Mormon Musical Heading For Broadway

17 November 2008 5:51 PM, PST | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are taking a comedy musical about the Mormon faith to Broadway.

The pair have teamed up with Jeff Marx - the brains behind successful stage comedy Avenue Q - to develop a script for Mormon Musical.

New York stage veteran Cheyenne Jackson has already been cast to star in the show, which he is convinced will be a hit - albeit a controversial one.

Jackson tells the New York Post's Pop Wrap, "It's hilarious, very acerbic and biting. It offends everybody but does what South Park does best, which is, by the end, it comes around and has something great to say. I play the main missionary."

Rehearsals are set to start in December, and a debut is expected in Manhattan's famous theatre district in 2009.

A Brief Report On The 2008 Spike TV Scream Awards

20 October 2008 7:30 AM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Regular Screen Rant reader Brian Kettler attended the 2008 Spike TV Scream awards and was kind enough to send us in a brief report. Here it is, in his own words:

The 2008 Spike TV Scream awards were held again this year at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. For anyone unfamiliar with the Greek, it’s an open air venue situated in Griffith Park. The open air nature of the theater led to some really thrilling entertainment, along with a daring entrance by a special guest who looked sincerely scared that his entrance would end tragically.

The red carpet event was truly fun to attend. The show almost started late due to the guests taking their time talking to the press at the event and posing for pictures. Of course, being a general attendee and not a member of the press, not everyone stopped to talk to us. The Osborne’s looked great.

Lucas and Spielberg Defile Indy Jones on 'South Park'

9 October 2008 6:07 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Hindsight is 20/20, of course, but a lot of us saw this happening going in. I didn't love Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I didn't hate it, either, although there are parts of that movie that stink even by George Lucas' steadily sinking standards. I thought it was Ok, entertaining if you're a fan. Harrison Ford probably should hang up the fedora and Steven Spielberg needs to make more interesting movies.

The bottom line is that we didn't really need a fourth adventure.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park have, uh, another opinion. Here's a clip from this week's episode of South Park, featuring Indy Jones and his two creators.

I must warn you: It gets pretty graphic...

Well. They should have at least had the decency to do that in private.

And on that note: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

TV: Indiana Jones and the George Lucas O Face

9 October 2008 6:20 AM, PDT | From JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news

South Park is back! The biggest balls on television had its return last night, and it couldn't have been more satisfying, especially to all of us who had to suffer the indignation of watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. In the episode, the boys confront the traumatizing experience of watching the film, which they remember vividly as "George Lucas and Steven Spielberg raping Indiana Jones." The phrase "they raped my childhood" gets thrown around a lot on the internet, but when you're Trey Parker and Matt Stone, you don't just say that. You take it to the full extent of that statement.

South Park Pays Tribute To 'Chef' Hayes

13 August 2008 8:58 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have paid tribute to the late Isaac Hayes - by posting a message on the show's website.

The soul legend voiced the character of Chef in the cartoon from 1998, before he was written out of the script in 2006.

Hayes parted ways with the comedy duo after he objected to an episode ridiculing the controversial Scientology religion, of which the singer was a follower.

Their split resulted in Chef being brutally killed off in the cartoon.

However, following Hayes' death on Sunday, Stone and Parker have posted a simple 'in memoriam' tribute on website southparkstudios.com.

Spaced DVD Giveaway!

24 July 2008 6:08 AM, PDT | From TwitchFilm.net | See recent Twitch news

How do you know that I love you?  Because I am holding in my hands right now a brand new copy of the Us DVD release of classic UK sitcom Spaced, the first work of genius from the team that would go on to create Shaun of the Dead and The Hot Fuzz.  This release is essentially the same as the three disc UK special edition release - which is to say, excellent - with the addition of a pair of commentary tracks featuring a stream of Us based special guests:  Kevin Smith, Diablo Cody, Patton Oswalt, Matt Stone, Quentin Tarantino and Bill Hader.  It’s tasty.

You want it?  Well then you must :  of the four member comedy outfit The League of Gentlemen two members have significant guest appearances on Spaced.  Name the two who do not.  You’ve got until August 1st.

Hey, Mr. 'Spaced' Man

20 July 2008 12:32 AM, PDT | From NYPost.com | See recent New York Post news

You know you've got yourself one crazy comedy when a man who plays video games suddenly finds himself shooting real zombies and a woman breaks up with her boyfriend while wearing melodramatic Gatsby-esque apparel. Considering that one of the minds behind "Spaced" is "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" co-creator and star Simon Pegg (right, with white hair), it's no surprise that it's also an absolute blast.

"Spaced" is the tale of Tim and Daisy, an aspiring cartoonist and

L.A. Film Festival '08: Tragedy and Comedy, "Spaced" and the Reitmans

30 June 2008 8:15 AM, PDT | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

By Stephen Saito

It's hard to say whether it's been the stifling heat or former Warner Independent chief Mark Gill's much-talked about "the sky really is falling" speech (published in full at indieWire here) that gave attendees of this year's Los Angeles Film Festival a sense of their own mortality. Then again, it could just be the way in which the effects of life-altering events have been examined in several of the festival's films, particularly in the narrative section.

When Gill, now heading up the indie shingle The Film Department, spoke at the adjoining film financing conference on the first Saturday of the festival, he decried the indie film marketplace as standing on the brink of oblivion, saying, "if you decide to make a movie budgeted under $10 million on your own tomorrow, you have a 99.9% chance of failure." On that basis, it's possible that "Winged Creatures," an ensemble drama

South Park Creators Twit WGA

4 April 2008 11:36 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have lampooned the recent Writers Guild of America strike. As described by the website Hollywood Today, Wednesday's episode of the animated series featured the head of the "World Canadian Bureau" leading Canada into a costly and pointless strike. Characters in the episode also remarked that more money was lost by striking than could ever be realistically gained. Now that it looks like Trey Parker and Matt Stone won't be doing their "Godzilla" throwback pic, Giant Monsters Attack Japan, someone else might as well capitalize on the untapped marketplace. Today it was announced that Michael Dougherty (Trick 'R Treat) has teamed with Walt Disney Pictures and Robert Zemeckis' ImageMovers on Calling All Robots, an animated sci-fi adventure the scribe plans to direct using the same type of performance capture technology recently deployed to produce "Beowulf." 'Giant Monsters Attack Japan!' Not Happening?

26 March 2008 12:13 PM, PDT | From bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news

I read this article last week when Bc sent it over to me and I refused to believe it, I actually blocked it out of my head. The Onion posted an (real) interview with Trey Parker and Matt Stone - the madmen behind "South Park" - where they had some really disheartening news. "Were not really doing much with movies right now, Stone tells the site. Were kind of just concentrating on the TV show. Movies are hardand I dont want to do em any more. If youre gonna do a movie, youd better be damn sure you want to do that movie, because its gonna suck to make. But the real odd part of the story is that Parker and Stone are interviewed separately... after twelve seasons together could this unstoppable duo be finished? Let us all pray.

South Park: All The Shows, All The Time

26 March 2008 10:04 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

For reportedly the first time, every episode of every season of a TV series will be streamed online in its entirety with the official launch Tuesday of the new South Park website at southparkstudios.com. In a statement, Comedy Central said that since a beta version was launched last Wednesday, it had delivered more than a million streams of full South Park episodes. The show's creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, said in a statement that they had pushed for the site because "we got really sick of having to download our own show illegally all the time so we gave ourselves a legal alternative." Due to contractual issues, the episodes will not be available in the U.K., Australia and a few other countries, "but we're not far off from making that happen," South Park Digital Studios General Manager Anne Garefino said.
