Paramount's Carriers is coming to rental DVD on December 8th, 2009, from Paramount Home Entertainment with a full DVD release expected in four to six weeks afterwards.
Co-starring Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly), Emily VanCamp (“Brothers & Sisters”), and Emmy®-nominee Chris Meloni (“Law and Order: Svu”), Carriers is a terrifying journey into a world where laws and rules no longer apply and no one can be trusted – not even your friends. The film was written and directed by Alex and David Pastor.
Synopsis
A deadly virus has spread across the globe. Contagion is everywhere, no one is safe, and no one can be trusted. Four young attractive people race through the back roads of the American West to the pounding beat of a vacation soundtrack. Their aim is to retreat to a secluded Utopian beach in the Gulf of Mexico, where they could peacefully wait out the pandemic and survive the apocalyptic disease. »

The poll results are arriving a day late this week due to yesterday's glut of comic book movie news, but we're not ones to complain about a good thing when it comes to updates on projects like "Thor," "Iron Man 2" and "Spider-Man 4." However, it's an entirely different sort of comic book movie that we asked fans to cast last week—and much like our Wonder Woman poll from a while back, the winner of our "Lobo" casting poll has a loyal fan following that played no small part in determining the winner.
In the end, former "Thor" hopeful James Preston Rogers was named MTV readers' favorite choice for the role of DC's Main Man, Lobo. The musclebound actor is probably best known for his role as a hulking barbarian in the vikings-vs-aliens film "Outlander," but he was also the subject of an extremely active fan campaign to cast him »

Now it’s official. Law & Order: Svu is on the crazy train, jumping tracks and stranding passengers in Nowheresville. Some of us (okay, mainly me) carped about Christine Lahti’s role as fill-in Ada Sonya Paxton from the beginning. When she wasn’t belittling Stabler (Christopher Meloni) she was sneering at Benson (Mariska Hargitay) or taunting suspects, all the while teary-eyed and callow. The character was inconsistent, insulting, and insufferable. Wednesday night we learned it was all, theoretically, because she’s a lush. Oh, let us rewind this one, because there was plenty to gnash at in this episode appropriately titled “Hammered. »

Lobo first roared into the DC Universe way back in 1983, and the "Main Man" has been fraggin' anyone who looks at him funny ever since. Originally created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen as the natural evolution of antiheroes like Wolverine and Punisher, Lobo was recently tagged for solo movie treatment courtesy of director Guy Ritchie. So the question becomes: who can bring the "Ultimate Bastich" to life on the big screen?
Early last month, we gave you our picks for who should play Lobo, and we followed up with actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan today regarding his willingness to portray the baddest of DC's good guys. But now it's your turn!
I've compiled a list of our picks for the role, as well as actors suggested by Splash Page readers. From Christopher Meloni and Danny Trejo to Ron Perlman and Vinnie Jones, now's your chance to vote for the actor »

A new batch of images from “The Stepfather” remake opening this Friday. The film stars that kid from The CW’s “Gossip Girl” show and that nice guy from The FX Channel’s “Nip/Tuck”, only here the nice guy ain’t all that nice. He’s practically evil. Murderously so, as it turns out. But really, when you’re trying to make the perfect family, what’s a little slaughter or two? The man’s just trying to strive for the American Dream, after all. Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) returns home from military school to find his mother (Sela Ward) happily in love and living with her new boyfriend, David (Dylan Walsh). As the two men get to know each other, Michael becomes more and more suspicious of the man who is always there with a helpful hand. Is he really the man of her dreams or could David be hiding a dark side? »

Come on, people, you never leave the perp with Wentworth Miller! That’s Article 96, Section 242, Clause 3 of the Procedural Code! Wait, wait. Before we get too shouty about last night’s Law & Order: Svu, let’s call the meeting to order and go over some Beat Cop business. At our last meeting, commenter Judy Woodruff (let’s just assume that’s an alias, and the PBS anchor is way busy with actual news) asked if we’re going to loop Southland (tonight at 9 on NBC) into our discussions. This brings up an excellent point, Coppers: What counts as a procedural? »

Actor Elias Koteas might be best-known to Splash Page readers for his role as Casey Jones in the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movies, but when we were getting ready to speak to him about his upcoming film "Defendor" with Woody Harrelson, we noticed an interesting entry in his online resume. According to Wikipedia (not the most reliable source of information, we know), Koteas has a role in the live-action "Green Lantern" movie scheduled for release in 2011.
According to Koteas, the "Green Lantern" role is news to him.
"Am I in the movie?" asked Koteas when MTV Movies Editor Joshua Horowitz brought up the project's presence on his wiki-based resume.
After confirming that he hasn't heard a thing about the film, Koteas said that doesn't mean he wouldn't be willing to join the cast alongside star Ryan Reynolds.
"Sure, the more the better. I need the work," he laughed, adding, "Maybe they're confusing me with someone. »

For most of its running time, John Krasinski’s adaptation of David Foster Wallace’s short-story collection Brief Interviews With Hideous Men consists of little more than a series of monologues, and plays like some abstract theater exercise, hosted by a college coffeehouse. Except that this college is populated by the likes of Bobby Cannavale, Timothy Hutton, and Christopher Meloni—veteran actors each taking a turn embodying Krasinski’s careful reductions of Wallace’s loquacious bastards. And unlike the book, Krasinski’s adaptation has a single protagonist: Julianne Nicholson, playing a grad student who intends to examine the impact of ... »

This week, contrasting approaches to filmmaking bring about balance and equilibrium. Experimentalism (Sally Potter's "Rage" and Michael Almereyda's "Paradise") collides head on with tried and tested formulas (the Clive Owen starrer "The Boys Are Back" and a remake of "Fame").

Stanley Tucci adapts and stars in the second remake from the canon of slain Dutch director Theo Van Gogh, the first being Steve Buscemi's 2007 "Interview." A whimsical psychological tussle between a husband and wife who play games to patch up their marriage, the story hones in on the attempted romantic rediscovery between long-married Don (Tucci) and Jenna (Patricia Clarkson).

"Gossip Girl" star Penn Badgley gets all serious in the upcoming Screen Gems thriller "The Stepfather." He stars alongside Dylan Walsh and Sela Ward in this remake of the 1987 film of the same name.
When a man mysteriously comes into the lives of his single mother, Michael (Badgley) is suspicious. David (Walsh) seems very much a "family values" man and really interested with Michael's mother, Susan (Ward), but Michael suspects he is not quite the man he pretends to be.
As Michael starts to piece together the mystery of the man set to become his stepfather, he uncovers an ugly truth that may destroy the whole family.
Amber Heard, Christopher Meloni, Sherry Stringfield, Paige Turco, and Jon Tenney also star. Nelson McCormick directed by a script written by J.S. Cardone ("Prom Night").

MTV Splash Page has started up a weekly column where they fantasy-cast their favorite upcoming superhero movies. And since we here at Screen Rant have been on the “What If?” track for the last few Months with posts like “What If Disney/Marvel Buys Superman?” or “What Will Batman 3 Be About?“, we naturally have a reaction.
Last week we responded to the question of who should play Sinestro in the upcoming Green Lantern movie; MTV had a strong list of (albeit somewhat improbable) candidates, but still missed the obvious casting call of Hugo Weaving, which our Screen Rant readers jumped on in seconds (they’re good like that ).
With the recent announcement that Guy Ritchie will direct DC/WB’s Lobo movie, Splash Page is wondering who should get the role and after reviewing their picks…let’s just say a few names need to be added to the pool. »

The trailer for John Krasinski's directorial debut, an adaptation of David Foster Wallace's Brief Interviews With Hideous Men, is out today on Apple (and embedded below). Julie Nicholson plays a woman who, after her boyfriend leaves her with little explanation, dedicates her anthropological dissertation to figuring out what the hell is going on in mens' brains. Some of the men: Will Arnett, Dominic Cooper, Bobby Cannavale, Timothy Hutton, Christopher Meloni, Max Minghella, and Ben Shenkman. They've been embodied by a paper bag in the movie's poster because all of these men are just too hideous. IFC bought the film's distribution rights in July, long after the film premiered at Sundance. Hey, we were at Sundance! Krasinski chatted with Whitney Pastorek at length (in the spirit of Dfw) about why he saw strength in Nicholson's silence during most of her scenes, and how he survived a lengthy existential crisis as the project developed. »

Despite what the title and poster campaign suggest, the fear that Carriers attempts to inspire is not of attack by people infected by a virulent virus, but of catching that virus oneself, and how others respond to that circumstance. That makes this less a postapocalyptic horror film than a postapocalyptic drama in which icky corpses and almost-corpses turn up every so often, but the greatest threat comes from those who are healthy—for the moment, anyway.
Eschewing any sort of prologue explaining the hows and whys of the disease that has ravaged the United States, the movie (which is being given only a token theatrical release by Paramount Vantage) opens with four young survivors driving across the Southwestern desert. Brian (Star Trek’s Chris Pine) and Danny (Lou Taylor Pucci) are brothers, Bobby (Piper Perabo) is Brian’s main squeeze and Kate (Emily VanCamp), as both she and Danny make clear early on, »

Two fresh stills from "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" have been released. In an image, Wentworth Miller is snapped giving a serious look to the camera in what seems to be a police station. Another photo shows the "Prison Break" actor striking a pose with one of his female co-stars on the TV series.
On "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit", Miller stars as Nate Kendal, an NYPD officer who saves a rape victim and interacts with Christopher Meloni's Detective Elliot Stabler and Mariska Hargitay's Detective Olivia Benson. He will make a cameo on "Unstable", the first episode of the show's upcoming 11th season.
The hit NBC show follows the detectives of new elite force, the Special Victims Unit, who have a duty to investigate and prosecute various sexually oriented crimes while trying to balance the effects of the investigation on their own lives. The upcoming season of the »

"Sherlock Holmes" director Guy Ritchie is putting down the pipe and picking up the cigar for "Lobo," the upcoming adaptation of the popular DC Comics antihero produced by Warner Bros. Hot on the heels of directing "Iron Man" actor Robert Downey Jr., Ritchie seems to have developed the urge to dive into the comic book movie bin himself—but first, he'll need a leading man.
Casting Lobo is tricky, especially given the WB's description of the character as "a seven-foot tall, blue-skinned, indestructible and heavily muscled antihero." Even if enhanced effects are necessary in creating Lobo's onscreen persona, the character needs a tested actor underneath the make-up... and these five men could very well do the trick.
1. Vinnie Jones: Having already worked with Ritchie on "Snatch" and "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," actor Vinnie Jones already has a level of familiarity with the "Lobo" director that could pay off on screen. »

It’s been a relaxing break, but now it’s time to get back to work and dive right back into the files. This week’s full review is a little biological terror from 1985 known as Warning Sign. A preachy little number about the dangers of biological warfare, this film pulls no punches when it comes to paranoia and its “don’t trust the government” message.
Taking place in Any Midwestern Town America, Warning Sign is the story of a chemical spill that occurs in the wackiest of ways. Think The Stand if the biological spill was caused by sticky tape and The Three Stooges. Even though the film can be admired as an early example of rage zombie-like behavior, preachy dialogue, melodramatic leads, and lousy extras make the film almost unwatchable. Even more disappointing, despite having such a “progressive” message, the female leads are extremely weak. Also, for some »
