It's been a busy month for the esteemed alumni of Friends. ABC picked up Courteney Cox's Cougar Town for a full season. Matt LeBlanc finally rebounded from Joey with a Showtime satire about the perils of stardom. According to IMDb, Jennifer Aniston has no less than seven projects in development. David Schwimmer is slated to direct a Clive Owen indie. And Matthew Perry is co-writing and exec producing a comedy series inspired by -- himself. Now, Lisa Kudrow can get back to regular work as well. To see which network saved Kudrow from a Smelly Cat American tour, and which Oscar-winning actress will join her, follow us after the jump. »

Casting Notes: Two Gigs for Viola Davis; Gerard Butler Does Shakespeare with Fiennes; Chow Yun Fat Does Action/Comedy

22 October 2009 10:44 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Here's a batch of casting news to tide you over until the next Page 2. Viola Davis, always a great actress and whose appearance in Doubt nearly owns the entire film, has taken two roles. One is in It's Kind of a Funny Story, where she'll work with...Zach Galifianakis? The film is about a depressed teen who checks himself into an adult psych ward. Davis will be his psychiatrist. If Galifianakis was playing the teen I'd be amazed, but that's not likely to be the case. The other film for Davis is Trust, which is not a remake of the great Hal Hartley film with the late Adrienne Shelley and Martin Donovan. Instead, this is David Schwimmer's next directorial effort, in which a teen girl is 'victimized by an adult who gained her trust posing as a teenager on a chat room." Clive Owen and Catherine Keener are already »

Viola Davis Will Solve All Your Problems

22 October 2009 7:07 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Maybe it's that Oscar nomination, maybe it's that rich, resonant, voice, but something about Viola Davis must scream "authority!" She shot to stardom (or at least, awareness among most moviegoers) last year playing Mrs. Miller, the only person who could possibly shame Meryl Streep's Sister Aloysius, and this year she popped up already in Law Abiding Citizen, a movie that made the one good choice of casting her as the mayor. Now she's picked two more roles in which she'll take charge and solve other people's problems. Variety writes that Davis will be in the Zach Galifianakis movie It's Kind of a Funny Story and the David Schwimmer-directed Trust, and will play a psychiatrist/counselor in both films. Funny Story is about a 15-year-old who checks himself into an adult psychiatric ward, where Davis plays his psychiatrist. And Trust is about a family coping with trauma, with the »

Viola Davis Joins “Trust” and “Funny Story”

22 October 2009 5:50 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

I recently talked about the addition of Catherine Keener and Clive Owen to the cast of David Schwimmer’s Trust, two casting decisions that I couldn’t be happier about. Now Schwimmer has added another cast member to his domestic drama: Viola Davis.

Though not a household name, Davis has been seen everywhere lately, from State of Play to Law Abiding Citizen to Madea Goes to Jail and the upcoming (horrendously titled) Knight & Day. According to Variety, Trust centers around “a family who must deal with the ramifications after their 14-year-old daughter is victimized by an adult who gained her trust posing as a teenager on a chat room. Davis will play the counselor assigned to the girl’s case.”

She has also joined the cast of the Zach Galifianakis film It’s Kind of a Funny Story, which sounds like an interesting turn for the comedic actor, as the »

Viola Davis Puts her 'Trust' in Indie Film

22 October 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- I'm wouldn't necessarily call her the Parker Posey indie girl of today, but since Steven Soderbergh's Solaris and Todd Haynes' Far From Heaven, Viola Davis is taking on more supporting cast pinch hitter in independent films. The actress who essentially got her start in film with bit roles in Soderbergh's Out of Sight and Traffic, has just signed up for a pair of indie films. Davis will be featured in Ryan Fleck's adaptation of Ned Vizzini's It's Kind of a Funny Thing for Focus Features. The story is described as a young-adult One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and centers on a clinically depressed 15-year-old who checks himself into an adult psychiatric ward where he gains a new lease on life. Davis will play the psychiatrist who helps him understand his anxieties and provides him with the help he needs. Filming is pegged for sometime soon. »

Viola Davis Joins Funny Story

22 October 2009 12:37 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Somebody give Viola Davis' agent a rise. The actress has signed on not one, but two dotted lines, joining It's Kind Of A Funny Story as well as David Schwimmer's sophmore directorial effort, Trust. She joins Zach Galifianakis in Funny Story, which is based on Ned Vizzini's semi-autobiographical novel and is directed by Ryan 'Half Nelson' Fleck. It focuses on a suicidally depressed New York teen who, rather than leaping from the Brooklyn Bridge, checks into a psychiatric hospital where he finds help and inspiration. Davis will bring the inspiration as his psychiatrist, while Galifianakis will no doubt deliver the funny. Trust, meanwhile, will demand more altruism of Davis. She'll play a counsellor assigned to protect a 14 year-old girl (Liana Liberato) who's duped by an online predator. It's heavyweight stuff with a reasonably heavyweight cast: Clive Owen and Catherine Keener are on board as the girl's parents. »

Clive Owen has revealed that his upcoming drama Trust will be an "uncompromising" look at internet grooming. The actor, whose latest film The Boys Are Back opens in UK cinemas on January 22, admitted that he was attracted to the David Schwimmer-directed project after reading Andy Bellin's screenplay. "It's a deeply upsetting and very well written script about a family ripped apart when their 14-year-old daughter is groomed on the internet," said Owen, who will play the father in the film. Box Office

After a few years in post-production, Spike Jonze’s Where The Wild Things Are took the top spot with a mighty $32.4 million over the weekend. Catering to children and adults alike, it looks like this adaptation of the children’s book might make it to the century barrier.

Law Abiding Citizen came an impressive second with $21 million. The thriller has given a boost to the careers of Jamie Fox and Gerard Butler whose last movies underperformed.

Paranormal Activity scared up $20 million from only 760 screens for a $33 million total. It looks like the sky is the limit as Halloween approaches.

Couples Retreat plunged 47% giving the comedy a weekend take of just under $18 million. »

16 October 2009 11:44 PM, PDT | Reel Empire | See recent Reel Empire news »

We've heard talk of a motion picture based on the past popular sitcom "Friends" for years now, but it looks like it's even closer to happening than ever before.  According to reports, all six of the main actors including Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer have agreed to appear in a big screen adaptation.  This would mark the first time the six have reunited since 2004.  It's also being reported that Warner Bros. is prepared to pay each of the stars a fortune as all of them were making $1 million an episode toward the end of the series' run.  Read on for more of the story! »

Clive Owen And Catherine Keener Sign On To Trust

16 October 2009 3:59 AM, PDT | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

Clive Owen and Catherine Keener will topline the dark drama Trust, which marks David Schwimmer's first foray into the non-comedic directorial world.

Schwimmer has directed several comedy TV shows in his time, most notably Friends, Joey and Little Britain USA, and his feature directorial debut was in 2007 with the comedy Run Fatboy Run, starring Simon Pegg. His new film, Trust, will pose a new challenge for him, telling the story of a couple (Keener and Owen) who are shocked to discover that their teenage daughter (played by Liana Liberato) has been victimized by a sexual predator whom she met in an online chat room.

Filming begins this November, so presumably the film will be released some time next year.

Clive Owen & Catherine Keener 'Trust' in David Schwimmer

15 October 2009 3:29 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

After leaving behind his past as Ross from NBC's sitcom "Friends," David Schwimmer made a jump behind the camera directing such comedic fare as Run, Fatboy, Run with Simon Pegg and episodes of HBO's series "Little Britain USA." Though his success as a director hasn't been stellar, he's certainly no Uwe Boll. Now Schwimmer has a new task ahead of him as Variety reports that Schwimmer is now taking the leap into darker waters as he will direct Clive Owen (The International) and Catherine Keener (Where the Wild Things Are) in Trust, a dark drama about the damaging effects an online sexual predator has on a family. Clive Owen and Catherine Keener Sign On for David Schwimmer Drama, Trust

15 October 2009 2:40 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

It appears that David Schwimmer is leaving the comedy genre for his latest directorial project, Trust, a dark drama starring Clive Owen and Catherine Keener. (And yes, typing out that last sentence did seem a bit trippy.) Owen and Keener will play parents who are shocked to learn that their teenage daughter (played by Liana Liberato) has been victimized by a sexual predator who she met in an online chat room. The film will explore the impact of that event on their family life. Schwimmer certainly isn't the first person I'd think of to take on a project like this. His first feature, Run Fatboy Run, was a mess of a comedy that even the likes of Simon Pegg and Dylan Moran couldn't save. He's most recently been working on the Little Britain USA series (which is apparently good, but I haven't seen), and he's also had previous experience TV »
