Actor-turned-author Denis Leary fell in love with The Oprah Winfrey Show after he tuned in to prepare a scathing routine about the TV host.
Leary dedicated himself to watching the popular programme because he wanted to gather material to savage Oprah in his controversial book Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid.
But he soon got addicted to the show - and now wants to make a version for men, starring himself and fellow comedian Jon Stewart.
Leary tells USA Today newspaper, "The Oprah thing completely turned around on me. As soon as I started doing the research, I got sucked into the vortex of Oprah. I started watching episodes and reading the magazine (Oprah's magazine O). There's no male Oprah."
Asked about filming a men's version of the show, he adds: "Guys would listen. It could be me and Jon Stewart. You do the joke news, you do the scores because Stewart's a complete sports junkie."

Michael Rapaport has inked a development deal with CBS. The actor will develop, star in and produce an hour long project for the network. It will be produced by Denis Leary and Jim Serpico's Apostle Pictures, Sony TV and CBS Paramount TV. The untitled project, to be written by "Basketball Diaries" scribe Bryan Goluboff, is based on an idea Rapaport has tossed around for four years. It revolves around the lives of social workers in New York and is inspired by the experiences of a good friend of Rapaport's who is a social worker in the Big Apple. The blend of drama and comedy and the setting, an ensemble of public-service workers in New York, is reminiscent of Apostle's trademark series, FX's "Rescue Me," which stars Leary and is also co-produced by Sony TV. Rapaport’s past TV credits include recurring roles on Friends and My Name is Earl,

Latest: A planned protest against actor-turned-author Denis Leary's new book has been called off by autism activists after accepting the star's apology for scathing remarks he made against children suffering with the disorder.
The Rescue Me star sparked outrage among campaigners for young autism sufferers when an excerpt from his book, Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid, was printed in a U.S. newspaper last month.
In the book, Leary claims some parents use the brain development disorder as an excuse to explain their children's "laziness", and blames the surge in autism on "inattentive mothers and competitive dads".
But Leary defended himself against criticism and claimed his comments had been taken "out of context".
He has since issued two apologies for his remarks, and advocacy group Autism United has now forgiven him for his mistake.
Autism United spokesman and comedian Mark Anthony Ramirez has now cancelled the U.S.-wide boycott of the book, on the condition that Leary either omits the chapter in question, or donate some of the proceeds to charity.
Ramirez, whose own child has been diagnosed with autism, says, "I feel that Denis' apology was enough.
"But his claim that his comments were taken out of context is a veiled attempt to elicit more sales.
"As a parent of a child with autism, I feel he owes the autism community the money he is making for using what has quickly become an epidemic in our country as a cheap ploy to sell his book. He should donate a portion of his sales to assist children with autism."

Actor-turned-author Denis Leary has apologised for his scathing remarks against children suffering with autism - insisting his quotes were taken out of context by the media.
The Rescue Me sparked outrage among activists for young autism sufferers when an excerpt from his book Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid was printed in a U.S. newspaper earlier this month.
In the book, Leary claims some parents use the brain development disorder as an excuse to explain their children's "laziness", and blames the surge in autism on "inattentive mothers and competitive dads".
But Leary has taken a step back since landing in hot water over the remarks.
He tells the Boston Herald, "I apologise for any pain the out-of-context quotes from my book may have caused."

Well, well, well. Look who finally apologized! Denis Leary has finally apologized for the lame comments he made in his book about children with autism. In the book, Leary claims some parents use the brain development disorder as an excuse to explain their children’s "laziness", and blames the surge in autism on "inattentive mothers and competitive dads". But he’s taken a step back since landing in hot water over the remarks. One mother of a 6-year-old with Saugus actually even dared him to spend one hour of his day with her son. Instead of taking that...

Actor-turned-author Denis Leary's new lifestyle book has landed him in hot water again - after he defended his right to use homophobic language in the tome.
The Rescue Me star came under fire during an interview with American gay and lesbian magazine The Advocate, which quizzed him about his forthcoming book, Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid.
In the interview, reporter Brandon Voss confronts Leary over a chapter in the book titled Why Matt Damon Is A Giant F*g - asking why Leary deems it appropriate to use the derogatory term.
But Leary insists he didn't set out to cause offence - blaming his use of controversial language on his Irish Catholic parents.
He explains, "I also have a chapter called, 'We'd Hate You Even If You Weren't Black'. I don't believe in the power of words. My parents came from Ireland, where the c**t is literally a word your mother and father would use to describe the weather or the car: 'That c**ting car won't start!' And I come from a Catholic background where the nuns were always telling you, 'Don't do this, don't say this,' so any time anyone tells me I shouldn't say something, my reaction is, 'Why not?'"
Earlier this month, Leary came under fire for making controversial comments about children with autism in the book, claiming the parents of autistic children use the brain disorder as an excuse for "laziness".

Denis Leary, already under attack for making fun of autism, is now defending his right to call homosexual men "fags." And incredibly, he says the Catholic Church and his parents are to blame for his slurs.
The "Rescue Me" star is put on the defensive in an interview with next month's issue of gay magazine The Advocate, which grilled him about his upcoming book, "Why We Suck," and a chapter titled "Matt Dillon Is a Giant Fag."
"What gives you the right to use the 'F-word?' " demands interviewer Brandon Voss. "I also have a chapter called,

Latest: Actress Jenny McCarthy has branded Denis Leary "obviously stupid" over comments made in his new lifestyle book about children with autism.
The actor-turned-author sparked outrage among activists for young autism sufferers when an excerpt from Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid was printed in a U.S. newspaper on Wednesday.
In the book, Leary claims parents use the brain development disorder as an excuse to explain their children's "laziness".
But McCarthy, whose son Evan is autistic, is angry the Rescue Me star has spoken out on a topic she maintains he is misinformed about.
She tells Access Hollywood, "Whoo! First of all, let me tell you, the autism community has received probably 10,000 emails (saying) 'Go kill him! Go yell at him!'"
"(But) it's so hard to even get up enough juice in me or energy in me to even try to fight someone that is obviously stupid."
Leary has since released a statement claiming his comments had been taken out of context.

Latest: Actor-turned-author Denis Leary has blasted the press for its coverage of his new lifestyle book, insisting comments he made about children with autism have been taken out of context.
The Rescue Me star sparked outrage among activists for young autism sufferers when an excerpt from Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid was printed in a U.S. newspaper on Wednesday.
In the book, Leary claims parents are using the brain development disorder as an excuse to explain their children's "laziness".
According to the New York Post, in a chapter titled Autism Schmautism, he writes: "There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks... to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't (care) what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - yer (sic) kid is Not autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both."
But Leary has hit back at his detractors, insisting the journalist has failed to read his book in full because he actually supports those suffering from autism.
He says in a statement: "...If they have (read the book), they missed the sections I thought made my feelings about autism very clear: that I not only support the current rational approaches to the diagnoses and treatment of real autism but have witnessed it firsthand while watching very dear old friends raise a functioning autistic child."

Actor Denis Leary has sparked outrage among activists for children with autism - insisting parents are just using the disorder to explain their kids' academic "laziness".
Leary talks about the brain development disorder in his new book Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid.
He writes: "There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks... to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't (care) what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - your kid is Not autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both."
But the actor's comments have sparked outrage at The Autism Society of America.
A spokesperson for the group tells the New York Post: "For Mr. Leary to suggest that families or doctors conspire to falsely diagnose autism is ridiculous... (His) remarks reflect the same misconceptions of autism being caused by bad or unemotional parenting that were held over 50 years ago."

Denis Leary should brace himself for hate mail from the parents of kids diagnosed with autism.
In his new book, "Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid," the joke-slinging "Rescue Me" star writes about the brain disorder:
"There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons.

Actor/comedian Denis Leary has blasted the reality TV hosts of Sunday night's 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - because their lack of comic timing "offended" him.
Network executives capitalised on the growing reality TV craze by bestowing the M.C. honour upon the hosts of five popular U.S. shows - American Idol's Ryan Seacrest, Project Runway's Heidi Klum, Dancing with the Stars' Tom Bergeron, Deal or No Deal's Howie Mandel and Survivor's Jeff Probst.
And Leary is furious producers didn't consider him or one of his more talented colleagues for the gig - because he insists he saw them all cringing in the audience as the ceremony unfolded.
He says, "I don't mind losing, I'm just happy to be there. Which sounds cliche, except last night I went from being happy to be there to being incredibly bored.
"And I had no empathy for how bad these five hosts were. And after opening I was like, you know what? I want to see them crash and burn on live TV - I want to see them melt - except for Heidi Klum, I love her.
"I was offended as a comedian... I'm so sick and tired of people saying, 'You just write funny lines and put anybody up there' - No, to be funny is actually a job and it takes required training.
"I have material left over from Fashion Rocks, if they said to me, 'Hey, the whole show is crashing and burning. Can you get up there?' I could've been funnier than what was going on.
"And it just offended me as a comedian that this is what Hollywood thinks: That you put these four (sic) reality show announcers up there and they're going to run the show? No, it doesn't work that way. It takes years of drinking and self-abuse."

After the highs and lows of the Emmys show the party really got started. For many, the first stop was the Governor's Ball like Heidi in yet another gown before the other bashes. Lindsay Lohan came along for the ride and acted as a pillow for Samantha after a long weekend of gigs. Best Dressed candidate Hayden kept posing pretty before tonight's big Heroes return. The Mad Men folks had a lot to celebrate making history with their Best Drama Series win. The men left all the color to the ladies on the red carpet at the Emmys last night, keeping it tame in their dapper suits and tuxes. True to form, the Entourage boys walked and posed together, while Jeremy Piven and John Krasinski held their own with their hands in their pockets. Diddy hammed it up as usual, and Patrick Dempsey, Jon Hamm, and Neil Patrick Harris added just a little more dreaminess to the equation. Mark Wahlberg took a break from his newborn baby boy to hit the red carpet. Comedian Denis Leary stunned fans at the Fashion Rocks charity concert in New York on Friday by attacking Britney Spears, Ricky Martin and David Duchovny from the stage.
The Rescue Me star hosted the event which coincides with New York Fashion Week, and included performances from Beyoncé Knowles, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey and Rihanna.
And Leary left the crowd speechless with a foul-mouthed tirade, mocking Spears' recent breakdown; Martin's newborn twins; and ridiculing Duchovny's stint in rehab for sex addiction, reports the New York Daily News.
He told the audience, "Britney Spears will not be here tonight but we're gonna do a little Britney tribute later on. I'm gonna chug a bottle of NyQuil (cold medicine), do seven shots of vodka, shave my head and make out with members of the paparazzi and then I'm gonna leave my kids with Lil Wayne for about three and a half weeks.
"Ricky Martin will not be here tonight. He just had twins today. Surrogate mom. Yeah, they had to do it that way because babies don't come out of other men's asses.
"David Duchovny will not be here tonight. I think you know why. I don't really buy the sex addiction thing. Do you? If sex is an addiction, I might as well have my own wing at the Betty Ford Center."
All proceeds from the star-studded event will go to the Stand Up 2 Cancer charity.
