- National Geographic Television was chosen for its consistent innovation and committment to compelling, quality family programming. A highly visible and respected force in nonfiction entertainment, in their 35-year history they have developed a body of work that consists of nearly 150 hours of specials, more than 700 hours of premiering programs on "National Geographic Explorer" (1985), nearly 20 hours of childrens' programming and more than 70 hours of original educational films. National Geographic Television continues to inform and entertain with a unique editorial voice and stunning visuals that have brought complex environmental issues, little-known cultures and explosive adventure to generations of viewers.

- TLC was selected for its ongoing television series, "Great Books", which highlights the relevence of outstanding literature in today's society, and encourages literacy and creative thinking. The series was the idea of John S. Hendricks, founder, chairman and CEO of Discovery Communications, Inc., the parent company of TLC. An advisory panel assembled the The Center for the Book at the Library of Congress assists in selecting titles for the production. The series currently includes 25 titles, each accompanied by teacher's guide book and curriculum kit. TLC's overall mission is to offer people of all ages an enjoyable entertaining way to learn and satisfy their natural curiosity.
