do posters and soundtracks too."

And he admits the process has given Brielle the acting bug: "The boys couldn't care less, but my daughter is into it. We were shooting a scene in Rome, and she said to me, 'Can I get an agent and do this for real?' Oh man."

A Prize Fight

17 July 2008 9:23 PM, PDT | From NYPost.com | See recent New York Post news

The Emmy awards changed the plot completely yesterday.

Nominations for TV's highest awards were announced yesterday and, for the first time, cable TV - not the traditional broadcast shows - rocked the house.

"This was the watershed breakthrough year for the Emmys," says Tom O'Neil of online awards site theenvelope.com.

"Networks like Showtime, AMC and FX didn't just get into the race - they knocked the door down!"

Dramas like "Mad Men," "Dexter" and "Damages" humbled more highly rated shows like "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" which

1 July 2008 4:25 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

A few more of those wonderful shortlists of nominees for the upcoming Emmy awards are out, and once again, genre fans will have to basically settle for a "Lost" fix. Michael Emerson and Naveen Andrews, who play Ben Linus and Sayid respectively in the ABC series, have made an expanded list of finalists to be Emmy nominees in the supporting drama actor category, joining the likes of Bruce Dern from "Big Love," Christian Clemenson from "Boston Legal," Ted Danson from "Damages," Zeljko Ivanek from "Damages," T.R. Knight from "Grey's Anatomy," William Shatner from "Boston Legal," John Slattery from "Mad Men," Blair Underwood from "In Treatment" and Jake Weber from "Medium." There was absolutely no love for genre shows in the supporting actress category in drama, but in terms ...

Hatcher Snubbed By Emmys

1 July 2008 12:02 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher has been snubbed by the Emmy Awards - with three of her castmates competing for the Best Comedy Actress Award without her.

Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria Parker have all been shortlisted for the prestigious prize at this year's TV awards - but Hatcher's name was noticeably missing from the semi-finalists.

Website GoldDerby.com reveals that the other actresses vying to take home the award include America Ferrera, Tina Fey, Christina Applegate, Mary-Louise Parker, Sarah Silverman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel.

Also announced were the top ten stars who will compete in the Best Supporting Drama Actor category. Last year's winner Lost star Terry O'Quinn was missing from the list, which was led by his castmates Naveen Andrews and Michael Emerson.

Other actors to be shortlisted include William Shatner, Ted Danson and T.R. Knight. Also competing in the category are Christian Clemenson, Bruce Dern, Zeljko Ivanek, John Slattery, Blair Underwood and Jake Weber.

The awards will be handed out on 6 September.

Propects for Emmy acting awards

From drama, comedy and miniseries, these actors are up for the part.

By Tom O'Neil, The Envelope

June 4, 2008

Emmy's winners for acting are chosen in a three-tier system by actors who belong to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. During the first two weeks of June, they participate in a popular vote that determines a Top 10 runoff in each race. Finalists submit a sample episode of their best work to judges, whose scores are combined by accountants in a 50-50 mix with results of the original popular vote. The five nominees in each category are then announced July 17. Winners are decided based on judges' scores of the sample episodes and are revealed at the awards ceremony to
