In the 1950’s, a western TV show called Rawhide hit Us airwaves. One of several series about the old west, it captivated adults and children alike. Rawhide featured an ensemble cast of largely unknown actors, including a young man named Clint Eastwood. Eastwood had appeared in TV and film before, but it was here he really found fame. After Rawhide ended, Eastwood made a handful of TV shows and movies, until his big break came along. Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars and it’s follow ups made Eastwood into an icon. He went on to play numerous tough guy parts, invariably a cowboy or cop, and was very successful.
He made his directorial debut early on, often combining his newfound talent with his acting. He met with mild success until his 1992 western Unforgiven. It was hailed as one of the best westerns of all times, and gained Eastwood alot of credibility. »

Warner Bros. Pictures will be opening their eyes in delight as The Blind Side not only continues to perform well beyond expectations, but managed to topple box office gorilla The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
Weekend box office estimates have The Blind Side with Sandra Bullock pulling in $20.4 million from Friday through Sunday for a domestic gross of approximately $130 million and counting. New Moon came in second with $15.7 million which might be disappointing until you look at the worldwide gross which has passed $570 million which is hardly worth Summit barking about.
A trio of newcomers had a rough time keeping pace in the typically sluggish weekend after Thanksgiving. Brothers with stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman took third place with $9.7 million, Armored mustered $6.6 million and Everybody's Fine with Robert DeNiro wasn't so fine with $4 million.
Not in the top 10 but worth mentioning is the strong performance of Jason Reitman »

London, Dec 5 (Ians) Oscar winning actor Morgan Freeman, who will soon be seen playing former South African leader Nelson Mandela on the big screen, insists that he has been preparing for this role for years.
Freeman, who first met Mandela in the early 1990s, said: “He told me he wanted me to play him in a movie someday. For that I asked him to give me personal access so that I could understand his body language. He readily agreed,” starpulse.com quoted Freeman as saying.
“So anytime we were anywhere in proximity after that we would meet. I have always been preparing for this role even before I stepped in front of the camera as him,” he said.
Freeman would be donning this role in Clint Eastwood’s. »

One of things that is marvelous about Invictus is Morgan Freeman. To those who know him and love him will count this, I feel confident in saying, as one of his best performances. »

I'll be spending most of the weekend at the movies (I hope). Posting may be light unless I am unusually speedy in the digestion of these big movie meals... which would be a first. I wish there were four of me every December (one to enjoy the holidays, one to earn money, one to see all the movies I missed and all the movies Hollywood withheld simultaneously and one to write about all of that.) Herewith some links to keep you buzzy.

Matt Damon's had a very busy 2009 and 2010 isn't looking like it's going to be any slower for the popular Oscar-winner. Damon earned positive reviews for his starring role in the comedy The Informant! and he's starring as the captain of a South African rugby team in Clint Eastwood's Invictus, set to hit theaters on December 11th. Damon joined Eastwood and his co-star Morgan Freeman on the red carpet for the La premiere of Warner Bros Pictures' Invictus (I'll have my full red carpet interview up soon) and of course the topic of Bourne #4 came up. With Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass just announcing he's bowing out of the fourth Bourne film, it's been speculated that his departure will signal the departure of Damon from the franchise as well.
However, Damon told us he thinks Bourne #4 will still happen someday. "We just don't have a script »

The National Board of Review have announced their winners. Their ceremony will be held on.
Film: Up In The Air
Director: Clint Eastwood, Invictus
Actor (tie): Morgan Freeman, Invictus and George Clooney, Up In The Air
This is Clooney's 3rd personal Nbr prize in 7 years. The situation with Clint Eastwood is yet more extreme. This is Clint's 4th personal Nbr prize in 10 years. Every film he's made since 2003 has found a home in their top ten list -- all seven of them, even Flags of Our Fathers -- and in two of those year's his films hogged 20% of their top ten list. In addition to Clint's 4 prizes, 2 of his films have won their Best Picture prize. Actress: Carey Mulligan, An Education
Supporting Actor: Woody Harrelson, The Messenger
Is this an awards season meme we didn't see coming ("time to honor Woody!") or a minor wave that will subside before Oscars hit shore? »

Morgan Freeman has treated himself to an early Christmas present - his own private plane.
The actor, who endured a stint in the U.S. Air Force as a young adult, began learning to fly in 2002 and quickly went on to earn his pilot's licence.
Freeman, now an expert in the skies, recently bought his first jet - and he's christening the aircraft by taking it on a journey around the world.
He explains, "I'm flying from here (U.S.) to South Africa. Then, since we've got some business down there, we're going to Botswana... then we're going to go to Kenya, northern Kenya, because we've been invited to visit a local tribe.
"The reason we're doing all this is because I've got my own plane. Brand new. Me and my co-pilot (will be flying it)."
And Freeman brags his plane is fully fitted with such up-to-date equipment his jet would likely put other celebrity pilots and their planes to shame.
He adds, "I started flying in '02. I've got everything that the law requires (fitted to my plane), and then some."
Freeman joins a select high-flying club - Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Angelina Jolie, Hilary Swank and supermodel Gisele Bundchen are all keen pilots. »

Nope, it's not a prosthetic. Morgan Freeman let his fingers breathe in what looked like a compression glove at the Thursday night premiere of his new movie 'Invictus,' in which he plays Nelson Mandela. Freeman suffered nerve damage to his arm during a 2008 car accident. He was driving when the car containing him and suspected mistress Demaris Meyer flipped over several times, seriously injuring them both. Four days later he announced his divorce from wife Myrna. Freeman said in January his hand was paralyzed, but it might be getting better as his gloves keep getting smaller. Below you can watch his recovery in reverse chronological order. MSN Canada described his hand as "limp and swaddled in a tan glove" when he was promoting his documentary 'Prom Night In Mississippi' last month. At last night's Beverly Hills premiere of Invictus, Clint Eastwood's Oscar contender staring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman, things still somehow became about Brangelina. Gosh, what a shocker, huh? Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie showed up with their cutie son Maddox. Not wanting to totally upstage, they didn't do the red carpet, so the gorgeous fam just went inside to support their pals. Now, we love us some glitzy Brange as much as the next star-struck folk, but we adore Damon more, sorry. He's a totally down-to-earth sweetheart, but somehow he gets overlooked by the gossip-craving public. Why the hell is that? Humpy Matt told us why he's glad he's not Brad or Bff... »

With the end of the year approaching and new media being released for films next year, I find myself really looking forward to 2010. One of the movies that I’m looking forward to is Invictus which stars Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman and is directed by Clint Eastwood.
Invictus tells the story of how the country was united through sport, in this case Rugby. Damon plays Francois Pienaar, the South African captain tasked with convincing his white team mates that times need to change. It’s out in the UK 5th February 2010. You can see the trailer here.
Below we have some new images (click them below to enlarge) that Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Spyglass Entertainment have released plus a clip from the movie which was released on Yahoo earlier today. You can head over to Yahoo to view it in HD.

"Up in the Air" just hit theaters today, but already the O-word is being bandied about.
The movie won best picture honors from the National Board of Review Thursday. The Nbr is usually among the first groups to announce its award winners in the run-up to the Oscars.
The last two Nbr winners -- "No Country for Old Men" and "Slumdog Millionaire" -- have gone on to win best picture at the Academy Awards (though its record as an Oscar predictor prior to that is far less reliable).
Directed by Jason Reitman, "Up in the Air" stars George Clooney as a perpetually traveling contractor who fires people for a living. "Up in the Air" also won best supporting actress for "Twilight: New Moon" co-star Anna Kendrick and best adapted screenplay.
The board also chose Clooney as best actor -- an honor he shares with "Invictus" star Morgan Freeman.

Reviews from Telluride and Toronto may have been mixed, but Jason Reitman's Up in the Air got a bit of a boost yesterday when the National Board of Review named it Best Film of 2009 (as noted in the current lists and awards tracker). To drive the point home, the Nbr gave it Best Supporting Actress (Anna Kendrick), Best Adapted Screenplay (Reitman and Sheldon Turner) and let George Clooney share the Best Actor award with Morgan Freeman, whose Nelson Mandela in Invictus is, according to none other than New York Times editor Bill Keller, "uncanny - less an impersonation than an incarnation." So for the next couple of days anyway, Up in the Air is a frontrunner in the awards race this season, with a clear shot at the Big One even, and it's among the films opening in theaters today. »

Clooney shared the actor award with Morgan Freeman, who appears as South African leader Nelson Mandela in Clint Eastwood's Invictus. Eastwood took the best director trophy. Morgan Freeman insists he's been preparing to portray former South African leader Nelson Mandela on the big screen for years - after the great man himself told the actor he should be the one to play him in a movie.
The Driving Miss Daisy star has won acclaim for playing Mandela in Clint Eastwood's new movie Invictus and he admits he came to the role very well prepared.
Freeman, who first met Mandela in the early 1990s, tells Parade magazine, "He told me he wanted me to play him in a movie someday (and) I said, 'Then I need access to you, and I need to be able to hold your hand.' He said, 'We'll do that.'
"So anytime we were anywhere in proximity after that, we'd schmooze. I've always been preparing for the time I stepped in front of the camera as him. The luckiest part of my entire existence is finding this script and sending it to Clint, and then he said, 'Yes.'" »

What a life at eight years old!
Maddox Jolie-Pitt made his red carpet debut with parents Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Thursday night in Beverly Hills.
The family hit the premiere of Warner Bros.' "Invictus," which stars Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman and was directed by Clint Eastwood (who helmed Jolie's recent drama, "Changeling").
Maddox is a bit young for the drama though -- it's rated PG-13 for "strong language."

There seems to be a hung jury in the case of Invictus. On paper, of course, this is Oscar bait: Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon, the kind of powerful human story that Hollywood likes grab onto to smooth out the rough edges and polish it neatly into a ready-made formula. But early reviews were overly kind (nor overly critical), but the film just took home the National Board of Review awards for Best Director and Best Actor, and as the name of the group suggests, there are a few critics in the Nbr.
So where do we stand now? Dunno. But Trailer Addict has nine new clips from the film, which opens a week from today. Freeman plays Nelson Mandela, which is a long overdue development, if you ask me. Damon is South African rugby player Francois Pienaar, who helps lead his team in the 1995 World Cup as a sign »

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie weren't the only special guests at last night's Invictus premiere in La - they brought their oldest son Maddox to pose and mingle on the red carpet. The eight-year-old was decked out in a fedora just like his dad often wears, though lately Brad's all about the beanie which he wore for date night with Angelina earlier in the week. The movie's stars Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman, as well as director Clint Eastwood, were all fresh off Wednesday night's NYC screening. Between publicity stops with Luciana on his arm always, Matt's still busy filming The Adjustment Bureau in NYC. Invictus is getting Oscar buzz already which hopefully means a lot more of these handsome faces during award season. View 30 Photos › To see more from the premiere just read more. View 30 Photos › »
