Russell Brand has admitted to grave robbing while filming a documentary in the Us. The comic told Late Show host David Letterman that he took peanut butter from the resting place of American Beat writer Jack Kerouac. He explained: "Around his grave were all manner of tributes left by well-wishers. Some people had left things like a book of poems or flowers, more conventional, but someone had left a jar of peanut butter. That's no use to you in the afterlife, is (more)

Brand Plays Gay For Girls

13 November 2008 8:10 AM, PST | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Funnyman Russell Brand has a unique way of charming women into bed - he pretends he is gay.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star told U.S. chatshow host David Letterman that women feel less intimidated by his advances if they believe his flowing locks and flamboyant clothing mark him out as gay.

And the British comic insists the subterfuge is a sure-fire way of getting girls between the sheets.

He says, "In spite of appearances, I'm a heterosexual male. Because I'm so well dressed, people think, 'He must be gay. Look at his haircut, he must be gay. Look how sensitive and vulnerable he is, he must be gay.'

"That means women feel safe around me. They trust me. Then bang! Pregnant! Bang! Pregnant! Bang! Pregnant! Another generation. We continue."

Actress Natalie Portman has learned not to book a chat show appearance on the same day as a doctor's appointment after struggling through an interview with David Letterman on America's The Late Show on Friday night.

The Star Wars star apologised to the host for appearing "woozy" on the show, explaining she had just come from the doctor's office.

She explained, "I got my blood taken... it's just for insurance for the thing (next film), so, if I faint just bring me an orange juice.

"They have to make sure you're not actually a junkie."

It’s the Great Pumpkin …. Art Show!

5 November 2008 8:50 AM, PST | From Fangoria.com | See recent Fangoria news

I always loved carving pumpkins. I was never very good at it, but there was something visceral and alluring about plunging the knife into the orange flesh and scooping out the stringy pumpkin guts. Every year I approach my pumpkin with the utmost artistic intent, my imagination running wild like a painter approaching a blank canvas. I always plan for it to be scary and to terrify my neighborhood, but no matter how brilliant the pumpkin looks in my mind, my artistic skills never advanced beyond a 5th grade level, and somehow my pumpkin masterpiece always turns into two triangle eyes and a very nonsymmetrical smile.

That’s okay, because I still love the act. I’ll just leave the advanced pumpkin carving to the actual artists. And to that extent, I recently attended the Pumpkin Art Show at the Chelsea Market in New York City, which this year features

Obama stops by 'The Daily Show'

29 October 2008 9:07 PM, PDT | From TheWatcher | See recent The Watcher news

When Sen. Barack Obama appeared on “The Daily Show” Wednesday, host Jon Stewart had some pretty blunt questions for the presidential candidate, just as David Letterman had for Sen. John McCain a couple of weeks ago. Was Obama, in fact, intent on introducing socialism in America? Did he actually still want the job, now that the economy has hit the skids? Most importantly, was he “a witch”? “That’s right, they’ve been calling you a witch,” Stewart joked. Obama responded that some fans of Sean Hannity, the Fox News host, wouldn’t “want to go have a beer with me.” But the...

Walters Defends Palin

28 October 2008 2:42 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Barbara Walters has come to the defense of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in the controversy over Palin's campaign wardrobe. Following reports that she spent $150,000 in campaign funds for her outfits at political appearances and thousands more for makeup -- all disclosed in GOP election filings -- Walters took to the air on her ABC afternoon show The View to say that Palin should not be blamed for the expense. "I don't think this is Sarah Palin's fault," Walters said on The View Monday, "I think it's the Republicans' fault." She later explained, "The Republican Party took this money and bought her these clothes to wear." Meanwhile, the Associated Press reported Monday that late-night comics have been merciless in their McCain-Palin jibes since September 1. Citing figures by the Center for Media and Public Affairs, AP reported that the Republican presidential ticket had been the target of 475 jokes by Jay Leno and David Letterman compared with 69 directed at the Obama-Biden ticket.

Now, The McCain-Letterman Debate

17 October 2008 10:35 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

John McCain showed up on time for his appearance on the David Letterman show Thursday night, after renting a helicopter to fly from Philadelphia to New York after weather grounded his campaign plane. It was his first appearance on CBS's Late Show since he canceled a Sept. 24 appearance at the last minute, telling Letterman he had to return to Washington because of the economic crisis, but then showed up for an interview with Katie Couric for the CBS Evening News instead. "Can you stay?" Letterman asked after McCain walked onstage and sat down. "Depends on how bad it gets," McCain replied. Letterman, as it turned out, asked McCain tougher questions than McCain has faced from most journalists in recent weeks. Although the Republican candidate has hammered his Democratic rival Barack Obama for associating with 1960s' radical William Ayers, Letterman asked McCain about his own association with right-wing radical G. Gordon Liddy, who was convicted in connection with the Watergate break-in. "He went to prison. He paid his debt," McCain responded.

John McCain Gives David Letterman a Ratings Boost

17 October 2008 1:30 AM, PDT | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

John McCain may have apologized to David Letterman Thursday night, but the show's ratings are nothing to feel sorry about. Nielsen Media Research says 6.5 million viewers tuned in for MCain's raincheck appearance. It was Letterman's biggest night since a December 2005 appearance by Oprah Winfrey, when she laid to rest long-standing rumors of a feud between them, and a boost of 73 percent over the show's average audience this season, the Associated Press reports. McCain's appearance was a make-up for Sept. 24, when he called Letterman an hour and a half before showtime and said he had to rush back to Washington to deal with the economic crisis.

Viewers Prefer Obama/McCain To Dodgers/Phillies

16 October 2008 10:32 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

The third and final presidential debate Wednesday night attracted 28.91 million viewers on the broadcast networks (cable figures were not immediately available), with NBC leading with 10.34 million viewers, followed by ABC with 9.66 million, and CBS with 8.91 million. Fox did not cover the debate because of the MLB National League playoff game, which averaged 7.26 million viewers. (Significantly, the game drew its biggest audience during the hour before the debate and the half-hour after it.) Most viewers remained tuned in to the debate analyses that followed. NBC counted 8.19 million viewers, ABC 8.00 million, and CBS 6.80 million. The late-night shows also led off with humorous political references, all of them written and taped before the debate actually occurred. (Indeed some of the jokes sounded as if they could have been tailor-made for Bob Hope. An example from David Letterman's spiel: "How about Barack Obama. He's going door to door, knocking on doors. It's fascinating. It's a throwback. I don't know if he's getting any votes, but today he came back with a big bag of Halloween candy.") Meanwhile, Fox said Wednesday that Major League Baseball had agreed to move the start time of Game Six of the World Series to 8:35 p.m. so that the Barack Obama campaign could "communicate with voters" on all four major broadcast networks during the 8:00 p.m. half hour. The campaign is reportedly paying nearly $1 million to each network for the October 29 special, details of which have not been disclosed.

John McCain to David Letterman: 'I Screwed Up'

16 October 2008 6:00 AM, PDT | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

John McCain made an apologetic appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, blaming nobody but himself for his much-ridiculed cancellation last month. "I screwed up. What can I say?" the Republican presidential nominee told Letterman on Thursday night's show. There was, however, a silver lining, said McCain. "Look at all the conversation I gave you," he told Letterman. The late-night host had been skewering the Arizona senator since he missed a Sept. 24 appearance during the momentary suspension of his campaign due to the economic crisis. "You called me an hour and a half [before showtime] and said, 'We've got to get right back to Washington,

D.L. Hughley Prepares for His Comedy Talk Show on CNN

15 October 2008 9:53 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Comedian actor, D.L. Hughley, is going to have his own comedy talk show on CNN. With tentative title "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News", the pilot will premiere on October 25 and the show will air every Saturday at 10 P.M. and will replay 24 hours later.

Hughley's show is a kind of news oriented talk show about politics, entertainment, sports, and pop culture. Like Hughley said, his talk show is more like David Letterman's and Jay Leno's program rather than Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show".

The comedian said on a statement, "I'm a big fan of both [the Daily Show and The Colbert Report], but I've got a different skill set. I'm not going to parody a news show or a news anchor. My show will reflect my views on things just as their shows reflect their views."

He described how he got into his way to CNN, "My agent called to say, 'What do you think about CNN?

John McCain and David Letterman are two of the country's biggest grouches, and they'll face off this week in the ultimate cranky battle. Or make nice. We're not sure yet. Today's News: Our Take - Amy Sedaris Inks Sitcom Deal, Guest Gig on The Closer

15 October 2008 6:56 AM, PDT | From TVGuide - Breaking News | See recent TVGuide.com - Breaking News news

Strangers with Candy alum Amy Sedaris is set to bring her oh-so-special brand of funny back to television, having signed a deal with 20th Century Fox TV to create, write and star in her own sitcom project, says the Hollywood Reporter. Hmm, Tina Fey 2.0?

The as-yet-untitled series is being fleshed out by Sedaris and writing partner Paul Dinello, but the premise is based on an idea Sedaris came up with six years ago. Dinello will direct the single-camera show, and no less than Sedaris Bff David Letterman's Worldwide Pants will co-produce.

But first, Sedaris will lens a two-episode arc on TNT's The Closer, playing Fritz's sister. (His psychic sister, TVGuide.com has learned.) Master interrogator Brenda Leigh might get a psychic for a sister-in-law? I smell a zany buddy comedy!
