The first ever teaser trailer has premiered for the upcoming fantasy film, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. The incredibly long titled film is an adaptation of a series of books that bare more than passing resemblance to the Harry Potter series. The film follows a teenage boy, Percy, who discovers he is actually the son of the god Poseidon. Percy then sets out on a quest to settle a war between the Greek gods.
Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone/Chamber of Secrets) directed Percy Jackson, which stars Logan Lerman as the titular character, and Catherine Keener as his mother. The list of actors playing the Greek gods are Sean Bean as Zeus, Uma Thurman as Medusa, Kevin McKidd as Poseidon, Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Rosario Dawson as Persephone, Ray Winstone as Ares, Steve Coogan as Hades and Melina Kanakaredes as Athena.
Sadly, none of

Attached to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in theatres this week is the teaser trailer for a brand new fantasy film franchise called Percy Jackson & The Olympians. I hadn't even heard of this young adult series until now, but the premise sounds pretty cool even if the teaser trailer doesn't show much worth getting excited about (yet). Written by Rick Riordan, the Percy Jackson books are about a 12-year-old boy who discovers that he is the son of Poseidon, and that the gods of Greek mythology still exist today. The first book is called The Lightning Thief and the movie is directed by Chris Columbus, who of course did the first two Harry Potter flicks. Clearly they're hoping this series will be able to carry on in place of the Harry Potter franchise once it wraps up. Thus far there are five main books in the series plus two spin-off titles,

A sneak peek at "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" has been made available for viewing pleasure through its brand new teaser trailer. Less than two minutes long, the promotional video which comes out via Moviefone doesn't offer much but to give a look at main character Percy Jackson, Mount Olympus and how Percy reaches the mountain of the gods.
Discovering that he is the half-human son of the god of the sea, Poseidon, 12-year-old Percy learns that the legendary beings of Greek mythology still exist in Mount Olympus which is located on the mythical 600th floor of the Empire State Building. But, being one of the "Big Three" children, he is frequently put under attack by monsters.
In this adaptation of Rick Riordan's first novel in the "Percy Jackson & The Olympians" series, Percy goes on an adventure of a lifetime as he embarks on a journey across modern-day America to save his mother,

AOL has just debuted the teaser trailer for Percy Jackson and#038; the Olympians: The Lightning Thief which is based on the book by Rick Riordon and due in theaters on February 12. The film is directed by Chris Columbus who just suffered a massive failure with I Love You Beth Cooper, but with this fantasy epic he appears to be returning to the a world not unlike the first two Harry Potter films which found Columbus plenty of success. The story centers on Poseidon's 12-year-old half-human son Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman), who embarks on a quest across modern-day America to save his mother, return Zeus' stolen lightning bolt and prevent a deadly war between the gods. Rounding out the casting is Catherine Keener who will play Percy's mother, Uma Thurman as Medusa, Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Sean Bean as Zeus, Kevin McKidd as Poseidon and Melina Kanakerides as Athena. - #7. Where the Wild Things Are Director/Writer: Spike Jonze - co-writer Dave Eggers (Away We Go) Producers: John B. Carls, Gary Goetzman, Tom Hanks, Vincent Landay and Maurice SendakDistributor: Warner Bros. The Gist: This is based on the classic children's book by Maurice Sendak. Published in 1963, this follows the adventures of Max, a head-strong young boy who leaves home after having a fight with his mother (Catherine Keener) -- only to find himself in a mysterious forest bordering a vast sea. Misunderstood and rebellious, Max sets sail to the land of the Wild Things, where mischief reigns. The adventure film will use a unique process to bring the story to life, incorporating the most dynamic elements of voice performance, live-action puppetry and computer animation. Fact: We feel for Spike. This film has gone thru post-production hell. Unconfirmed re-shoots, edits, CGI add-ons, etc. Why is it on the list?:

Reed’s Bargain Bin [1] is a recurring column where Reed Farrington tells us about a movie he bought for under $5, and whether or not he regrets the purchase. Despite the clever title and participation of Al Pacino, S1m0ne did not receive much attention from critics or movie theatre audiences when it came out in 2002. The director, Andrew Niccol, had some acclaim as a result of having directed Gattaca (a smart science fiction film about a physically defective human in a genetically manipulated world) and having written The Truman Show (a smart allegorical film about a man who's oblivious to the fact that his life has been manufactured for the purposes of a television show). S1m0ne also has a high concept idea behind it: a movie director creates a computer generated actor who becomes a star while only he knows that the actor is computer generated. I think I’ve had

Synopsis: A theater director struggles with his work, and the women in his life, as he attempts to create a life-size replica of New York inside a warehouse as part of his new play.
Written and Directed by Charlie Kaufman. Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Tom Noonan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michelle Williams, Samantha Morton, Hope Davis and Emily Watson.
Review:
Charlie Kaufman is a genius.
Many people shared this view long before they would or will have watched “Synecdoche, New York” but the deeply layered, emotional and sometimes frustrating storytelling behind his work can only fairly be described as genius at this point. Never before has Kaufman delved so deeply into the human psyche, than in this film. That may sound like a grand statement about the man who has made such exploratory films as “Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind” and “Adaptation”, but I feel it is true.

"CSI:ny" star Melina Kanakaredes draws on her Greek heritage for tonight's all-new episode on CBS -- which she wrote! Our own Lara Spencer picked up Melina at the nearby "CSI:ny" set -- just a hop, skip and a jump from the "Insider" soundstage -- for a fun interview. "I've been a big Greek history buff for years," says Melina. "The first 'CSI' had gone to England and 'CSI: Miami' went somewhere else, so I thought we could start out season five in Greece. How cool would this be, because my character is half Greek on the show." In the episode entitled "Grounds for Deception," Melina's character Stella discovers that New Yorkers are being murdered over ancient Greek artifacts. Determined to follow the clues that lead to Greece, she hands over her badge and, together with Mac (Gary Sinise), she uncovers one of the greatest mysteries in history! Between the show and writing an episode,

We’ll admit that, at first, we weren’t really paying a whole lot of attention to Chris Columbus’ new film, Percy Jackson, based on a children’s book about the half-human son of the Greek God, Poseidon, and his journey across America in an attempt to prevent a war between the Gods. But Columbus’ casting choices for his kids’ book adaptation have made us sit up and take notice, and today’s addition of Rosario Dawson and Steve Coogan to the cast haven’t hurt.Coogan has signed on to play the nefarious Hades which, given his penchant for playing petty little men like Alan Partridge, should be one of the film’s comedic standouts. Dawson, meanwhile, will play Hades’ imprisoned wife, Persephone, who catches the eye of Percy’s best friend, Grover (Brandon T. Jackson). The duo join a cast that’s virtually bursting at the seams, including Pierce Brosnan,

- We have The Playlist to thank for shedding light on the maligned condition in which David O. Russell's Nailed has unfortunately found itself in. We knew that Capitol Films the parent company to ThinkFilm struggled to keep creditors happy and paused production on more than one occasion - but I thought production had resumed and the director had stitched some version together as he was attaching himself to several projects. Unlike Margaret (the film is caught in post-production hell), Nailed should never see the day of light because it is, as Playlist describes it “missing key scenes and has been basically abandoned by the principle post-production players.” Based on the first novel by Kristin Gore entitled "Sammy's Hill" and written by Russell and Gore, Jessica Biel played Sammy Joyce, a socially awkward small-town receptionist who has a nail accidentally shot into her head by a clumsy workman, eliciting wild sexual urges.
