Lifetime's '12 Men of Christmas': A minute-by-minute guide to Josh Hopkins' beautiful chest!

17 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

To quote my short review of Lifetime's 12 Men of Christmas that ran in EW: "The only reason to watch this trivial holiday movie—with Kristin Chenoweth as an NYC bitch who finds herself after moving to Montana—is to gawk at Cougar Town's Josh Hopkins, who plays her love interest, often with a bare (and chiseled!) chest." That hasn't changed, and only struck me more so as I watched the two-hour pic again today, when it premiered at 9 p.m. The movie is supposed to be about Kristin Chenoweth's Amanda Woodward-esque character E.J., who moves to small-town »

Fuse's 'Top 20 Divas': Where's Cher, Whitney, and everyone else?

18 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

I love a diva. So when I saw that Fuse was doing a special titled Top 20 Divas earlier this evening at 6 p.m., I immediately set my DVR to record. Truly, I had no idea what I was getting into: Would this be a video countdown with commentary? A VH1-style special that features talking heads—and sometimes the divas themselves—talking about what makes these Top 20 divas so damned special? A mix of the two? Well, come to find out, it was just literally 20 videos from divas. But, honestly, it was one of the weirdest countdowns I've ever seen. »

Dashiell John Upton has more than a little spring in his step — maybe because it was his 8th birthday? — while out and about in downtown Manhattan with mom Cate Blanchett and brother Roman Robert, 5 ½, on Wednesday.

Cate, 40, who recently said she “loves raising boys,” is also mom to son Ignatius Martin, 19 months.

The family is currently in New York City while the actress stars in A Streetcar Named Desire.

Interview: Jason Reitman Takes Personal Journey With ‘Up in the Air’

3 December 2009 12:14 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Following up the massive critical and commercial success of “Juno” would be a daunting task for anyone and writer/director Jason Reitman admits that he was nervous coming off that film. Somewhat surprisingly, he’s delivered an even more confident and, overall, superior film in the excellent “Up in the Air,” starring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, and Jason Bateman.

After taking our pictures for his own records and a lively discussion about why he’s not too psyched about “Avatar,” what he thought of “Final Destination 4” in German, and what went wrong with the “Saw” movies, Bateman, Peter Sobczynski of EFilmCritic.com, Lee Shoquist of N:Zone, and I got into “Up in the Air”. Bateman is very open about how each of his films reflect what he’s concerned about personally.

Blanchett's 'Soars' In Streetcar

3 December 2009 11:21 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Cate Blanchett has wowed New York's notoriously tough theatre critics after taking Tennessee Williams' classic A Streetcar Named Desire to the Big Apple.

The actress stars as Southern belle Blanche DuBois in the latest production of the show, brought to New York by the Sydney Theatre Company Blanchett runs with her husband Andrew Upton.

And the Oscar winner doesn't disappoint, according to early reviews of the Brooklyn Academy of Music show, directed by legendary actress Liv Ullmann.

New York Post critic Elisabeth Vincentelli writes, "Blanchett is the big draw. And she delivers."

The New York Times' Ben Brantley goes further, describing her performance as the best portrayal of DuBois he has ever seen.

Brantley gushes, "Cate Blanchett soars spectacularly.

"I have seen (DuBois) portrayed by an assortment of formidable stars including Jessica Lange, Glenn Close, Patricia Clarkson and Natasha Richardson....

"Ms. Ullmann and Ms. Blanchett have performed the play as if it had never been staged before, with the result that, as a friend of mine put it, 'You feel like you're hearing words you thought you knew pronounced correctly for the first time.'" »

Will Robin Hood be bashing some pommes?

3 December 2009 10:10 AM, PST | t5m.com | See recent t5m.com news »

There’s a new Robin Hood in town and at least this one drives on the left hand side of the road! Sorry to get patriotic here but Robin Hood is  English. From his legendary home in the heart of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire to the very gallant concept of robbing from the rich just to the feed the poor. Yet when it comes to casting the film versions of the story, Hollywood could not accept a lead English actor.  From Tasmanian Errol Flynn (The Adventures of Robin Hood), to Scottish Sean Connery (Robin and Marian), Irish Patrick Bergin (Robin Hood) and of course the very American Kevin Costner (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves).  Only London born Cary Elwes has flown the flag for the English and that was in parody - Mel Brooks’  Men in Tights. The latest owner of the green tights will be Australian Russell Crowe. At »

New York theatre review: Cate Blanchett dazzles in A Streetcar Named Desire

3 December 2009 7:40 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Despite a flat-batteried opposite number in Joel Edgerton, Blanchett's Blanche pours life into a new production of Tennessee Williams's classic

Towards the end of Tennessee Williams's A Streetcar Named Desire, the tragically self-deluded Blanche Dubois stares out of the window and with a flick of the wrist exclaims: "I don't want realism, I want magic!" Cate Blanchett, in a new production that opened in New York on Monday night, uttered the words with such wistful longing that she caught perfectly Blanche's burden and self-denial. A performance that began strongly and ended triumphantly earned Blanchett a standing ovation at the Bam Harvey theatre.

Streetcar is a high-risk undertaking for anyone, inviting as it does comparison with the black-and-white splendour of the 1951 film version. Blanchett plays the role with much less coquettishness than did Vivien Leigh, holding the audience's attention by revealing, gradually, the extent of her deceptions. Her subtle »

Preview performances at the Walter Kerr theatre began last week in advance of the opening night on 13 December and tickets, which are being sold on eBay for as much as $300, are like gold dust.

In the production Zeta-Jones, who plays the part of a flamboyant actress called Desiree Armfeldt, sings one of Sondheim's most famous songs, "Send in the Clowns". Although there have »

10 closest Oscar races in the past 20 years

23 November 2009 1:12 PM, PST | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

One of the shrewdest Oscarologists on the planet is Tariq Khan of Fox News, who often generously shares his views of current and past derbies with Gold Derby readers. Here he takes a nostalgic look  at the past two decades, offering his take on the most competitive derbies. Words below are Tariq's. Thanks, m'friend!

We’ve often discussed those Oscar races that seem just too close to call . . . where it’s clear (or at least seems clear) that the eventual winner will nab the Oscar with only a few more votes than his or her nearest competitor. While we can never really know for sure (unless we get one of those top jobs at the accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers,) we do have some idea of what may have been the closest races in Oscar history. Allow me to present what I believe were the 10 closest acting races over the course of the past 20 years. »

Bill Nighy: 'I am not suddenly the greatest actor in the world'

19 November 2009 3:54 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The star of Stephen Poliakoff's forthcoming Glorious 39 on his neuroses, playing educated toffs and why he digs David Hare

"A machiavellian dandy . . . Pure coldheartedness . . . Fabulously insincere." As I read out reviews of an old Bill Nighy performance, the actor grimaces and drums his knuckles on the table. "If ever a face was made for villainy, it's Bill Nighy's," I continue. "Wow," he murmurs. "Nighy's decadently long jaw and narrow, sneaky eyes serve him well . . ." He snorts, amused. "Sneaky eyes! Long decadent jaw! My God. I didn't know I had a decadent jaw."

Perhaps it is how Glorious 39 unfolds around him that makes you never quite trust Nighy as Alexander Keyes, a devoted father and aristocratic Conservative MP in Stephen Poliakoff's sumptuous new thriller about appeasement, set on the eve of the second world war. But perhaps Nighy has a singular talent for projecting unreliability into charming characters. »
