In the Lord of the Rings trilogy, female stars played characters of more elegant races like Liv Tyler.s elven Arwen and Cate Blanchett.s Galadriel, but as reported by The One Ring, The Hobbit-- a movie mostly about dwarves--will feature a female leading lady. Other than that bare bones announcement, the article just speculates on the possibilities. The author purports that because this female role is being cast so early in the process, it must be a featured role. Given that there are no major explicitly female characters in the original book, it's possible that this actress would be voicing an animated character, or hey, maybe one of the dwarves accompanying Bilbo on his journey might be a girl after all! Just as much of a surprise as the news of a female leading role is that the casting process is underway at all. Between MGM.s financial troubles »

The future of Aerosmith has been thrown into doubt after the singer said he wanted to take a year off to pursue a solo career, but the frontman’s bandmates are “suspicious” of his current behaviour. Guitarist Brad Whitford said: "I suspect there's a lot more going on than we know about. He has a well-documented history of drug abuse, and I find myself very suspicious. I haven't seen him do this or have any personal knowledge, but the isolation is very typical of addictive behaviour, and his - what I call - irrational behaviour." Drummer Joey Kramer also urged 61-year-old Steven – whose daughter is Hollywood actress Liv Tyler - to seek help and “get healthy”. Joey said: "Steven has made some poor choices as of late, and he's got some bad influences around him, and I think that for the most part he's his own worst enemy ". A spokesperson »

I've got good news and bad news, video game fans. The good news is that a "Space Invader" film is on the way. The bad news is that it has no connection whatsoever to the classic arcade game.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Iron Man 2" screenwriter Justin Theroux is set to pen "Space Invader," Fox's astronaut romantic comedy that has nothing to do with shooting down wave after wave of aggressive alien aircrafts via joystick and button mashing. Instead, "Space Invader" focuses on a man who goes to space after suspecting that his astronaut girlfriend is cheating on him with a fellow astronaut.
Don't get me wrong, this "Space Invader" premise is pretty funny, and Will Arnett's attachment to the lead role makes it even funnier. Still, why throw away the "Space Invaders" name on a romantic comedy, rather than reserving it for a future video game adaptation? »

Steven Tyler has reportedly quit Aerosmith. The 61-year-old frontman is said to have walked out on the 'Crazy' rockers after a performance in Abu Dhabi last month and his bandmates have not heard from him since. Guitarist Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun newspaper: "Steven quit as far as I can tell. I don't know anymore than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band." Perry claims Tyler - father of Hollywood actress Liv Tyler - has refused to take his phone calls to let the rest of the band know what's going on. He said: "He has had »

Recent hot commodity, Katie Holmes, will replace Liv Tyler in the upcoming comedy The Romantics.
Starring Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong, The Romantics is an independently financed film which centers around “eight friends from college who reunite for a wedding.” The film is being produced by Team Todd, Plum Pictures and Benaroya Pictures.
Holmes will play Laura, the maid of honor to Anna Paquin’s bride, Lila. Both Lila and Laura have had a “thing” with the groom, played by Duhamel. Let the cat fights and rolling around in over-the-top dresses begin.
The movie is based on the novel by Galt Niederhoffer who will adapt it for screen. Niederhoffer will also direct. A hefty load indeed.
Celine Rattray, Pam Hirsch and Riva Marker will executive produce.
Katie Holmes can also be seen in Miramax’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, »

Variety writes that Katie Holmes will replace Liv Tyler as the lead in the upcoming indie flick The Romantics. Tyler left the project for undisclosed reasons, and Holmes joins a cast that already includes Anna Paquin, Elijah Wood, and Adam Brody.
Its story involves eight friends who reunite for the wedding of Paquin's character, Lila. Both she and Holmes' character have a past with the groom, played by Josh Duhamel. Galt Niederhoffer is writing and directing from her own novel, which debuted last summer.
The Romantics begins shooting this week and is due out sometime in 2010.

--Sylvester Stallone has opened up on the secret scene in "The Expendables" featuring himself, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and my greatest dreams come to life. According to the actor, Willis plays the man who hires Stallone and his titular team for "a death-defying mission," but there's another operative that could take on the job — none other than Stallone's longtime rival, played by Schwarzenegger. "I talked about this scene with these guys for a long time, but I never thought it would come to fruition," said Stallone. (PopWatch)

Liv Tyler's out of The Romantics and Katie Holmes is in, according to Variety. Holmes (aka Mrs Tom Cruise) will take over the role Tyler had originally signed on to play in the comedy film from writer/director Galt Niederhoffer. Holmes, who is also now on board as an executive producer, will play Anna Paquin's maid of honor.
In real life, Paquin is engaged to her handsome True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer. In the film, Paquin will be marrying Josh Duhamel (who's actually married to Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas). The Romantics also features Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Jeremy Strong and Adam Brody as college friends who get back together for Lila's wedding.
Variety reports The Romantics will begin shooting in New York in the next few days.

Not too long ago, Katie Holmes was the one getting ousted. After romancing Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins, she was set aside so Maggie Gyllenhaal could whip up a much more spot-on Rachel Dawes. Now it's her time to take over a role. It might not be part of a well-established franchise, but Variety reports that Holmes will be replacing Liv Tyler in the romantic comedy The Romantics.
As I wrote when Tyler signed on for the project, this film sees Galt Niederhoffer adapting and directing from her own novel, which focuses on a group of college friends who reunite after 6 years for a wedding. The event brings up a rivalry between the groom, the bride, and her maid of honor. Anna Paquin is playing the bride, Josh Duhamel is the groom, and Holmes is stepping in as maid of honor. (Other cast include Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody, »

Here are your casting notes for the morning before Page 2 hits. Katie Holmes is on an upswing and Morgan Freeman gets into comedy. I'd love to see him do a lot more comedy, so long as it's not along the lines of Bruce Almighty, and hopefully this new R-rated project would do the trick. I was already thinking about Katie Holmes this morning (it's been a while, Katie!) while writing about the downsizing of Miramax. She's in Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, the Miramax remake of a classic TV movie that my friend Troy's been shooting in Australia. Hope that one doesn't get a raw deal given the shape Miramax is in. Now she's taken over Liv Tyler's role in The Romantics, an indie that also features Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong. The film, about a group of college friends »
