Soderbergh Directing Play in Australia, Pessimistic About Film

15 July 2009 3:08 PM, PDT | From /Film | See recent /Film news

Yesterday a tipster wrote in to Jeff Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere to say that Steven Soderbergh is going to direct a play for Cate Blanchett's theatre company in Sydney, Australia. And, indeed, on the Sydney Theatre Co website there's a small printed exchange between Blanchett and Andrew Upton, the co-creative directors for the company, announcing an untitled stage project. Details and more after the break. Here's the cute announcement: Andrew: Steven Soderbergh? Cate: He made Sex, Lies, and Videotape when he was about seven. He made the Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen capers. He was nominated for an Academy Award for two films in the same year: Traffic and Erin Brockovich. We met him when I made The Good German. Andrew: Just because you can make a good film doesn’t necessarily mean you can direct a play, does it? Cate: Not necessarily, but trust me, this guy could direct the phonebook.

Sorry ... We're Getting More 'Bridget Jones'

15 July 2009 9:03 AM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

After that stellar piece of cinema known as Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, I know you've all been dying for Renee Zellweger to put on some weight again and grab the role for a third time. Break out the party favors because now your wish is going to come true!

Variety reports that Working Title is scheming up a third movie in the series for Zellweger to once again star in. The project is still in the early stages -- a writer and director have not been picked -- but it "will likely be based on the weekly columns author Helen Fielding wrote in 2005 ... in which Bridget, now in her 40s, attempts to have a baby before it's too late." Yes, Jones wants to reproduce. Does anyone actually want to see this?

In the piece, which also reports that Cate Blanchett will star in Joe Wright's Indian Summer,

Cate Blanchett Boards Joe Wright's 'Indian Summer'

15 July 2009 2:07 AM, PDT | From Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Back in March it was announced Joe Wright's follow-up to The Soloist would be Indian Summer based on the book of the same name by Alex von Tunzelmann. After taking to Los Angeles for The Soloist, Wright said he "was looking for something that was primarily about the British experience" for his next film and Indian Summer filled the bill focusing on the last days of Britain's colonial rule in India and the symbolic end of Britain's status as a world superpower and now Wright has found his female lead for the feature. Variety reports Cate Blanchett will star as Lady Edwina Mountbatten in a story that follows the fateful events as Britain's Lord Mountbatten, with Edwina in tow, is sent to oversee the handover of power in the summer of 1947 to Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister. William Nicholson (Gladiator and Elizabeth: The Golden Age) is penning the script.

Cate Blanchett Has An Indian Summer

15 July 2009 1:48 AM, PDT | From EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news

Fresh from a Nottingham spring spent frolicking in the forests of Sherwood, Cate Blanchett has signed up for Indian Summer, Joe Wright's period drama set in the turbulent, bloody final days of the British Empire. Set in 1947, Indian Summer sees Blanchett play Lady Edwina Mountbatten, wife of Lord Mountbatten's Viceroy of India, who helps her husband oversee the handover of power in the country to Jawaharlal Nehru. To say that this didn't go well would be understating things, with the country pitched into an unprecedented period of bloodshed and disorder. Gladiator writer William Nicholson is adapting the story from Alex von Tunzelmann's book.Blanchett rarely makes a misstep when picking her roles and she'll have plenty to get her teeth into as Lady Edwina. With an acute intelligence, hard-partying socialite lifestyle and a string of affairs, Edwina achieved fame and notoriety in her lifetime, but also went

Working Title has confirmed there will be a third installment in the Bridget Jones series starring Renee Zellweger. The British producer also attached Cate Blanchett for a lead role in director Joe Wright's Indian Summer.

According to Variety, the untitled third Bridget Jones pic, which is still in its early stages and probably won't go into production until the end of next year, will see Zellweger reprise her role as a British publishing exec struggling to find love.

It will likely be based on the weekly columns author Helen Fielding wrote in 2005 for British newspaper the Independent in which Bridget, now in her 40s, attempts to have a baby before it's too late.

Working Title co-toppers Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan have yet to set a writer or director.

Danny Huston Joins Robin Hood

14 July 2009 2:35 AM, PDT | From Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news

Danny Huston has been very busy lately. The X-Men Origins: Wolverine actor, fresh from completing his work as Poseidon in Clash of the Titans, has joined the cast of director Ridley Scott's yet-to-be-titled Robin Hood. Huston will play King Richard, otherwise known as Richard the Lionheart.

While King Richard is often depicted as good in movies about the Robin Hood myth, Scott's version may make the character more historically accurate. Considering King Richard was more interested in the Crusades than he was being King of England, it will be interesting to see how Scott decides to present him. Luckily for Scott, Huston has made a habit of playing both villain and hero.

Scott's Robin Hood movie opens May 14, 2010. Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett star as Robin Hood and Maid Marion, respectively.

Wolverine villain cast as King Richard in Robin Hood

13 July 2009 4:01 AM, PDT | From The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news

Ridley Scott'S Robin Hood remake now has its king, with Danny Huston joining the cast as Richard the Lionheart, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, set for release on May 14, 2010, was recently revealed by star Russell Crowe to be called Robin Hood, despite many other sites saying it's 'as-yet-untitled.'

In the Robin Hood story, King Richard I went off to the Crusades, earning the Lionheart title for his exploits and leaving a power vacuum that was filled by Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Russell Crowe plays the legendary folk hero in the movie, originally scripted by Ethan Reiff, Cyrus Voris and Brian Helgeland and reportedly reworked by Tom Stoppard.

Cate Blanchett is Maid Marian and Matthew Macfadyen will play the Sheriff.

Huston was most recently seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine as the nefarious William Stryker who added indestructible metal (including claws) to Hugh Jackman's title character.

Danny Huston Joins Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood

12 July 2009 10:12 PM, PDT | From Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news

Apparently Ridley Scott didn’t need an actor for King Richard until now — THR reports that Scott’s currently in-production movie “Robin Hood”, starring Russell Crowe as the vigilante hero, has cast Danny Huston (recently in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) as King Richard. Richard is a real historical figure, and was more commonly known as Richard the Lionheart because of his exploits during the Third Crusade. They did a lot of those back in the day, the Crusades. Apparently anyone who was anyone had to go at least once, or so I’ve heard. Huston will be segueing into “Robin Hood” after wrapping up his part on Louis Leterrier’s “Clash of the Titans” remake, where he played the God Poseidon, king of the sea and fishes and all things wet. He’ll join a “Robin Hood” cast that’s headlined by Crowe as the titular character and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marion.

Remember that douchebag King Richard who kind of dominated the Third Crusade and became known as Richard The Lionheart because of it? Neither do I. Regardless, Danny Huston, he of "son of John Huston" fame has been cast as the legendary king in Ridley Scott's upcoming Robin Hood. As we all know, Russell Crowe is starring as the prince of thieves and Cate Blanchett is playing his beloved Maid Marian. The picture has been under a lot of scrutiny since it's inception, but...

First Look: Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox

12 July 2009 4:33 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Wes Anderson’s next film is an animated take on Roald Dahl’s classic Fantastic Mr. Fox, and I gotta say, I’m very excited!  I’m a huge fan of Anderson (Rushmore is in my top 10 favorite films of all time), and it looks like this Fox Searchlight movie has an incredible cast, led by George Clooney as the title character.

Adapted by Anderson and co-writer Noah Baumbach (whose Kicking and Screaming is a classic 1990’s indie film), the story follows Mr. Fox as he takes a meal every night from one of three farmers to feed his family.  The farmers decide to team up to take down Mr. Fox.

It does seem a little bit odd that Anderson is doing an animated film as his follow-up to , but it does make sense.  Harry Selick (classic animator behind Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, and many others) provided the stop-motion sea

First Look at 'The Fantastic Mr. Fox' Found

10 July 2009 8:45 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Joblo has got its hands on an exclusive still from the forthcoming animation "The Fantastic Mr. Fox". The first image coming out of the 20th Century Fox's animation features a close-up look at titular character Mr. Fox, voiced by George Clooney, with Meryl Streep's Mrs. Fox and Bill Murray's Badger standing behind him.

First image aside, speculations surrounding the film's trailer are yet to meet any ray of light. After being rumored to be unleashed attached to "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs", the trailer is said to be let out in front of "500 Days of Summer", which will be released on July 17. However, there is a conflicting report from /Film, suggesting that the trailer won't be put out until August. Despite the uncertainty of the trailer, the brand new still is available via Joblo.

Based on the novel by author Roald Dahl, "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" centers on the clever Mr.

First Look: Wes Anderson's Version on Fantastic Mr. Fox

10 July 2009 10:04 AM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

I know you may be thinking, why do we need a first look at this? But trust me, once you see this little photo, you'll understand why. JoBlo has scored the first look at the family from Wes Anderson's stop animation adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic Fantastic Mr. Fox. In retrospect, this seems a bit like Fox's attempt to mimic Warner Bros' Where the WIld Things Are - it's an adaptation of a beloved children's book with a very unique director and an unusual style. That said, I still like the look of this quite a bit. This photo is way too small to really get anything good from it, but my initial impressions are leaning towards the positive side! Photo removed at the request of 20th Century Fox. Sorry! Fantastic Mr. Fox features George Clooney and Cate Blanchett as the voices of Mr. and Mrs. Fox (seen
