Biography for
Mickey Smith (Character)
from "Doctor Who" (2005)

Mickey Smith is the sometimes a bit nervous boyfriend of The Doctors loyal follower, Rose Tyler. His father died when he was young and his mother couldn't cope, so he was raised by his grandmother. His grandmother later slipped on the hall carpet and died, which meant that Rose basically was his family.

As the series continues, Mickey's and Rose's relationship is strained by Rose's love and devotion for The Doctor. Rose always chooses to follow The Doctor and constantly leaves Mickey behind. In the second season Mickey therefore chooses to follow Rose and travel in the TARDIS. The groups journeys by chance takes them to a parallel Earth, where Mickey meets both his grandmother, who in this world is still alive, and his counterpart, Rickey Smith. Rickey dies in the fight to save that world from the following chaos when a scientist creates the destructive Cybermen rase. Mickey realises that he can help this Earth by taking Rickey's place in the Cybermen resistance. As Rose and The Doctor leaves him, it is understood that the rift between the universes can never be opened again. When they leave, they will never see him again.

But as Mickey continues his work of saving the world from the Cybermen, he and the rest of the resistance finds a way to use a crack in the rift between the universes. The downside is, so does the Cybermen. They invade Rose Tyler's Earth, as does a growing number of Daleks, another rase out to destroy mankind, that has hid in the rift. Mickey and a part of the resistance goes trough the rift and helps out with the fighting. But the only way to stop the invasion is by The Doctor making everything that has once passed trough the rift, go back there. Then the rift will close itself. That means that Mickey, the resistance - and Rose, all will be sucked in since they have at least once gone trough the rift. The only way they can save themselves, is by returning to the parallel Earth before the rift takes them. In the last episode of the second season, Mickey, Rose and Rose's parents are permanently stuck on the parallel Earth, never being able to see The Doctor or their home world again because the rift can never be opened. That would let all the Cybermen and daleks out.
