Who needs critics? Who needs experts? Since the dawn of the internet and the democratization of entertainment, who really needs someone to tell them what is good and what is not good? Clearly, the people who made up the list of nominees below -- the 18 million voters of the People's Choice Awards -- need some assistance. It is sad -- void of great drama such as Mad Men and full of teenie-bopper schlock like Twilight -- but also triumphant, as it makes me feel great about my own job security. Thank you America, for once again proving that you need me. The 2009 People's Choice Awards will air on January 6, 2010 on CBS. Adam Goldberg: Shooting To The Music
By
Adam Goldberg first brought his unique brand of manic intensity to Richard Linklater’s ensemble classic Dazed and Confused in 1993 and has since been featured in such varied films as 2 Days in Paris, A Beautiful Mind, Saving Private Ryan, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Hebrew Hammer and I Love Your Work, which he also directed. An actor with a talent for mining the neuroses of his character for both comedic and dramatic effect, Goldberg also played recurring roles in “Friends” and “Entourage.” Goldberg's music CD, "LANDy, Eros And Omissions," hit shelves June 23 of this year from Nine Yards Records.
Goldberg’s latest film, (Untitled), is a satirical comedy that has him playing Adrian Jacobs, a brooding avant-garde composer who falls for the gorgeous owner (Marley Shelton) of a trendy New York art gallery. The quirky worlds »

“Hollywood has always been a cage... a cage to catch our dreams.” – John Huston The sagacious Huston may have been right, once, but if recent reports are to be believed, and there is no reason to doubt them, the finances of the major Hollywood studios are in freefall. Battered by both the rise of digital, and thus the manner in which people are choosing to consume entertainment, and a quickening drought in funding, production is predicted to fall by more a third over the coming year. In response to the broader global economic meltdown banks have withdrawn much of their investment in the West Coast industry ($12bn from a total of $18bn has been made unavailable) and the ascent of Internet piracy, and even the legitimate but far less profitable download and video-on-demand sectors, is ripping the DVD market asunder. Foreign language films, too, are chipping away at the assumed »

Michael Madsen takes on Vinnie Jones in the new vampire movie, The Bleeding, on November 10th. The film also stars Dmx, Kat Von D, Michael Matthias (he kind of looks like Vin Diesel) and Armand Assante. Hopefully this won't be as bad as Steven Seagal's Against the Dark When ex-us Army Ranger Shawn Black searches for the brutal killer of his parents, he discovers a terrifying family of vampires led by Cain, The Vampire King. Tipped off by a friendly cop and fortified with blessed weaponry supplied to him by a boozy priest, Black must infiltrate the vampire's lair - a former chemical weapons factory turned night club where he will finally meet the creature that has changed his life forever. »

Director, producer, and choreographer Adam Shankman has landed two new Hollywood gigs. The first is an adaptation of the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” for New Line Cinema, and the other is producing the upcoming 82nd telecast of the Academy Awards.
“Ages” is a jukebox of 80’s rock anthems from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, Poison and Asia. The film centers on an aspiring musician and an actress who fall in love against the backdrop of classic rock.
According to Variety, Shankman hopes this will be, “Mamma Mia! for dudes.” Maybe it’s just me, but he might be overestimating how many “dudes” want to see choreographed dance moves to “We Built This City.”
Shankman, who directed Hairspray and is preparing for Hairspray 2, is no stranger to song and dance films and is currently a permanent judge on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance. »

If yesterday's trailer for Jackie Chan's family action comedy The Spy Next Door didn't excite (or depress) you enough, here's the official poster for the flick. And if you're wondering how this one differs from The Pacifier, it's simple: this one has a housepig instead of a houseduck. And Billy Ray Cyrus. And more people getting whacked with frying pans. Plus Vin Diesel isn't Chinese. I don't think... »

There was a rumor floated recently by CineFools that Vin Diesel had dropped out of xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. If you heard that rumor and freaked out, you can now turn red ’cause Diesel’s publicist emailed MTV and said it was untrue. This is exactly what was said in that email:
“I made a few calls on this and I can tell you that it is completely not true.“
The action-packed xXx franchise began with Diesel in 2002, when he played the extreme sports athlete-turned government operative, Xander Cage. xXx: State of the Union (2005) ripped Cage away from us and replaced him with Ice Cube’s Darius Stone. The third installment in the franchise is to be directed by Ericson Core, who brought us Invincible and was the cinematographer on Daredevil.
It was suspected the Deisel had dropped out of The Return of Xander Cage because director Rob Cohen, »

From the guy who brought you “Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins” and “Are We There Yet?” comes Jackie Chan in … “The Spy Next Door”! It’s not just Jackie Chan, either, it’s Billy Ray Cyrus (you know, Hannah Montana’s dad?), George Lopez, and sexy supermodel turned (cinematic) mother of three Amber Valletta. Okay, so it’s basically a movie where Chan makes a fool of himself in the service of comedy, in the tradition of other movie tough guys like Vin Diesel, The Rock, Arnold, etc. You know the drill: tough guy learns that caring for a bunch of overly precocious (but adorable) kids is almost as tough as saving the world blah blah blah. While babysitting his neighbor’s children, a mild-mannered guy winds up having to fight off secret agents after one of the kids inadvertently downloads a secret code. Starring Jackie Chan, Lucas Till, Amber Valletta, »

So late last week a movie site posted “exclusive news” from a “trusted source” that said Vin Diesel had bailed on the “xXx” sequel, “The Return of Xander Cage”, and speculated that the reason could be Rob Cohen leaving the project to direct his movie “Medieval”. We didn’t post that news, mostly because, well, I didn’t buy it. Vin Diesel knows that returning to the “xXx” franchise will result in some major bucks at the box office, and get his career right back there in the A-list stratosphere (and give him two major hits in a roll, along with the recent “Fast & Furious”), so why would he walk away just because Rob Cohen wasn’t directing it? Made no sense to me, so I didn’t post it. According to MTV, there’s a reason the news didn’t make sense: probably because it’s untrue. The word comes from Diesel’s publicist, »

Vin Diesel has laughed off reports he has scrapped his XXX comeback, insisting he will star in the upcoming movie sequel.
The action man has been in training for XXX: The Return of Xander Cage since August, but reports hit the internet last week suggesting he had decided against reprising his role.
The star's publicist has dismissed the claims, telling MTV News, "I made a few calls on this and I can tell you that it is completely not true." »

After returning to the Fast & the Furious franchise it had looked like Vin Diesel was going back to the XXX franchise as well, but that has all changed. An article on Cinefools.com says that Vinny has pulled out of XXX: The Return of Xander Cage. I would think this will be very bad as it follows on the heels of original director Rob Cohen (The Fast & the Furious, XXX) pulling out as well and little known filmmaker Ericson Cole stepping in. Details for Diesel's departure have not been released. What does this mean for the XXX franchise? I, personally, have seen XXX nor it's Ice Cube sequel. I suppose they could go ahead with another actor. What do you think? Should they bother and would it make any money anyway? Update: Breathe easy folks, it looks like this rumour has been debunked [1]. [1] http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/10/16/rumor-control-vin-diesel-still-on-board-for-xxx-the-return-of-xander-cage/

Vin Diesel has reportedly pulled out of his XXX comeback.
The action man is no longer attached to XXX : The Return of Xander Cage, according to website CineFools.com.
Diesel's departure follows news director Rob Cohen quit the project this summer and was replaced by little-known moviemaker Ericson Core.
MovieHole.net reports Diesel had been training for the film since August. Details about the reasons for his departure have not been released.
Diesel initially agreed to return to the XXX franchise after rapper/actor Ice Cube played the lead in xXx 2: State of The Union. »

Early this morning, a rumor hit the Internets concerning Vin Diesel and one of his upcoming gigs. Citing a "trusted source," website CineFOOLS reported that "Vin Diesel has dropped out of 'xXx 3.'" No reason accompanied the news, though the writer speculated that it might have something to do with director Rob Cohen's departure from the franchise. Diesel of course launched the franchise in 2002, though the 2005 sequel centered on a new hero, played by Ice Cube.
Seeing as how the title of the film specifically references Diesel's character, his departure would likely spell some pretty significant changes for the coming sequel. Fortunately, it turns out that the rumor is untrue: Vin Diesel is still on board to star in "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage," which currently has a tentative 2011 release listed.
The word comes from Diesel's publicist, who checked out the rumor and confirmed it to be false. »
