Kristen Stewart has graduated high school after passing her last exams on the set of the new Twilight movie. After quitting school to pursue acting as a teen, the star has taken classes with tutors on movie sets. The 19 year old finally qualified between scenes on the Vancouver, Canada set of Eclipse, at exactly the same time as her character Bella - so the fictional graduation ceremony she shot for the film doubled up as her real one.
In a chat with Dennis Hopper for the latest issue of Interview magazine, Stewart reveals, "I know it's a little late, and I'm a little old, but I just finished high school - with honours.
"The other day I was doing a graduation scene on Eclipse and I had just finished high school myself the week before, so I told the crew, 'Hey, just so you know, I'm actually graduating right now, and I'm not going to have another ceremony.'
"So I took a mock picture with an extra. I literally asked the actor to come back and shake my hand and hand me the diploma while I was dressed in a cap and gown." »

While I definitely acknowledge that Easy Rider is a classic film, that doesn't mean I think it's very good. Confusing? Perhaps, but it doesn't have to be.
To me, a "classic" is anything that stands the test of time and remains enjoyable after many years or that made a significant impact upon the genre. I'd argue that Rider doesn't qualify in the former category but that it certainly meets the latter criteria. When I watched the original DVD, it was the third time I saw Easy Rider. I first viewed it on VHS about 15 years earlier and I absolutely loathed it. Since I didn't really experience the Sixties firsthand - I only lived through two and a half years of that decade, so for some strange reason, my memories of it remain few - I have to rely on the media's depictions to give me knowledge of it. (Eric Roberts in "Crash," above.)
Rediscovering Roberts
Eric Roberts never really left, but 2009 audiences are learning (or relearning) the charms of the actor Mickey Rourke has called the best he ever worked with.
By Terry Keefe
(This article is currently appearing in this month's Venice Magazine.)
“Eric Roberts is the [expletive deleted] Man,” proclaimed Mickey Rourke at this past year’s Independent Spirit Awards, while accepting his trophy for Best Male Lead, at the very beginning of a speech which then saw him singling out Roberts, his one-time co-star in 1984’s The Pope of Greenwich Village, as someone who was worthy of a comeback like Rourke had with The Wrestler. From the audience, Roberts himself watched his friend at the podium with what looked to be a combination of embarrassment at being mentioned and some pleasure at the same, finally throwing it back at Rourke by shouting good-naturedly, “Accept your award!” For »

As if we needed yet another reason to do what we can to fight cancer. On top of the hundreds of thousands of cancer-related deaths the U.S. is plagued with every year, and just a short time after we lost Patrick Swayze to pancreatic cancer, The Associated Press (via Canoe) reports that two-time Oscar nominee Dennis Hopper has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The 73-year-old actor has canceled his travel plans, as well as his attendance at an exhibition of his artwork in Melbourne in order to focus on his treatment. Said treatment is said to be part of a "special program" at the University of Southern California, according to Hopper's manager, Sam Maydew, and they are "hoping for the best." That's not exactly an optimistic quote, which might not be so surprising. This news comes just days after the actor was hospitalized for "showing severe flulike symptoms" and getting treated for dehydration. »

This is some very upsetting news.
It appears that actor Dennis Hopper has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Earlier this month, there were some reports that Hopper had been rushed to the hospital for an undisclosed reason. Now, according to the BBC, Hopper is entering a special program for treatment in California. The initial stay in the hospital was reportedly due to flu-like symptoms and dehydration.
Hopper has had a long and varied history in cinema, ranging back to his friendship in his youth with actor James Dean. He went from playing bit parts to writing, directing, and starring in Easy Rider, which many regard as one of the formative films of 1960s and 1970s cinema. Since then, he has played many memorable roles in over 200 productions, ranging from villains in Speed and Waterworld to a psychotic photographer in Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now and as Frank Booth in Blue Velvet. »
