Rescue Me: Denis Leary TV Show to End in 2011, No Season Eight

29 August 2009 4:26 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

FX has decided to end their Rescue Me series after seven seasons and 93 episodes. The show will go out as it began; closely tied to the events of 9/11.

Rescue Me follows Denis Leary as a hard-living New York fireman who balances the challenges of his stressful job and crazy personal life. The series also features the talents of Diane Farr, Adam Ferrara, Mike Lombardi, James McCaffrey, Jack McGee, Tatum O'Neal, Steven Pasquale, Andrea Roth, John Scurti, Daniel Sunjata, Larenz Tate, Callie Thorne, and Dean Winters.

Though it's still a high-profile show for FX, Rescue Me's numbers aren't nearly as strong as they once were. The first two seasons averaged about 2.7 million viewers per episode. The fifth season has been averaging about 1.4 million and 914,000 in the 18-49 demographic. Variety reports that's a 38% decline from season four.

The drop in viewership likely comes as a result of the show being off »

"It's not easy dealing with a Gavin!" Rescue Me star Larenz Tate tells TVGuide.com. Truer words were never spoken. Tate's alter ego, Black Shawn, still has a wild relationship with Colleen Gavin (Natalie Distler). And last week he endured a decidedly un-p.C. hose-down from her father, Tommy (Denis Leary). It's just going to get more dramatic this week when Shawn attends a Gavin family dinner at the request of Colleen's sister. Tate offers a preview of what's to come.

TV Review: Denis Leary Continues to Shine on Consistent ‘Rescue Me’

7 April 2009 8:51 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Television Rating: 3.5/5.0 Chicago – Denis Leary, Peter Tolan, and Evan Reilly were forced to take a lot of time between “Rescue Me” seasons due to the writer’s strike but they’re back with an amazing 22-episode season planned for FX starting tonight, April 7th, 2009 at 9pm Cst. Seamlessly picking up where we left off, “Rescue Me” continues to entertain and maintain its tricky balance between goofy comedy and deadly serious subjects.

Not much has changed for Tommy Gavin (Leary). He’s still dealing with the ghosts of 9/11, still trying to keep his job on the 62 Truck, still battling alcoholism, still barely keeping his fragile relationships with his family together, and still dealing with crazy ex-girlfriends.

The fifth season of “Rescue Me” opens just after the death of Tommy’s father (Charles Durning) at the end of season four. With most of ex-wife issues resolved, his »

7 April 2009 5:44 AM, PDT | Latemag.com/film | See recent LateFilmFull news »

"Urban" cinema tends to mean black cinema or cinema reflecting a "Ghetto" experience often from a youthful perspective. So I will that as a rough guide and then narrowing it down to crime related and violent features I'm going to look at some of the best from this "Genre", if it can really be called a genre.

1. La Haine (1995) Directed by Mathieu Kassovitz

La Haine is arguably the best "Urban" film ever made, certainly the most politically charged and the one with the most impacting ending. French Jewish director Mathieu Kassovitz may have gone on to make the crappy Gothica, but in 1995 he made the best film of the year. So the top film on my list is not American as you would expect, but French. In fact as far as I am aware, a decade after its release the film which took won best director and was nominated for »
