Potter and Pixar magic, a new Watchmen trailer and Roland Emmerich courts the apocalypse once again. Here's what's happening in trailers:
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Not to be outdone by those vampires over in Twilight land, Warner Bros. has released a brand new, full-length trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which, of course, should satisfy those Potter fanatics who were pissed the release date was pushed back from next week to this July. Check it out below:
2012
If Roland Emmerich hadn't chosen the career of film maker, I suspect he would have become a super villain as this film marks his third attempt to destroy the world (after Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow) -- and fourth if you count Godzilla, though the big lizard confined the devastation to New York City. Evidence as to what can happen when a dripping faucet gets out of control,

Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Studios are taking fans to their latest adventure with a grumpy old man with wild idea through a teaser trailer of "Up". Displaying all of the movies the studios have made together from "Toy Story" to "Wall-e" throughout the years, the brief sneak peek serves as an introduction to 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen and 8-year-old Russell.
Noting that Carl is about to go on an incredible journey without leaving his home, the video displays the main reason the narrator says so. Thousands of balloons tied to Carl's house suddenly shoot up to the air and lifts the house up, bringing Carl who stays inside to the sky as he intends. But, as he enjoys the journey, his front door is knocked and a surprise awaits behind the close door.
Directed by Pete Docter and Bob Peterson, "Up" is an animation adventure comedy about a man who

Back in July Disney/Pixar released a 43 second teaser for Up that does little to excite the masses so now they have released a full teaser trailer to get you amped up for May 29. It's not much, but it's here, the first official teaser trailer for Pixar's Up. For audiences that have never been introduced to Pixar's next adventure, or the character that it's all about, it's a great little introduction. Unfortunately we still don't know know much about where it'll go next (once he lands where he's going), but I still can't wait to find out. The character of Carl Fredricksen is being voiced by Ed Asner and is inspired by Disney legends Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston. I'm so excited to finally be back in the swing of things with the next big Pixar movie, because I love everything they do and can never patiently wait for more. Pixar's next offering will be Up, a "coming of old age story" with a retired hero (Edward Asner), who somehow or other fights bad guys around the world in his house, which is transported by tons of balloons.
I like the premise, although I haven't seen enough to really know where it's going. Right now, we're just at the flying house part. But Pixar has always done good things with old characters - remember Jan Pinkava's classic short, Geri's Game - and they're Pixar, so you have to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Asner is joined in the cast by Christopher Plummer, which should be tremendous, and John Ratzenberger, naturally.

New racy comedy web series Star-ving starring David Faustino (Bud Bundy on Married….with Children) has landed Ed Asner (Mary Tyler Moore Show, Lou Grant) for a major role, sources close to the star tell us. The Sony/Crackle project looks to be an exaggerated take on David as a down and out actor who’s wife ditched him for a rapper and is now running a struggling porn shop. According to a recent casting notice, “Think Curb Your Enthusiasm crossed with The Real World but very R rated.” Casting is still in full swing apparently. A recent craigslist ad sheds a little light into what to expect: 1) Osama Bin Laden lookalike - in a very funny episode, David gets a series on Al-Jazeera network and the studio head decides it should be a “buddy comedy” with Osama Bin Laden. 1 scene. 2) Dave’s Mom - must be a Little Person or very,

In March 1977, the very successful Mary Tyler Moore Show sitcom said farewell after seven seasons. The cast and crew wanted to leave while they were still on top. In the final episode, Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore), Murray Slaughter (Gavin MacLeod), and Lou Grant (Ed Asner) were fired from their Wjm newsroom positions while inept anchorman Ted Baxter (Ted Knight) kept his job.
In the fall, Lou Grant moved to his own spin-off show and took a job as the city editor for the fictional Los Angeles Tribune. Some tuned in expecting to find another comedy. Instead, they found that Lou Grant was a drama series that didn't shy away from provocative subjects like nuclear waste, mental illness, prostitution, and gay rights.
In addition to the gruff title character, the series follows the work of general-assignment reporters Joe Rossi (Robert Walden) and Billie Newman (Linda Kelsey), photographer Dennis "Animal" Price

Trailers are taking to the air this week as we discuss five previews that make me think of flying.
This is a real quick little teaser but it makes me smile every time I watch it, and I'm pretty certain that's Ed Asner voicing the single word used. I suspect this brief bit of film will not even end up in the final flick, but it's already sold me through its ability to be charming as hell. This is Pixar's tenth animated feature, though not having seen Wall-e yet I'm starting to fall behind. In addition to Asner the voice cast includes Christopher Plummer and Pixar mainstay John Ratzenberger, and is described as "a 'coming of old age' story," in which "a seventysomething hero, alongside his clueless wilderness ranger sidekick, travels the globe, fighting beasts and villains, and eating dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon.

Although we already wrote about the panel at Comic-Con for Pixar's Up, most people still don't seem to know what it's really about. Thankfully two exciting updates have arrived that will hopefully help clear up some of the confusion or at least capture the internet a few more people. First, a rogue attendee at the panel took some photos of the presentation and uploaded them to their Flickr. Second, the guys at Animation World Magazine caught up with Pete Docter, the writer and director of Up, and asked him some basic questions about the film and the story. We've combined these two updates to give you a more comprehensive look at what we can expect from Pixar's 2009 feature film and the story within. As we mentioned in the previous article, Up is about a 78-year-old grumpy old man named Carl Fredricksen (voiced by Ed Asner), a short and square little

Forty-something seconds of pure joy. That pretty much sums up the teaser trailer for Disney Pixar's Up, which is notable in the Pixar timeline because it's the company's last movie before Toy Story 3, which will be a full-on 3-D thing, and I suspect that could change Pixar forever.
The teaser debuted at Comic Con, and now it's out there in the ether. We don't learn a whole lot - which is usually the case with a teaser - but we know that, much like Sex in the City, the main character is in his 70s (he'll greet you in a moment), and that he's kind of a fantasy hero, too, fighting beasties and so forth. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I think it involves balloons.
Edward Asner, Christopher Plummer, and - of course - John Ratzenberger lend their voices to the project.
Up will be in theaters May 29th.

The Comic Con panel for Disney/Pixar's Up just took place and it was yet again another impressive showing. Last year Pixar didn't have much for Wall E, but this year there was footage and goodies galore. However, it isn't restricted to Comic Con goers. While some of the footage won't be online, David brings you a description right here, but the teaser trailer can be found directly below and the official site has launched right here. We also got the full voice cast list which includes Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer, Delroy Lindo and, as always, Mr. John Ratzenberger. A spokesman for the semi-official group that coordinates the issuance of production permits for location shooting in Los Angeles has taken issue with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which said that the impasse in negotiations with the Screen Actors Guild had led to a "de facto strike" in Hollywood that had virtually shut down motion picture production. Todd Lindgren of FilmL.A. told the Associated Press that in the five-week period ending June 24, FilmL.A. obtained 21 permits, up from 13 during the same period a year ago. "I wouldn't say it is the de facto strike that the AMPTP has mentioned. ... We are seeing the opposite." Meanwhile, the Screen Actors Guild on Thursday stepped up its campaign to encourage members who also hold cards in the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists to reject a contract that AFTRA union leaders had negotiated with the AMPTP. Dual cardholders received an email message containing quotes from Sean Penn, Sandra Oh, Edward Asner, Justine Bateman, Anne-Marie Johnson, and Jobeth Williams denouncing the AFTRA deal. AFTRA has claimed that SAG has misrepresented the terms of the deal.

Veteran actor Ed Asner has blasted his former TV bosses for ending his hit U.S. series Lou Grant because they disapproved of his political views.
The 78-year-old Emmy-winning actor became infamous for his role as the high-powered TV boss of legendary actress Mary Tyler Moore on her 1970s series The Mary Tyler Moore show, before getting his own spin-off after the pair's series was cancelled in 1977.
Lou Grant was subsequently axed in 1982 after its five-year run on U.S. TV network CBS - and Asner blames conservative bosses at the network for stalling his acting career because he had become increasingly vocal about his liberal politics.
Asner tells Fancast.com, "I said the people of El Salvador should be able to elect the government of their choice. I knew I was signing my death warrant.. the show was threatened with being blacklisted. Charlton Heston... called me a 'dangerous, dangerous man' and then the show was indeed canceled."

Ed Asner, best known for his portrayal of Lou Grant -- first on the Mary Tyler Moore show from 1970-77, then on the spin-off Lou Grant from 1977-82 -- has accused CBS founder and chairman William S. Paley of canceling the Lou Grant series because of Asner's political activism at the time. In an interview with the website Fancast, Asner said, "Bill Paley was responsible for the cancellation of my show." Paley, he said, acted after Asner publicly supported a fundraising campaign for medical aid to leftist El Salvador rebels. "When I returned to L.A., I came under a tremendous amount of attack and the show was threatened with being blacklisted. Charlton Heston took me on and called me a 'dangerous, dangerous man' and then the show was indeed canceled." Asner did not disclose how he learned that Paley, who died in 1990, personally decided to cancel the show, which had won 13 Emmys. Asner said that, as a result of that experience, he has learned how "to pick and choose" his political causes. "I want to work as much as the next man," he said.
