Location scouting on a new film in the Riddick franchise has begun in New Zealand says Vin Diesel's Facebook page. The post also indicates David Twohy has finished the script for the third film featuring the character. Diesel first played the gruff, sliver-eyed anti-hero Riddick in the well-received cult hit "Pitch Black" in 2000. Four years later he reprised the role in 2004's generally panned big-budget flop "The Chronicles Of Riddick". Diesel has also voiced the character in the animated short "Dark Fury" and the video games 'Escape from Butcher Bay' and 'Assault on Dark Athena'. Twohy has indicated the film will be an R-rated feature and more modestly budgeted along 'Pitch' lines which allows him and Vin more creative control.... »

Bulking up between Twilight and New Moon was a career-making move for Taylor Lautner. Not only did the added 30 pounds of muscle rescue his role in the vampire phenomenon, but the 17-year-old actor has signed to become a major action star.
Paramount Pictures has selected Lautner to star in Max Steel, a movie and character based on the Mattel toy launched in 1999. Variety reports the story is about an extreme sports junkie recruited by a secret agency after an accident infects his body with nanobots, making him superhuman.
Oh look, nanotechnology. That’s new in screenwriting. No one’s ever relied on that plot detail before. Wait a minute… Extreme sports. Secret agency. Unlikely hero. Max Steel is xXx, the Vin Diesel disaster of 2002! What is Paramount trying to pull here?
Nikki Finke confirms Lautner is starring, saying it will be a “four-quadrant popcorn movie” in the spirit of Iron Man. »

This news has been confirmed! According to Variety, Lautner has signed on to play Max Steel and the film is said to be in the same vein as Transformers. No director is attached yet.
Where do you go after stealing the hearts of every preteen girl and their mother as the purveyor of Team Jacob in the immensely successful Twilight Saga? Well simply put you get your self a franchisable action role so that dudes at least respect your and those girls can continue to cry and scream over your heartrob-ness.
Taylor Lautner also known as Jacob Black to many, since to them he is one in the same, is circling the popular Max Steel character to play him in a live-action version being developed by Paramount.
The Los Angeles Times, says that Lautner is looking to take on the role a big screen adaptation of the popular Mattle toy line. »

Last we heard anything about Riddick 3, Vin Diesel used his Facebook page to tell fans that a script from Chronicles of Riddick writer-director David Twohy was arriving in September. Recently, Diesel let his fans know that Twohy had finished the script, though that wasn't the only Diesel franchise that was getting another installment.
The Fast and Furious script is being written.... I appreciate Universal taking the time to make it right.
The Riddick script is completed ... great job Dt.
As for which movie will be made first, Diesel said that he "invited the studio" to visit the Facebook page and read fans comments in order to help decide "which film will be released in 2010." Looks like Riddick may have won the decision considering one of Diesel's latest posts:
The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already ... that's exciting.
Riddick and Fast & Furious aren't the only Diesel franchises currently in production. »

According to Vin Diesel’s Facebook page, the third Chronicles of Riddick film is about to get underway.
The “Chronicles of Riddick 3” is currently in pre-production and has already begun scouting locations in New Zealand.
Diesel’s Fb status update:

Diesel first played the gruff, sliver-eyed anti-hero Riddick in the well-received cult hit “Pitch Black” in 2000. Four years later he reprised the role in 2004’s generally panned big-budget flop “The Chronicles of Riddick“.
Diesel has also voiced the character in the animated short “Dark Fury” and the video games “Escape from Butcher Bay” and “Assault on Dark Athena“.
In August, director David Twohy (Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick, A Perfect Getaway) discussed that he’d sketched out two possible ideas for continuing the films and was working to get the third film in front of the »

Vin Diesel gives daughter Hania Riley, 20 months, a lift as he makes this way through security at the Los Angeles International Airport with his girlfriend, model Paloma Jimenez, on Friday.
Earlier this year, Vin, 42, explained how important it was for him to be in the delivery room with Paloma.
“[I] did everything but literally pull her out. I cut the umbilical cord. I was more present than I could ever have dreamed of, but the bonding that that allowed for with my daughter is priceless.”

To date, Vin Diesel.s plan for the mostly deceased Riddick franchise has been to talk about it as if a sequel will happen any minute, even though no such sequel exists. Or does it? Either he.s taken his Riddick delusions to new heights or a new Chronicles of Riddick really is going down since today he posted this update on his Facebook page: The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting. Couple of possibilities here. Maybe .The Riddick Team. is actually the name of some sort of circus stunt team Vin Diesel has recently joined and they.re planning to fly to New Zealand and jump over a bunch of sheep. Or maybe Vin has somehow confused .Riddick. with .Hobbit. and he.s actually talking about Peter Jackson.s new Middle Earth movie. Or maybe someone is actually funding a new Chronicles of Riddick »

Vin Diesel may be returning to the role that made him a star, if rumours that another Riddick movie is being prepped prove true. According to the gravel-voiced star's Facebook page: "the Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting". Perhaps Universal is looking to fill the franchise gap currently left by the faltering Bourne 4, or maybe Diesel and director David Twohy have got a killer concept. Pitch Black was a breakout hit for director and star, but sequel The Chronicles of...

Next to Todd McFarlane’s never-ending Spawn project, the third part in The Chronicles of Riddick sequel has to be one of the most anticipated non-moving projects ever. Having heard only tid-bits on the project for the past two years, Riddick 3 is one of those films that you almost forget was ever in the pipeline to begin with. However it looks like that could all be about to change as Vin Diesel confirms that they are now scouting locations for the shoot!
Making the announcement on this Facebook page, the 42-year-old actor posted just one sentence, announcing what Riddick fans have been waiting to hear since 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick:
The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting.
Fortunately, by the time filming begins I’ll be just a short $200 plane trip away from Nz in Melbourne, so I’ll definitely be waiting »

Not too long ago Vin Diesel used his Facebook page to inform fans of David Twohy’s Riddick films that the script for the proposed third movie had been completed. Diesel has now posted on his Facebook page:
“The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting.”
As a fan of both Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick I welcome the update, but at the same time I am only taking it with a grain of salt. The reason for this slight skepticism is that there have been so many issues regarding any future Riddick sequels/prequels that the apparent completed script and now location scouting seem a bit out of the blue. Hopefully the film has secured its budget and pre-production is in fact underway. »

If you're anything like me, then you definitely find lots to enjoy in the Vin Diesel/David Twohy Riddick films. They're pulpy and old-fashioned and they have a certain charm to them. I'm especially fond of the video game "Escape from Butcher Bay" they spawned. So if you're a fan, and you've been waiting for any little bit of news on another sequel... well, here's a little bit of news! It's only a nugget, but it feels pretty solid. Vin Diesel, gravelly voiced cheerleader for multiple ailing movie franchises, has announced on his Facebook page that at least some sort of pre-production is underway on a third Chronicle of Riddick."The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting." is the full status update. But it's significant in that it's the first we've heard of something solid actually happening on the project. The last we knew, back at the beginning of August, came from Pitch Black and Chronicles director David Twohy. He said some ideas were being thrown around, and that the expense and studio concessions of Chronicles were a mistake, leading part three back to much smaller-scale territory. But he also suggested that a smaller budget might be a problem for Diesel, who apparently doesn't get out of bed for less than his usual fee. Has »

There's a lot going on in the horror world right now, a welcome change for the traditionally bland month of December. Below the jump you'll find quick updates from around the web and the trades for True Blood, Night Of The Living Dead: Origins, Daybreakers, The Chronicles Of Riddick 3, Zombieland 2, Invasion, [Rec] 3, Resident Evil: Afterlife, and more.
Castings:
True Blood has gained a new werewolf and a new vampire. THR announced that Ugly Betty's Grant Fowler has joined the cast as a werewolf named Coot, with newcomer Theo Alexander as Talbot, an "intensely beautiful" vampire. This comes just a day after Prison Break's Marshall Allman and Quarantine's Denis O'Hare joined the cast (as Sam's lost brother and the Vampire King of Mississippi) as reported on our Starlog site. Filming on Season 3 began this week. Night Of The Living Dead: Origins, a CGI "reimagining/prequel" of/to George A. Romero »

Apparently when Vin Diesel talks, he likes to say “Haha”. I mean, I’ve never actually seen someone type “Haha” as often as Vin Diesel does, but I suppose the man does it in real life, so it naturally translate to his typing. Or at least, that’s what I surmised from these entries at his Facebook account, where Vin Diesel has not only been hinting at a “Chronicles of Riddick” sequel on the near horizon, but seems to actually be saying it’s going to happen, and soon. As recently as November 6, Diesel wrote this: The Riddick script is completed… great job Dt. Dt is, of course, David Twohy, the guy who created the franchise, and has written/directed both “Pitch Black” and the first “Chronicles of Riddick”, and along with Diesel, is the driving force behind the franchise getting back to the big screen after the lackluster reception »

Vin Diesel has put his personal Facebook page to good use today and has so in the past as it has broken some news on future installments of the Chronicles of Riddick. In August Diesel mentioned that the script would be in soon and that may shoot two movies back to back.
On his recent status update Diesel revealed that location scouting on the next chapter in The Chronicles of Riddick saga is currently underway in New Zealand. He states,
“The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting!”
In an another early post from last month he mentioned that the fifth installment of Fast & Furious is being written as well, and that he appreciates Universal’s commitment to making it right.

"The Chronicles of Riddick" sequel has begun to show its shape. Following Vin Diesel's claim that the follow-up to the 2004 film has been developed, the actor has taken it to his Facebook to inform that the movie's crew have begun scouting. "The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting," so read the statement posted on Tuesday, December 1.
The 42-year-old actor previously revealed that two sequels of the sci-fi thriller have been worked on and "Riddick" screenwriter was writing the scripts. On the reason why the sequels take a long time to be developed, he explained, "Everyone knows I love the Riddick character and I'm always working on it. It just takes five years to make another one because David Twohy and I are so precious about it."
Later, the "Fast and Furious" star revealed that the third installment of "Riddick" movie will feature some epic »

According to Vin Diesel's Facebook page, that just may be the case. Here is what he said in one of his latest posts: The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting. Sure, scouting doesn't mean much, but that's still a pretty big leap for something that we weren't sure was even being written. I guess this means we can expect a formal announcement soon...or not. What do you guys think about the "Riddick" series? I think they're alright so far. "Pitch Black" was a sorta fun monster movie and "Chronicles of Riddick" was a bit cheesy in spots - more or less via some of the costuming choices and production design - but entertaining. I will admit that I liked the ending a lot, and was curious to see where they would take the story next. I think the main problem for me is »

On his Facebook page [via ComingSoon], Vin Diesel announced that “The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting.” Wow! A new Chronicles of Riddick movie! That is exciting! So who’s financing this adventure? I know you’re going back down to your Pitch Black budget but I’m sure in this economy, someone out there is willing to give you guys money to make a movie with only a strong cult following and no broader appeal. I would assume that David Twohy would return to direct, but that would be weird because in August he told Steve that his next project is a film called Crying Havoc.
Here’s what I think is the truth: Vin Diesel is lying. He is lying his ass off to continue interest not in a 3rd Riddick movie, but in Vin Diesel and letting the fans know that he’s »

The original Pitch Black is probably one of our all-time favorite sci-fi/horror hybrids here in the Dread Central offices. The second one with its neutered PG-13 rating .... not so much. We're all praying the third time's the charm for an R-rated return to form for the Vin Diesel franchise, and the actor himself just dropped a pretty interesting little tidbit!
Over on Vin Diesel's Facebook page the actor writes, "The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting."
Exciting indeed!
While we weren't exactly huge fans of Diesel’s second time around as Riddick, it’s hard to deny that there definitely is some potential to go further in the story of one of the more badass criminals to fight evil in the universe. More to come!

For those of you looking for the return of Vin Diesel as arguably his best on-screen character, Riddick, it looks like it’s one step closer to reality.
On his Facebook page yesterday, Diesel put up an update which included a line revealing that the team behind the next Riddick movie were scouting out locations already – a great thing to hear for those of us anticipating the sequel to 2004’s Chronicles of Riddick.
“The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting”
The last we heard on the Riddick 3 front was from writer David Twohy, the man who wrote A Perfect Getaway in addition to writing and directing the Riddick films. That was back in August and at the time, he was working out two ideas for the sequel, one of which that would be Rated R. There was studio interest in another PG-13 version, but »
