Two del Toro Puppet Projects In Development

18 November 2008 1:05 AM, PST | From MovieBlog.Ugo.com | See recent Ugo MovieBlog news

Guillermo del Toro and Mike Mignola recently spoke with Bloody Disgusting about all things Hellboy as well as what Mr. Hobbit has lined up in his future. One project he’s really excited for is Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. “You know, I am really exited about Don’T Be Afraid Of The Dark, which is being directed by Troy Nixon.  The original TV movie that it’s based on was so scary when I was a kid. I think that the version that we are doing is really good! Also, I am really excited about Splice, which is a Vincenzo Natali [Cube] film - it’s a really new take on a monster movie.” He also mentions The Orphanage remake: “The remake of The Orphanage is shaping up to be really interesting, if it happens the way I think it will.” “We are trying to get a full

Del Toro Plans Pinocchio Movie

17 November 2008 11:03 AM, PST | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Hellboy director Guillermo Del Toro is in talks with puppeteers at the Jim Henson Co. to take fairytale Pinocchio to the big screen.

The Mexican filmmaker plans to add a dark spin to the children's story, and is working on a screenplay with Gris Grimly, who illustrated a 2002 animated version of Pinocchio.

During an interview with Bloodydisgusting.com, Del Toro reveals he expects the project to take three years to complete.

If it reaches the big screen, Del Toro will have gone one better than director Francis Ford Coppola, whose attempt to make a Pinocchio movie in the 1990s ended in a messy legal battle with Warner Bros.

Del Toro Producing Pinocchio Movie

16 November 2008 10:13 PM, PST | From EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news

We’re not sure how he finds the time to even add projects to his slate, let alone make them, but Guillermo del Toro has gone and done it anyway, putting Pinocchio on his ever-growing to-do list.Because of prior commitments, including The Hobbit, Frankenstein, Drood and Lizard In A Blizzard, Del Toro will only be executive producing and co-writing this version. Well, we say only…This version of Carlo Collodi’s classic tale will be a world away from Disney’s colourful take – instead, it’ll be a darker story, told in stop-motion animation, with The Jim Henson Co. already on board. Brian Henson, Lisa Henson and Jason Lust will produce. The movie will be co-written and directed by Gris Grimly, who has experience with Pinocchio – he illustrated a version of the tale in 2002. "The idea came from Gris, and everybody loves his book about it,” Del Toro told Bloodydisgusting.

Guillermo del Toro Producing Stop-Motion 'Pinocchio'

16 November 2008 2:03 PM, PST | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

Either writer/director/producer/caterer Guillermo del Toro came across a gap in his schedule for the next five decades, he's allergic to rest, or he's afraid that Luc Besson might beat him to it, but the man has decide to act as executive producer on a stop-motion version of Pinocchio that he's developing with the Jim Henson Company.

Mind you, this is already in addition to his coming duties on The Hobbit, Frankenstein, Drood, next week's Rosenberg bar mitzvah over in Glendale, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and a couple of other projects as well (with any luck, a third Hellboy film is among them).

According to Variety, del Toro is currently working on the screenplay with Gris Grimly, whose strikingly illustrated children's books I've only very recently been introduced to, and Grimly will then co-direct with Adam Parrish King, he of much sound editing background (which really ought

Now here's some good news to brighten your weekend; a darker, more horror-friendly version of Pinocchio is being developed by Guillermo del Toro, The Jim Henson Company and Gris Grimly, according to Variety. Wow, with a team like that behind it, you know it’s going to be interesting if nothing else.

The project is being developed as a stop-motion animation film, with del Toro on as executive producer, Brian and Lisa Henson producing and the screenplay courtesy of del Toro and Grimly. Grimly and Adam Parrish King will co-direct the film, which will take about three years to finish.

Del Toro discussed the project with Bloody Disgusting a few days ago, and revealed that the idea of a more perverse Pinocchio came out of Grimly’s head, who dreamed up a tale that involved Pinocchio realizing upon his creation how much more fun it is to be bad than it is to be good,

Guillermo Del Toro's Nose Is Growing

15 November 2008 4:22 PM, PST | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

Really, how seriously are we supposed to take any announcement of a project that Guillermo del Toro is working on? He's booked solid for the next decade, and yet, the guy just can't say no. The latest project bound to suffer from his neglect will be Pinocchio, a stop-motion feature he'll work on with the Jim Henson Muppet factory to make a darker version of the fairy tale we all know from Disney. Del Toro is executive producing as well as working on the screenplay, according to an interview he did with Bloody Digusting, so at least he doesn't seem to have a delusional belief that he has time to direct it. I don't want to suggest that I think del Toro should stop working on movies-- lord knows he's a one-of-a-kind visionary-- but it's hard to get excited when he's spreading himself too thin. I'd be pumped beyond belief

Maybe Guillermo del Toro will just turn entirely into Tim Burton and we can have the two be surgically joined at the hip and work on the same films forever as news now turns to the latest flick pasted to del Toro's producing filmography as Bloody-Disgusting reports he is now working with the Jim Henson Co. on a stop-motion feature adaptation of Pinocchio. The twist is that it will be "a darker version of the original fairy tale." Oooo, scary long nose man! Variety has expanded on the Bd report where del Toro revealed he is working on the screenplay with Gris Grimley, who illustrated a 2002 version of "Pinocchio" with news that Grimley and Adam Parrish King are set to co-direct the film. Guillermo del Toro's Two Full Puppet Projects - Pinocchio Included!

13 November 2008 9:03 AM, PST | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

With Guillermo del Toro working on writing and pre-production for The Hobbit, one would've thought it would be impossible for him to be thinking about anything else. Well, Bloody Disgusting brings us some news to the contrary today and shares some details on two new projects that weren't even on his Roadmap to 2017. The interesting thing is that both of them are puppet based projects - which is quite timely considering Hellboy II just hit DVD and the entire opening sequence to that film was done with puppets. First up, Guillermo confirms that he's trying to get a full stop-motion version of Gris Grimly's Pinocchio into production, and second, that he's got a full-scale puppet movie of his own in the works. Guillermo explains, "We are trying to get a full stop-motion version of Gris Grimly's Pinocchio off the ground, with the Jim Henson Company. The idea came from Gris,

Guillermo del Toro Wants to Pull Pinocchio's Strings

13 November 2008 5:40 AM, PST | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

About six weeks ago, it was announced that Guillermo del Toro had a full schedule of movies that would take him through 2017.

Between The Hobbit films and a host of remakes (Frankenstein, Slaughterhouse-Five), and others, del Toro was going to be very, very busy. In fact, I think he's probably spreading himself a little too thin, knowing the scopes of most of these projects.

But he's still thinking about what else he can do, including a stop-motion Pinocchio and a feature length film...starring puppets.

"We are trying to get a full stop-motion version of Gris Grimly’s Pinocchio off the ground, with the Jim Henson Company," Del Toro told Bloody-Disgusting. "The original story is far more perverse and spooky and [has a] semi-necrophilia vibe to it in certain aspects. A Noir Puppet Movie?

16 October 2008 12:27 PM, PDT | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

In an act that almost feels like it should have the name "Joss Whedon" attached to it, the Jim Henson Company has announced the development of a new film project called The Happytime Murders. This original film noir murder mystery will fall under the company's Henson Alternative banner, a division that develops projects not intended for children (such as Puppet Up! and Tinseltown). From writer Todd Berger:

"In a world where humans and puppets live together (not exactly in harmony), the puppet cast of an '80s children's TV show called The Happytime Gang begins to get muderered one by one. It's then up to a disgraced puppet Lapd detective turned private eye to take the case. Based on a story Dee Austin Robertson and Todd Berger, the original feature film will feature the well-known Henson style of irreverence and parody while presenting a unique twist on the film noir genre.

Jim Henson Co. Goes Noir?!

15 October 2008 12:02 PM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

Muppet fever is in the air these days. Jason Segel got The Jim Henson Co. to help him whip up those awesome puppets for Forgetting Sarah Marshall. That led to the funny man getting the honor of making a new Muppet movie. And now we're getting more Hensonesque film awesomeness. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the company is going to the adult world of film noir.

Oh yes -- they've whipped up a murder mystery called The Happytime Murders (written by Todd Berger from a story created with Dee Austin Robertson), and Brian Henson will direct it. In this tale of adult puppet goodness, there's an alternate world where puppets and humans co-exist -- but not exactly peacefully -- the puppets are considered second-class citizens. The murder comes in when "the puppet cast of an '80s children's TV show called 'The Happytime Gang' begins to get murdered one by one,
