People Predicts Tonight's Grammy Nominations

2 December 2009 12:40 PM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Who will score big when the nominations for the 52nd annual Grammy Awards are announced Wednesday night? People music critic Chuck Arnold predicts the frontrunners - and outside contenders - in the Big Four categories. Album of the Year There's no clear front-runner for this year's big prize, but it's always hard to bet against U2 - which is why I'm tapping No Line on the Horizon even though it was not as big as 2004's Grammy-winning How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. It's also pretty hard to deny Taylor Swift with the mega-selling Fearless and her recent sweep at the CMAs. »

"Britain's Got Talent" runner-up Susan Boyle is exactly the kind of Christmas present the beleaguered music industry has been looking for. In a season that typically provides a plethora of button-bursting mega-releases, Boyle's I Dreamed a Dream will smash sales records on the way to a #1 debut on the Billboard 200 chart next week.

According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, Dream moved just shy of 701,000 albums in its first week on the charts, which gives Boyle the 2009 sales crown in the U.S. over Eminem's Relapse, which sold 608,000. Boyle also topped the record for the highest debut by a female solo artist in the SoundScan era, Ashanti's self-titled 2002 debut, which held the previous record at 503,000.

The 2010 Grammy Nominees Revealed ... Possibly

Once again, we take a stab at who will be going home with golden phonographs in Bigger Than the Sound.

It's not exactly breaking news to fans of Bigger Than the Sound (hi, Mom!) that I fancy myself quite the prognosticator, particularly when it comes to awards shows. This is partially because I consider myself an expert on these kinds of things, but also because I have a huge gambling problem.

In previous years, I've tried my hand at picking the winners of the MTV Video Music Awards and predicting the Grammy nominees, with varying degrees of success (who among us can forget my triumphant 3-for-8 turn at the 2008 VMAs? Or, conversely, my dismal 2-for-2,000 run at the 2009 Grammys?) And so, buoyed by my successes — and fueled by my failures — I've decided to continue the tradition with this year's Grammy noms, which »

The late E. Lynn Harris

A: The “E” stands for “Everette,” which is such a cool name that it’s a shame he chose to go only by his first initial.

According to Bet, Harris had previously sold the movie rights to most of his twelve published books and two unreleased ones, but there is currently some confusion as to who exactly owns those rights.

Still, several books already have movies in the works, and scripts have been written for three: Not a Day Goes By, I Say a Little Prayer, »

'Dancing with the Stars' Finale Ratings Lowest Since First Season

25 November 2009 2:33 PM, PST | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

If the ratings were any indication, not a lot of people were keen to see the outcome of Dancing with the Stars this season. Around 19.2 million people tuned in to ABC to see Donny Osmond take home the mirror ball trophy, the smallest audience for the show's finale since its inaugural season - and, ironically so, in the same one with the biggest cast of celebrities.

And it wasn't a bad show at all. After all, comeback-ing diva Whitney Houston performed back to back tracks, including "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" while five couples took the dance floor, including fan favorites Mark Ballas, Lacey Schwimmer, Cheryl Burke, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

TV Bites: Donny and Whitney

25 November 2009 6:30 AM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

· So it took nine long seasons (and an under-the-table deal that Tom Bergeron will only drive an I Look to You-skinned batmobile until 2012) but Dancing With the Stars finally convinced pop-gospel legend Whitney Houston to sing her career-making single, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" on last night's season finale. The strained performance (after the jump) did not move winner Donny Osmond enough to warrant a bouquet of purple roses and a private "Puppy Love" serenade, but it did upstage Cloris Leachman and Steve Wozniak's Mambo redux.

The new champion of "Dancing with the Stars" who takes over the disco ball trophy from last season's winner Shawn Johnson is Donny Osmond. 'Dancing with the Stars' Finale Live Thoughts: And the Winner Is...

It's here, the big two-hour Dancing with the Stars finale extravaganza.  There will be comedy, dancing, a lot more comedy, a little more dancing, Whitney Houston and then, at the very end, about 10 seconds of actual results.

Dancing with the Stars is down to show biz legend (legend being a code word for old man) Donny Osmond, fan favorite Kelly Osbourne and the rightful winner Mya.  I know Dancing with the Stars is about popularity and voting and an objective measurement of a person's fame, but if it were just about dance, Mya would win. »

What's On: They Wanna Dance with Whitney

24 November 2009 12:45 PM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Last night, Dancing With the Stars sweetheart Kelly Osbourne brought a James Franco-sized dose of meta performance art to part one of the season finale. During her freestyle routine, the star hustled and cha-cha-ed to "I Will Survive" before taking a devastating tumble, but Osbourne quickly rallied by picking herself off the floor and touch-dancing her way through the rest of the number as her family cheered on. Her fall most likely knocked her out of the running for first place, but Osbourne can sit back and lick her wounds as fellow survivor Whitney Houston takes the stage to perform "Million Dollar Bill" and her classic "I Wanna Dance With Somebody." »
