Aaron Eckhart moves up from district attorney and supporting player to platoon leader and star of the original Sf tale, Battle: Los Angeles.
Columbia Pictures optioned Chris Bertolini (The General’s Daughter)’s screenplay back in April. The story spotlights a Marine platoon’s attempts to repel invaders from the stars. “I love the idea, and I love the script. I like it all,” Producer Neal Moritz of Original Films told The Hollywood Reporter. “We are going to be in production within six months. What’s attractive to me is that it’s a huge event movie that can be done at a modest scale.”
Production is gaining momentum with shooting eyed for early next year and a 2010 release date. No other casting has been announced.
Eckhart has appeared in The Dark Knight, of course, but also gained notice for his work in In the Company of Men and Thank You for Smoking.

After spending the past couple years charming our pants off, Aaron Eckhart is switching things up a bit. Teaming up with Columbia Pictures, the actor will star in a sci-fi actioner.
Aaron Eckhart for Battle: Los Angeles
Directed by Jonathan Liebesman off a script by Chris Bertolini, Battle: Los Angeles revolves around a Marine platoon's encounter in the battle on the streets of Los Angeles against an alien invasion. Eckhart has been cast to play the platoon leader.
Yes, I know the plot could go either way -- badass or retarded -- but having Aaron Eckhart in the lead role definitely boosts confidence.

You know, you would think that after starring in one of the biggest movies of all time, Aaron Eckhart might want to take a break from the world of big-budgeted action movies. Then again, he probably knows better than anyone that sometimes those small indie films can really get you into trouble. So, in the spirit of 'safe bets', The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Eckhart will star in the sci-fi action flick, Battle: Los Angeles.
Chris Bertolini's (The General's Daughter) script centers on an alien invasion that has landed in the streets of La. Eckhart would play the leader of a platoon of Marines who are the last line of defense in the invasion. Jonathan Liebesman (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) has already signed to direct the film for Columbia Pictures, although a start date for the production has yet to be finalized.
Since his 'debut' in 1997's In the Company of Men,

Aaron Eckhart, who was recently seen as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The Dark Knight, has joined Battle: Los Angeles. This will be the first time Eckhart takes the lead in an action movie, and I am sure having a large role in the biggest film of the year had a little something to do with it. Written by Chris Bertolini, the plot centers on a Marine platoon’s battle against alien invaders in Los Angeles. The trade says Eckhart will stars as the platoon leader.
Not much else is known about the project at this stage. Liebesman’s directing credits also include the catastrophic “Darkness Falls” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.”
Eckhart was last seen as Two-Face in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight." Other roles include "No Reservations" and "Thank You For Smoking."
The actor has some previous experience starring as a lead in an action flick: in 2003, he lead a crew down to the core of the Earth in "The Core."

"The Dark Knight" star Aaron Eckhart has been tapped to battle aliens in L.A. in a new sci-fi action flick, "Battle: Los Angeles."
The 40-year-old actor, who played villain Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the smash 2008 Batman film, will be playing the leader of a platoon in combat against invading aliens.
Jonathan Liebesman will be directing for Columbia, while Neal Moritz and his Original Film company are producing, as per the Hollywood Reporter.
The new project puts Eckhart on the lead role on an action movie for the first time. He had been involved in less mainstream films, including 1997's "In The Company of Men," in which he won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Debut Performance and the Satellite Award for Outstanding New Talent.

Leaving behind his villainous character in "The Dark Knight", Aaron Eckhart will be battling aliens in "Battle: Los Angeles". According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 40-year-old actor has been attached to play the leader of a platoon who is involved in a struggle against alien invasion.
Though he has generated several acclaimed performances in the movie biz through "Erin Brockovich", "In the Company of Men" and "Thank You for Smoking", this role will be Eckhart's first of being a leading man in an action movie. Before this movie comes out, he is expected to star opposite Jennifer Aniston in Brandon Camp's romantic drama "Traveling".
"Battle: Los Angeles" will be directed by "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" helmer, Jonathan Liebesman. Revolving around a Marine platoon's encounter in the battle on the streets of Los Angeles against an alien invasion, the movie is scripted by Chris Bertolini and is produced

Aaron Eckhart was in the biggest movie of the year and one of the biggest movies of all time and now he's finally getting his due. Eckhart has signed on to his first lead role in a big-budget action flick, the Sony sci-fi project Battle: Los Angeles. Eckhart will play Sgt. Nantz, a Marine who's sent in to kick some alien ass and take names. The film is basically the story of an alien invasion in Los Angeles because aliens are obviously going to invade La first. Described as Black Hawk Down meets Independence Day, Battle revolves around a Marine platoon's encounter in the battle on the streets of Los Angeles against an alien invasion. Eckhart will play the platoon leader. The flick was written by Chris Bertolini, whose only other credit is the John Travolta drama The General’s Daughter. Liebesman previously directed the horror flicks Darkness Falls and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and was hired for Battle after he wowed Columbia with a presentation that showed his specific vision and passion for the project. Battle is eyeing a 2010 release but has yet to set a start date.

Say what you will about Billy Dee Williams; I really think Aaron Eckhart pulled off the best portrayal of Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, so his addition to the cast of Jonathan (TCM: The Beginning) Liebsman’s Battle: Los Angeles gives me a bit more hope for the film than I previously had.
According to THR, Eckhart will play a Marine whose platoon goes head-to-head with an alien invasion on the streets of La. No start date is set for Battle: Los Angeles yet, but since casting is underway I’m sure it won’t be much longer to wait.
There’s not a helluva lot to update you guys on, so just keep it here for more intel as we gather it!

Aaron Eckhart's brilliant turn in The Dark Knight as Harvey Dent has finally earned him the kind of career he deserves. Hollywood has sat up, taken notice, and now they're giving him the lead in a big-budget film. The movie according to Hr, is a sci-fi action flick called Battle: Los Angeles. The plot is pretty standard alien invasion stuff. A marine platoon, led by Aaron Eckhart, must battle attacking aliens in the streets of Los Angeles. Odds that they get help from local gangbangers? I'd say almost certain. I know, it sounds like a pretty empty, lame flick. Look, give Eckhart this one. His spent his entire career doing low-budget, smart, challenging, and probably low-paying indie movies. Every once in awhile, you have to let the guy do The Core to make a little cash. He deserves it. Go get paid Harvey Dent. We won't hold it against you.

Brandon Camp, director of the forthcoming Jennifer Aniston/Aaron Eckhart romantic drama Traveling, has chosen his next project: Choose. A thriller about a journalism grad student (Katheryn Winnick) hunting down a serial killer with the help of her detective dad (Kevin Pollak) and a psychiatrist (Bruce Dern), Choose represents something of a sea change for Camp from Traveling, which will be released next year. However, he’s only wearing his writing-producing hat for this one, along with his partner, Mike Thompson. Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor turned second unit director, Robert Legato, is the one calling the shots on the film, which is currently shooting in New York. We wish them well: Empire is always interested to see movies about crusading journalists, although we're not sure about the whole hunting for a serial killer business. People might start to get ideas...

Aaron Eckhart has signed on to star in Jonathan Liebesman’s alien invasion action movie, Battle: Los Angeles. Eckhart will play the leader of a platoon of marines who engage an alien threat in the streets of the City of Angels in the movie, which sounds to us like Aliens meets Cloverfield. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Nor is there anything wrong with the casting of Eckhart, who has long deserved to be a bigger star than he is. He’s made a move on the A-list before, but that was with The Core, so it’s probably best forgotten about. But, with The Dark Knight just about to hit the billion dollar mark worldwide, the man who is Two-Face is finally capitalising on some of that heat. And good for him. (One thing, though: does this rule him out of the running for Captain America? Shame,

Aaron Eckhart is probably crossing his fingers that his next sci-fi movie works out better than The Core. I mean, you can watch that thing and tell the actors know it's a bad movie.
Anyway, Eckhart, who has earned his stripes as an indie leading man with great roles in In the Company of Men and Thank You for Smoking and has tested the waters of blockbusters with his turn as Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, will star in a sci-fi action flick called Battle: Los Angeles, directed by Jonathan Liebesman.
The Hollywood Reporter indicates that it's being fashioned as a star vehicle for the versatile Eckhart, in which he will lead a Marine platoon leader who battles an alien invasion in Los Angeles. The big twist here is that, for once, it's not New York under attack.
As a director Liebesman is best known for Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.

News about Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan film franchise has unfolded faster than one of the author's fictional terrorist plots. First came word that Sam Raimi was dropping out of the planned Ryan relaunch, then a report that the film was still a go ahead despite the director's departure. Now, Moviehole reports that The Dark Knight star Aaron Eckhart is being tapped to take over the spy franchise.
"Harrison Ford apparently won’t be getting another look in as Jack Ryan," says the site. "We’re told since this is a complete reboot of the series the studio wants someone new to play the literary hero.
"Rumored to be among the names on that wish list is Aaron Eckhart."
Moviehole states that while no offers have been made, Eckhart is "a name that keeps popping up in relation to the part of Ryan, so someone over [at Paramount] obviously likes him."
