Today on ComicMix, we're starting a new story from Mark Ryan (Transformers) and Mike Grell (Jon Sable Freelance, James Bond: 007) that goes places no other story will go, starting from World War II to today's war on terror to realms unknown. It's an espionage story unlike any other, based in historical facts that are almost impossible to believe-- why did Ian Fleming recruit Aleister Crowley for the war effort, anyway?
The Pilgrim is written by Mark Ryan, who has one of the most varied careers you will ever encounter in your life: as an actor, going from originating the roles of Magaldi in Evita and Nasir in Robin of Sherwood to playing Bumblebee in Transformers and appearing with Eric Idle at Carnegie Hall while wearing a green dress; as a fight director, he taught Keira Knightley, Stellan Skarsgard and Clive Owen how to swordfight; as a writer, he's written Green

See the trailer for the eagerly anticipated film "Angels & Demons" starring Tom Hanks, Ayelet Zurer, Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgård, Armin Mueller-Stahl, David Pasquesi, Cosimo Fusco and Elya Baskin. Tom Hanks reprises his role as Robert Langdon in the next offering written by Dan Brown. "The Da Vinci Code" opened May 19th, 2006 with $77 million on its first weekend before ending off with $217.5 million in U.S. box office numbers. Internationally, the film more than doubled that total with an impressive $540 million take. "Angels & Demons" opens on May 15th next year and will certainly bring in big numbers for the studio.

Not days after Eric D. Snider brought us welcome proof of Tom Hanks' mullet-free appearance has the teaser trailer for next May's Da Vinci Code sequel (or is it prequel?) been posted online, and all that can really be said for Angels & Demons at this point is that Hanks is once again racing against the ironically shadowy Illuminati to solve another Vatican-set (but not Vatican-shot) mystery.
He's paired up with another brunette agent (Ayelet Zurer in lieu of Audrey Tautou), Ewan McGregor pops up as a man of the cloth, and Stellan Skarsgard finds himself on the business end of a branding iron. I had heard that the novel is an improvement from its predecessor, so let's hope this follows suit next May.
Considerably closer and already loaded with acclaim is Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, the trailer for which just popped up over at Yahoo! Movies. I'm close

Just two days ago we posted one of the first stills from Ron Howard's upcoming "Angels & Demons," and today we've got the first teaser trailer for you right after the jump.
Based on the novel by Dan Brown, the film follows Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) on his quest to interrupt a plot by the Illuminati to destroy the Vatican.
Also starring in the anticipated film are Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgård, Ayelet Zurer and Thure Lindhart. The film opens everywhere May 15, 2009.

Almost everyone says Angels & Demons is a better read than The Da Vinci Code, but will the prequel make more money that the film version of Dan Brown's other book?
Tom Hanks and director Ron Howard are back in the fold, and Ewan McGregor co-stars, along with reliable hands Stellan Skarsgard and Armin Mueller-Stahl, so those are all positives.
Now there's a new teaser trailer from Columbia Pictures (via Trailer Addict) and I have to say, it's pretty damn good. It's funny how much we talk about summer blockbusters and comic book movies and all that, but this thing has a very legitimate shot to be the biggest movie of 2009.
Angels & Demons arrives on May 15th.

USA Today has your first look at Ron Howard’s upcoming “Angels & Demons,” the follow-up to the 2006 hit movie “The Da Vinci Code.”
Based on the novel by Dan Brown, the film follows Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) on his quest to interrupt a plot to destroy the Vatican.
Also starring in the anticipated film are Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgård, Ayelet Zurer and Thure Lindhart.
You can check out one screenshot from the movie above, and the rest of them at USA Today. “Angels & Demons” opens May 15, 2009.
Final word: I attended the world premiere of “Da Vinci” in Cannes in 2006, but the flick bored me to death. Let’s hope this one is a little more fast-paced.

Photo: HBO Last week I finished my episode review up by saying "The show hasn't really found a groove yet and still seems to be creating its world and drawing lines in the sand as to which side the folks of Bon Temps, Louisiana will side." Well, this week's episode, "Escape from Dragon House", certainly does a lot more in fleshing out that world a little more as new elements are added and subtext that has always been there continues to bubble to the surface and "True Blood" may slowly be turning into of a great vampire series, but it still has a long way to go. One episode does not make for a great series, but this one was a good start. When we last left Bon Temps, the small town brunette beauty, Dawn (Lynn Collins), was killed and the fourth episode begins with all eyes turned on Jason

The players: Director: Phyllida Lloyd, Writers: Catherine Johnson, Cast: Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Christine Baranski, Julie Walter, Stellan Skarsgard
Facts of interest: Based on the hit musical "Mamma Mia!"
The plot: A bride-to-be (Seyfried) tries to uncover the identity of her real father by inviting the three possible candidates to her wedding.
Our quick thoughts: Phyllida Lloyd debuts onscreen after directing "Mamma Mia!" on stage. This however didn’t certify a marvelous representation of the musical on the big screen. As a first-time director, Lloyd was lucky enough to be able to work with top-notch actors, who in some scenes deliver fantastic performances and in others simply ridicule themselves.

'When Hillary Clinton's once- inevitable presidential campaign became this year's Betamax, the anti-Hillary industry was left bereft, its dreams of selling Hillary voodoo dolls and barf bags suddenly dashed," writes James Kirchick in Portfolio magazine.
David Bossie could not release 'Hillary: The Movie' during her campaign because of Federal Election Commission regulations. The restrictions were lifted, "but the movie's potential audience seems greatly diminished."

Mamma Mia!
Starring Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, and Colin Firth
Directed by Phyllida Lloyd
Rated PG-13
I have decided to not stop writing my review of Mamma Mia! until I run out of bad things to say about it. Pack a lunch; you're going to be here a while.
First, I should be a champ and tell you what I liked about it. Ok, fair enough: Greece looks absolutely beautiful whenever this film was shot; though she hasn't needed to be impressive in her past few roles, Meryl Streep clearly still has that thing that only she has, especially when she belts out the only truly worthwhile musical number in the movie, "The Winner Takes it All;" and Amanda Seyfried (Big Love) is incredibly exuberant and happy to be here.
And now that that's out of the way...
You've been to a party or on a night out

Meryl Streep plays Donna in Mamma Mia!
Photo: Universal Pictures I am sure fans of the Abba musical "Mamma Mia!" are already frothing at the mouth to see the film adaptation bringing the 1999 stage musical to the big screen. The screening I attended was about three-quarters full and filled with theater-type ready to see the "magic" of the Swedish pop band's music glittering on the silver screen, but while they cheered I was left to writhe in my seat as this film is one sour note after another. The film is designed around a story beginning with bride-to-be, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), sending out three letters inviting three strangers to her wedding in hopes that one of them may be her long lost father. Sophie learns of the men after secretly scouring through her mother's (Meryl Streep) diary and sifting through the exploits of the one-time carefree hippie. The story is simple,

This week sees the opening of "The Dark Knight." Advance marketing and coverage might have you believe that that, apparently, is all, but there are other films coming out this week well worth your time. (Besides, "The Dark Knight" is totally going to be sold out.)
With Britain in the midst of a youth crime epidemic, Irish investigative reporter Donald McIntyre takes an unflinching look at Dominic Noonan, a granddad of the English gangland who's spent over half his life behind bars. Having legally changed his name to Lattlay Fottfoy (an acronym of the Noonan motto . "Look After Those That Look After You; Fuck Off Those That Fuck Off You"), the openly gay head of Manchester's most notorious crime family shows off his gentler side as a man who uses his reputation to position himself as a "problem solver" more concerned with the

British actor Colin Firth insists Mamma Mia moviemakers only have themselves to blame if the big-screen adaptation of the stage musical flops - because they gave him his role without hearing him sing.
Firth and co-stars Pierce Brosnan and Stellan Skarsgard all hit the high notes in the movie, which features a soundtrack by Swedish pop legends Abba.
None of the acting trio are singers - so Firth is keeping his fingers crossed their voices don't kill the movie.
He says, "They didn't audition me to sing. They didn't audition Pierce Brosnan to sing. Or Stellan Skarsgard. So they get whatever they deserved as far as I'm concerned."
