'Dirty Girl' Finds a New Company and a Colorful Cast

5 November 2009 3:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

It's time to go back into the memory banks a little bit. Remember when Richard Kelly started Darko Entertainment back in September of 2007? The first movie slated to hit production was Dirty Girl, with this psychological thriller called The Box slated to be movie numero dos. Now we're about to see what Kelly has in store for us with his third film, and Dirty Girl vanished into the ether ... until now.

The Hollywood Reporter posts that the movie is still in the works -- now in the hands Ideal Partners, Killer Films, and Paris Film -- and has got its cast: Juno Temple, Sally Hawkins, William H. Macy, and Lisa Kudrow. Marking Abe Sylvia's feature directorial debut, the film focuses on "a high school tramp who runs away with the school's gay, fat kid in his homophobic dad's stolen car." Got all that? Variety chose to lighten the impact »

Casting Notes: Michael Fassbender Fires A Single Shot; William H. Macy and More in Dirty Girl; Goth Icon Peter Murphy Cameos in Twilight 3

5 November 2009 9:50 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

It's casting notes time again! First up, Michael Fassbender, the British film critic lieutenant from Inglourious Basterds, has been cast in the thriller A Single Shot, working under director David Jacobson. He's appearing alongside a great cast: William H. Macy, Thomas Haden Church and a newly slim Forest Whitaker. (Seriously, check out this pic of Whitaker in The Experiment. Give the guy a sandwich!) Fassbender will be a poacher on the run from killers -- we don't yet know the killers, but it's not difficult to speculate that Church and Whitaker might be the guys.[Variety] After the break, more William H. Macy news, with Juno Temple, and an on-the-nose vampiric turn from the guy who reminded us that Bela Lugosi is dead. Macy will also be in Dirty Girl, with a cast that now includes Lisa Kudrow, Sally Hawkins and Juno Temple. First-timer Abe Sylvia is directing the film about »

Sally Hawkins Finally Getting Cast In More Roles

5 November 2009 6:18 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Since she first came to the attention of many moviegoers (like myself) with her completely loony and lovable performance in Happy-Go-Lucky last year, Sally Hawkins has been pretty much missing from the movie scene. She has a tiny, tiny scene in An Education, and will be in Never Let Me Go with Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley next year, but thus far hasn't done that post-buzz overexposure-- and thank God for that. In keeping with her tendency to take roles in tiny indies, Hawkins is moving on to Dirty Girl, the directorial debut from Abe Sylvia about two teenagers-- a trampy girl and a overweight gay boy-- who team up to find the girl's real father. Variety writes that Hawkins and William H. Macy have signed on, though it doesn't say how they'll fit into the story. The movie already stars Lisa Kudrow along with Juno Temple and Jeremy Dozier, »

Hawkins and H.Macy Raise Juno Temple to be a 'Dirty Girl'

5 November 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- I may one day eat my words on this one, but I think Juno Temple will pan out to be a better Brit find than Carey Mulligan - she was a bright spot in the ordinary Mr. Nobody and I'm looking forward in American lingo garb in Gregg Araki's Kaboom and Noah Baumbach's Greenbern). According to the trades, Temple, Sally Hawkins and William H. Macy will join Abe Sylvia on his feature length directorial debut titled Dirty Girl. According to Screen Daily, the supporting cast is comprised of newcomer Jeremy Dozier and the already cast Lisa Kudrow. The film is being produced by Paris Film's Rob Paris, Charles Pugliese, Jana Edelbaum and Rachel Cohen while Killer Films' Vachon, Pam Koffler and Michael Lesser are exec producing. A commercials director, Sylvia penned the screenplay about the search for identity and the redemptive power of unexpected friendship. Danielle »

Warner Bros. Picks Up Dirty Old Men

2 November 2009 11:07 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

The good folks over at Warner Brothers have picked up a new spec comedy script by writers Josh Cagan and Greg Coolidge, titled Dirty Old Men. The script centers around two old "players", one of which has finally met the love of his life, and the other, his best friend and wingman for the past 40 years, who is determined to break the relationship up at any cost. So, just another comedy script, eh? No sir! The flick so far has the ever busy and always entertaining Morgan Freeman attached to play the role of the wingman, and currently Warners are shooting for a reunion between Freeman and Jack Nicholson, his co-star of the 2007 comedy The Bucket List (which had the two playing a couple of old geezers trying to fulfill a list of their dreams before they kicked the bucket). Nicholson isn't the only one in demand though; the director »

Lisa Kudrow gets ready for "Rapture"

27 October 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

Lisa Kudrow, whom I’ve crushed on since she kissed Rachel and said, “I’ve had better,” has always been a friend to the Lgbt community. And her latest project is no exception.

Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky, who worked with her on The Comeback, are developing a comedy for Showtime based on the book Why the Long Face? by Craig Chester. The TV series, Rapture, is the story of Chester growing up as the gay son of born-again Christian parents.

If you don’t recognize Chester’s name, you may remember him from playing Nathan Leopold in Swoon or Adam in Adam & Steve, which he also directed.

Ok, I didn’t like Adam & Steve, but that’s beside the point.

Chester’s book is full of both humor and sadness, in much the same way Augusten Burroughs’ books are. Chester isn’t nearly as funny as Burroughs, but the story »
