Heat and Logan’s Run Blu-ray Reviews

3 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Catalog titles Ftw. I am one of those rare people who enjoy being “double dipped.” I like upgrading to Blu-ray if I love a film, because you only get to watch a movie for the first time once, and so a different and better transfer is a reason (at least for me) to get excited about a film you’ve seen a number of times. When I would go see something in the theater on multiple occasions, I’d often go to different theaters (or failing that, different seats). My reviews of the Blu-rays of Heat and Logan’s Run after the jump.

Heat is one of the great American films. It took me a while to come to that, and I still think that Michael Mann’s finest film is The Insider, but there’s no denying Heat. Robert De Niro stars as Neal McCauley, a high line criminal who knows how to rob. »

Winona, Fox Searchlight Join Aronofsky's 'Black Swan'

7 hours ago | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

A few more names have been added to Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, the movie that is becoming more heavily circulated because of a sex scene with Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis than its subject matter...which is not that. I forget what it is exactly...Oh wait, yeah, it's about ballerinas and the supernatural.

Winona Ryder, kind of a Portman version 1.0, has joined the cast, and she'll play, shall we say, a much more "seasoned" dancer for Aronofsky. It's hard to say exactly what went wrong with Ryder's career. I'm not convinced she was ever as talented as we all wanted her to be - we just had a real dearth of teenage talent in the 1980s, let's be honest - but the pendulum really swung the other way in the years before her shoplifting conviction and it was a long time after that before people took her seriously again. »

Winona Ryder Joins "Black Swan" Cast for Director Darren Aronofsky

7 hours ago | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

I'm getting really excited about this supernatural project called "Black Swan." First, I respect Darren Aronofsky as a director. He made Mickey Rourke ("The Wrestler") cool again!

Second, the paranormal angle is intriguing. The film is set in the world of New York City ballet about a ballerina (Natalie Portman) who's competing with a rival dancer. But is the rival a ghost or is Portman's character just having a mental breakdown? Mila Kunis is set to star as Lilly, the mysterious rival dancer.

Now, Winona Ryder is joining the cast as a rival dancer. Barbara Hershey and Vincent Cassel complete the cast.

Fox Searchlight is very close into co-financing and distributing the film which was written by Mark Heyman based on an original screenplay by Andres Heinz.

Production is set to start in New York before the end of the year, and the budget is reported to be between $10 million - $12 million. »

Winona Ryder to join Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis in "Black Swan"

10 hours ago | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

News sources and fans are abuzz with word that Winona Ryder will be joining Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis for Darren Aronofsky’s supernatural thriller, Black Swan. According to Filmofilia, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee star is slated to play Beth, “a dancer who is coming to the end of her career.”

All the dancers, presumably including Nina (Portman) and Lily (Kunis), are vying for her role of Odette, the Swan Queen in Swan Lake. I didn’t think it was possible, but I believe the cast of Black Swan got even hotter.

And, as you probably know, Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis are set to participate in some really, hot, angry sex, which Portman recently described as “not raunchy" but "extreme.”

Let’s just think of the possibilities: Perhaps Ryder has some sort of say in who replaces her, so both Portman and Kunis try to bribe her with aforementioned hot, »

Aronofsky’s Black Swan Goes to Searchlight, Adds Cast

11 hours ago | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

There's been a lot of news in the past 24-hours around the next project of director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler). Titled Black Swan, the new pic tells the story of Nina (Natalie Portman), a veteran ballerina who finds herself locked in a competitive showdown with a rival dancer named Lilly (Mila Kunis) “with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance.” Of course, there is also the connundrum of whether or not Lilly is real, a supernatural apparition or if she's just delusional. Either way, it has been reported that Nina and Lilly have "ecstasy-induced hungry aggressive angry sex." That last tidbit has been the source of much talk on the web, naturally. On to the news -- our friends at /Film reported Sunday that Vincent Cassel, Winona Ryder and Barbara Hershey have all joined the cast of the film, which is set to shoot very soon. Ryder »

Winona Ryder Makes a Comeback in Aronofsky's Black Swan

12 hours ago | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Since 2002's Mr. Deeds (and an incident with shoplifting), Winona Ryder kept herself quietly busy with indie fare like Sex and Death 101 and The Informers — until she played Spock's mother in Star Trek.

Now Ryder has signed on to star in Darren Aronofsky's supernatural thriller Black Swan, according to THR. Set in the world of New York's ballet scene, Black Swan follows a dancer (Natalie Portman) whose rival (Mila Kunis) may be a figment of the her imagination. Ryder will play an older dancer. Barbara Hershey and Vincent Cassell are also joining the cast in unspecified roles.

Black Swan, which starts production in New York at the end of the year, has a script by Aronofsky and Mark Heyman. Fox Searchlight, who distributed Aronofsky's The Wrestler, is negotiating to co-finance and distribute the movie.

Aronofsky’s Black Swan Set to Soar with New Cast Members

12 hours ago | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

This is going to be great.

I love Aronofsky’s visions and his capability as a director has delivered us the pitch black paranoia of Pi, the resurgent rebound of The Wrestler and gave us a bald Hugh Jackman in a bubble – consistently delivering stellar character work with  a curious and unique momentum to his films.

And while we’ll have to wait a few more years for his rendition of Robocop his next feature Black Swan is shaping up to be another impressive ride.

The wonderful guys at /Film have reported two bits of news concerning casting and distribution, with Fox Searchlight picking up the story of a fading star of the New York Ballet whose rivalry with a young dancer is given a fresh dimension as the rival (played by Mila Kunis) may or may not actually exist.

New ‘Brothers’ Trailer Online!

19 hours ago | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Is it wrong that the first thought that popped into my mind after viewing the trailer for Jim Sheridan’s new film Brothers was “I’m so glad somebody finally decided to capitalize on the physical similarity between Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire!”?

The film, which will be released on December 4, centers around the conflict between two brothers over one woman (Natalie Portman) after one thought to be dead overseas returns home. The trailer starts out as sappy melodrama and then shifts into something over the top and maybe a little absurd.

Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think in the comments!

More Cast For Black Swan

Darren Aronofsky's ballet drama The Black Swan begins shooting imminently, and is on the verge of securing co-financing and distribution by Fox's indie sub-label Searchlight, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No real surprise there, since it was Searchlight that picked up The Wrestler. Which did okayish...Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis have been undergoing intensive ballet training for the story of a life-or-death, slightly spooky rivalry between two New York ballerinas as a big performance approaches. It's now revealed that joining them in the cast will be Barbara Hershey and Vincent Cassel, plus Winona Ryder as "an older dancer". Not quite as old as Spock's mom, we hope, but this still makes us feel our age. Winona has moved up a generation!
