While one star of Australia was elsewhere in town at the women of the year awards, Hugh Jackman got dressed up to honor director Baz Luhrmann at the MoMA. The handsome actor was just one of the stars out looking fabulous alongside Jessica Biel in a simple Lbd and Rachel Weisz in one with flattering pink accents. Maggie Gyllenhaal draped herself in fur — can you tell if it's faux or not? — while Peter kept the fuzziness on his face. Nicole Kidman was expected to stop by after her Glamour event to help get everyone excited for their big release just a few weeks away as well as raise money and awareness for the museum's growing film collection. Rachel Weisz had to learn to play four musical instruments for her part in The Brothers Bloom. The actress not only had to get to grips with the accordion, banjo, guitar and fiddle, but she also had to overcome a language barrier with her teacher. Actress Rachel Weisz embarked on a musical journey to prepare for her role in The Brothers Bloom - she had to learn how to play four different instruments.
The Mummy star admits it was a tall task to undertake for the upcoming comedy adventure, particularly because she was stuck with a Serbian music teacher - and they struggled to overcome the language barrier.
She says, "We were in Serbia when we were doing the scenes and I learned the accordion with a professor who spoke no English and I spoke no Serbian. I just wished someone had made a documentary of me trying to learn the accordion because it was so silly.
"Then I had to learn the banjo, guitar and fiddle. I was doing my homework in my room for hours learning the chords. I had to look as if I knew how to play these instruments."
But Weisz, who stars as an heiress who is cheated by conmen played by Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo, admits there was one other skill she had to master - and that was the hardest of all.
She adds, "Most difficult were the card tricks. I never knew how to shuffle a pack let alone do this amazing card trick. I had to learn with someone from the Magic Circle. That was no fake, believe me."

Rachel Weisz has revealed that she was banned from driving a Lamborghini on the set of her new film The Brothers Bloom. The actress told Newsbeat that despite being competent behind the wheel, she was not able to convince producers to let her drive the expensive sports car. Adrien Brody and Michael Chiklis are packing for “High School,” an indie comedy directed by John Stalberg Jr., according to Variety.
The film focuses on a high school genius forced to take a drug test after he gets high with the school’s stoner. But being the clever guy he is, he plans to get the whole school stoned so everybody will fail the test.
The trade says Brody will star as a drug dealer, with Chiklis playing the school principal.
Stalberg Jr. is directing a script he co-wrote with Stephen Susco (“The Grudge” and “The Grudge 2”). Filming is scheduled to kick off soon in Detroit.
Brody was last seen in “The Darjeeling Limited.” Next up is Rian Johnson’s comedy “The Brothers Bloom,” which also stars Rachel Weisz and Mark Ruffalo.
As for Chiklis, he’s currently onscreen in D.J. Caruso’s “Eagle Eye.”

It's a tough position to be in, wanting something to be better than it is. I don't have kids, but if I did, I imagine I'd have to pretend to like a lot of school plays and soccer games. Chicago Cubs fans have had to pretend for 100 years that they actually believe this is the year, despite evidence to the contrary (again).
With Blindness, I wanted badly to appreciate it more than it deserves. I just can't.
In 2002, I discovered a little movie called City of God. I shared it with everyone I could. At the time, it was not yet nominated for four Oscars and had no reputation as being one of the best films of the decade. That came later. But I sold it hard and professed the talents of its director,

The 31st Mill Valley Film Festival ("Mvff") is set to begin this Thursday, and since posting my first program overview, we’ve seen two new films added to the line-up. The first is Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire—arguably the film with the biggest buzz from this year’s Telluride and Toronto festivals—and the other is Rian Johnson’s follow-up to Brick, the Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody and Rachel Weisz-starring The Brothers Bloom.
What follows are (mostly) quick takes of nine Mvff films I’ve had the chance to preview in recent weeks. The first three were screened for press, and the remainder were seen on DVD screeners. Wendy and Lucy and Lemon Tree are due for U.S. release and therefore restricted to 75-word hold-reviews.

Rachel Weisz could not find the time to read the script for the new film in the Mummy franchise, she has revealed. The movie, The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor, was released this summer without the star, who played Evelyn in the first two films. Weisz remarked that with work on her movie The Brothers Bloom finishing at around the same time, it would have been difficult for her to fit the project in. "In fact, I never even read the script because it was going to be, I think, five months in China, (more)

Rian Johnson is the director of the innovative modern-day film noir Brick, which premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, and The Brothers Bloom is his impressive followup. While Brick is certainly set in a world of its own, with everyone in a contemporary high school speaking in 30s and 40s detective-speak, The Brothers Bloom takes place in a fantasy world chock full of steamships, fancy cars, and mysterious settings. He gets impressive performances out of Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo, Rachel Weisz reinvents herself nicely, and Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi i ...

It was another day of red carpets at the Toronto Film Festival, and this time there were a few new stars to add to the mix. Rachel McAdams was a welcome — but sadly date-free — fresh face at the premiere of Che, as was Emmanuelle Chriqui in her cute Lbd. Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody goofed around while Rachel Weisz looked gorgeous in her bandage dress as the trio kept on promoting The Brothers Bloom. Paris and Benji were happy to pose together there as expected to check out a screening of Paris, Not France, the documentary which features both members of the happy couple. The Toronto Film Festival soldiered on yesterday, and Matt Damon's OneXOne Gala was just one of the many events. Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale looked gorgeous in white at the premiere of Easy Virtue and a press conference for Nothing but the Truth, respectively. Mark Ruffalo looked like he was having a ball with costars Rachel Weisz and Adrien Brody at an afterparty for The Brothers Bloom. Even Paris and Benji made the trip up to Canada in the name of partying, hitting the This Monday at Ultra party with Paris's canned prosecco in hand, naturally.
