We Have To 'Go Intergalactic' After '2012,' John Cusack Says

28 minutes ago | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

From MTV.Com: The first time we see John Cusack in "2012," he says he's about to be killed: The guy's late to pick up his kids for a camping trip and his ex-wife is not the forgiving type. About 30 minutes later — and really, for the next two hours — that hyperbolic sentiment becomes frighteningly real when Los Angeles (and then the rest of the planet) disintegrates into a fiery, tsunami-swept wasteland.

Director Roland Emmerich has made disaster movies aplenty ("Independence Day," "The Day After Tomorrow") but Cusack argued in a recent MTV News interview that "2012" is no disastrous flick.

Interview: John Cusack On 2012 And The Magic Of Roland Emmerich

2 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

John Cusack has been a certain kind of hero for decades now-- every guy wants the guts to serenade his crush like Lloyd Dobler in Say Anything, or the limitless pop culture knowledge of Rob Gordon in High Fidelity. But only in 2012 is he really taking charge as a hero, helping his ex-wife and their children escape the mayhem and destruction that occurs when, well, the world begins to end. In a roundtable interview last week, Cusack said it was fun to have the chance to play the everyman turned hero, but maybe even more fun to drink near-beers with Woody Harrelson and marvel at how director Roland Emmerich pulled off the whole spectacle. Read below for our conversation with him. 2012 opens this Friday. Did you get sick of acting in front of all the green screen in this movie? The green screen is not as bad as it looks »

“2012” star John Cusack proud to be Chicago Irish (IrishCentral)

3 hours ago | IrishCentral | See recent IrishCentral news »

Actor John Cusack says he’s proud of his Irish roots. Really. The Irish Independent asked the Illinois native about his background, and he replied that he always “felt” Irish. How so? "Just Irish relatives and Irish s*** in Chicago. We knew all the poets and all the stuff. There's a big Irish community there,” he replied. One might have expected a more nuanced answer from an actor who prides himself on making career choices based on what he wants as opposed to following the money trail! Actually, Cusack was granting interviews to promote his big new studio release “2012” which opens this weekend, and big things – i.e., the sound of ka-ching at the cash registers – are expected for this film, so we could be reading plenty more about Cusack in the days to come. He’s been a frequent visitor to Ireland, and was there in the summer with »

Before the World Ends, Matt Heads to Wyoming for 2012 and Interviews the Cast

4 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Last month, I was lucky enough to be invited to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to cover the press junket for Roland Emmerich’s upcoming disaster flick 2012, which opens this Friday.  Some people reading this may be thinking, “Lucky to go to Wyoming? Har har!”  These people (in addition to laughing oddly) have never been to Jackson Hole, Wyoming because it is an absolutely gorgeous landscape.  There are forests, grassland, and mountains all grouped together and it provides a feeling of complete tranquility to the area.  It’s isolated but when you stop to think about how most of us are bombarded on a daily basis by technology and communications that isolation turns into an oasis.

I also got to see Roland Emmerich destroy the world real good and then talk about it with Emmerich and stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.  Hit the jump for what they had to »

New '2012' movie is disgraceful, anti-Catholic attack (IrishCentral)

6 hours ago | IrishCentral | See recent IrishCentral news »

Video / Watch the ‘2012’ trailer / Click here "2012," the new blockbuster movie from director Roland Emmerich about the end of the world, is clearly anti-Catholic. It stars Irish-American actor John Cusack, who is obviously along for the payday. Now, I'm no Bill O'Donohue, the blowhard head of the Catholic League who sees blasphemy in every mention of his religion not stamped and approved by the Vatican — and most of the time Bill and I disagree strongly. But "2012" is something else. Consider the trailer I just watched. As the Website Creative Minority Report noticed: At the 20 second mark: The arms of the Jesus the Redeemer statue in Rio De Janeiro fall off and the statue topples. 34 seconds: 50,000 people with candles standing in St. Peter's Square look up at the Pope, who's looking down at them. 36 seconds: Lots of people all making the sign of the Cross. Then the fireballs begin to drop. 50 seconds: There's an image of St. »

'Say Anything' And John Cusack: 'We've Now Reached The Completely Surreal'

6 hours ago | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Last week, a pack of Lloyd Dobler look-alikes descended on Times Square in New York City to celebrate the 20th anniversary (and 20th anniversary DVD release) of director Cameron Crowe's '80s classic, "Say Anything...," one of "2012" star John Cusack's early iconic roles. So last week, when MTV's Josh Horowitz sat down with Cusack for the "2012" press junket -- it's out on Friday -- he brought along a little souvenir for the star to play with.

Just listen to the response, look at how he recoils at the sight of Josh's mock-boombox. For anyone who missed the reference: Cusack holds a boombox blasting Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" up over his head in one of the movie's most memorable moments. Clearly, he's spent the last 20 years having that fateful moment replayed for him in interviews. You can hardly blame the guy for shrinking back.

Cusack is a good sport though, »

2012 sparks interest in Mayan calendar - but is it wrong?

10 hours ago | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

It’s not often that the Mayan calendar muscles into conversation here at Boxwish (and by not often, we mean never). However, that might not be the case for much longer with new disaster epic, 2012 looming on the horizon (it hits cinemas this Friday). The action blockbuster starring John Cusack looks at the Mayan calendar’s prediction that the world will end on this date and as such director Emmerich (who loves trashing humanity with past efforts including Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow) has really gone to town, laying siege to a number of international landmarks, with the Himalayas wiped out by a tsunami and L.A. saying sayonara thanks to a colossal earthquake (though an Islamic place of worship avoids onscreen destruction, see Related Content, right). But is this destruction actually true to the prediction? Some experts say a big fat no. »

2012 Premiere - Interviews with the Cast and Director

10 hours ago | movies.about.com | See recent movies.about.com news »

John Cusack stars as a divorced novelist who finds out the world is going to end and tries to save his family from a series of disasters in the action epic 2012 from writer/director Roland Emmerich. Emmerich's no stranger to telling big stories having helmed Stargate, Independence Day, and The Day After Tomorrow, but according to the veteran action director, this is likely to be his last huge production for a while. On the special 'black' carpet in downtown La, Emmerich told me he's ready to try something smaller. "I will not up the bar in my next movie," said Emmerich. "No, I'll just do a small, little movie, very different."

Check out these interviews from the disaster-free La premiere of Columbia Pictures' 2012:

Afm 2009 Promo Posters Part 1 + Steve Watches Afm’s Hot Tub Time Machine Red Band Trailer and Catches a 2nd MacHete Poster Featuring Lindsay Lohan as a Naughty Nun

16 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Earlier today, I was at the American Film Market in Santa Monica. If you’re not familiar with Afm, it’s the place where film buyers from around the world come once a year to buy movies and also pre-buy films in development. Simply put, this is where a lot of money changes hands in the film industry and it’s where many decisions about what you and I get to see are made. In an effort to try and raise a film’s profile or attract film buyers, many of the studios print up promo art for movies in development or nearing completion. Almost none of the artwork will ever see the light of day outside of Afm, but if you’re a film junkie like me, then getting to see all this stuff is Christmas. After the jump you can take a look at the first grouping of »

Interview: Amanda Peet On 2012 And Her John Cusack Love

10 November 2009 10:55 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Amanda Peet is really dying to do a romantic comedy with John Cusack. She's made three movies with him, starting with 2003's Identity and now 2012, but they always seem to be trying to avoid getting killed, whether it's from a mysterious murderer or the world completely falling apart. In 2012, Peet and Cusack play a divorced couple who wind up on the run together when the world, quite, literally, begins to end. Along with her new husband (Tom McCarthy) and their two kids, Peet and Cusack go from California to the Himalayas to try to survive, and also rekindle a little bit of romance in the process. Maybe this is all a prequel for their inevitable romantic comedy after all. Read below for our roundtable interview with Peet, talking about being an actor from a family of doctors, whether or not she believes in the 2012 prophecies, and how, sometimes, the director »

2012 Offends Catholics, Dimwits, Ex-Cons

10 November 2009 9:32 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

The huge new disaster movie 2012 opens this Friday. Everyone but HuffPost blogger John Cusack drowns, but not before a statue of Jesus crumbles, a crack opens in the Sistine Chapel roof -- right between the fingers of God and Adam -- and St. Peter's Basilica falls over on a lot of Italians. These images have offended the usual people in the I'm Offended Industry, but not for the reason you'd think. The offense takers are offended because 2012 forgot to offend any Muslims. Here's Greg Gutfeld, who used to be a HuffPost blogger and now has a public access TV show: But there was one thing missing among He means "amid." the carnage: an Islamic target... In an interview, the director (Roland Emmerich) said he hoped to destroy the Kaaba, an Islamic holy site, but his fellow screenwriter Harald Kloser persuaded him not to. Here's... »

Five Favorite Films with Roland Emmerich

We're fairly certain Roland Emmerich's movie holds the record for combined body count. Such a feat is a result of career built around movies like Independence Day, Godzilla, and The Day After Tomorrow, bombastic, crowd-pleasing disaster movies that frequently leaves the planet in runs. His latest effort is 2012, opening. this Friday and starring John Cusack, Amanda Peet, and Chjwetel Ejiofor as survivors in a world tearing apart the seams and submerging in water. DVD Release Date: Nov. 3 Director/Writer: Cameron Crowe Cinematographer: László Kovács Starring: John Cusack, Ione Skye, John Mahoney Studio/Run Time: Twentieth Century Fox, 100 mins. To know this movie is to love it Cameron Crowe’s Say Anything hearkens to that bygone age of teen movies when depictions of first love didn’t need a veneer of detached self-awareness. Underachiever and all-around nice guy Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) genuinely loves the brainy and beautiful Diane Court (Ione Skye). And, though Diane’s academic ambitions and overprotective father (John Mahoney) threaten to derail the budding romance, Lloyd doggedly pursues his paramour, pitting his pluck... »

Total Recall: John Cusack's Best Movies

10 November 2009 5:40 AM, PST | Rotten Tomatoes | See recent Rotten Tomatoes news »

For much of the 1980s, John Cusack was one of Hollywood's most dependable go-to guys for affable leads in teen romantic comedies -- typecasting that led to some great films (Better Off Dead, Say Anything...) as well as some rather forgettable efforts (Hot Pursuit, One Crazy Summer). But beneath that guy-next-door exterior lurked the heart of a thespian, and over the last 20 years, Cusack has assembled one of the more eclectic filmographies in the biz, starring in action flicks (Con Air), quirky dramas (Being John Malkovich), and even dabbling in horror (1408). With his starring turn in Roland Emmerich's... »
